Search and organize all your desktop and cloud documents in one place with FYI. FYI Desktop automatically discovers the documents on your computer and lets you find them from anywhere.
Hi Product Hunt, Hiten here đ¤. We launched FYI two months ago, and Iâm super excited to share our new desktop app with you today.
Our goal is to solve your biggest problem with documents: Finding them.
Documents donât just live in the cloud, theyâre on your computer too. Thatâs why weâre launching FYI Desktop, one of the most requested features. Once you install FYI Desktop, youâll be able to search and organize all your desktop documents alongside your cloud documents, all from one place!
You can start using FYI Desktop on your Mac or Windows computer today and your local files will be added to FYI.
Weâre super eager to solve the problem of finding your documents no matter where they are, in the best way possible. To do that, we need your opinion.
Please take a look at FYI Desktop and tell us what you think. You can use our in-app Drift chat, @usefyi on Twitter or email me at hiten@usefyi.com or @hnshah on Twitter.
@usefyi@hnshah Nice product Hiten and Marie. Could really use an instant search functionality though to be able to tweak queries as you type. Any plans on adding that?
â¤ď¸Marie here. The larger a company is, the more likely that important documents are sitting on peopleâs computers. And the more likely they are to get lost. I personally experienced this when I worked in corporate America at companies with 10s & 100s of thousands of employees.
Meanwhile, there are more document apps than ever. Theyâre really easy to use⌠until youâre trying to find documents đ .
No matter what size company weâre working at, most of us are living in a document mess. We donât remember what folder or app our documents are in. Who made them. Even titles and keywords are a distant memory. We just canât find our documents.
We built FYI to solve this painful problem. Letting people search for documents across their apps using FYI was a huge improvement, but you told us we had to do more. Thatâs why weâre launching FYI Desktop on Product Hunt today. This is one of the top 3 most requested features and weâre excited to release it.
Our goal with FYI is to be the best way to find your documents, no matter where they are. Weâll always have a free plan for anyone to use. Weâre eager to hear what you think and what we should do next.
Tell us what you want đť.
can you not search by recent activity for google drive docs that you are actually apart of not just the entire organization's recent activity? Makes it useless otherwise IMO
This is a great idea! Although, I'm curious about the security of the documents on fyi. How much information of the docs can you (fyi) read, parse and organize? Can you elaborate a little bit more on how the document owner can keep their information protected?
Congrats once again guys. Been using and loving FYI so far, can't wait to give this a try! It'll be awesome if you guys consider adding support for videos although I know they aren't documents but with apps like Loom becoming so popular and video marketing becoming so important, finding videos is also a pain. In fact, I've tried searching for videos on FYI only to realise they aren't documents.
I don't know how I lived without FYI. I don't want to think about what life would be like without it. FYI seems to launch a magical elf who lives inside my computer and knows exactly where all the files are. It saves me so much time from wandering through folders and cloud drives. If you don't have it, get it.
It gives me a ton of warnings when trying to install the Windows version and then when I try to install it, it says I don't have permissions to access. So I couldn't install and gave up. Just FYI :p
I NEVER go looking for a document in Google Drive or Dropbox anymore...which feels amazing.
I open a new tab (which is now set to FYI) - and 9 times out of 10, the document i'm looking for is right there in my activity feed. (because either I viewed it in the last 7 days, or one of my coworkers shared it with me). Saves me a lot of time hunting for documents.
@thebradoliver You can download the desktop app and remove the Chrome app. To add the desktop app from Chrome, just click on the ... on the left sidebar by Activity Feed and select "Manage Apps". Youâll see a Mac or Windows icon on both of those screens, click to download.
@timehubnz Not missing anything. Windows take a number of installs before the app gets past Windows Defender. Would you mind emailing me what you are seeing? hiten@usefyi.com
@johndesk27 thanks JW! There are two ways to download desktop, in onboarding you can do it when you are adding apps to FYI, or if youâre in the Chrome extension go to manage apps by clicking the ... on the left sidebar by Activity Feed. Youâll see a Mac or Windows icon on both of those screens.
@handythinks Thanks Chris! Can't wait to hear your thoughts, you've been so incredibly helpful with your feedback. Keep it coming so we can make FYI better for you :)
