While have an admin section for your webapp is critical, it often lags in your dev backlog… Sounds familiar? Then check out Forest, a customizable plug-and-play admin interface! You can plug Forest to your rails or Node.js webapp. It will gather your data in one place. Super helpful for devs who want to focus on their product and who don’t have much time to spend on their admin interface.

@dessaigne Thank you! We are very excited to introduce Forest to you hunters. Forest is a universal admin interface designed to manage your application data and all your specific business operations. We created Forest to make developer’s lives easier. Configuration is super easy. Install the Forest agent in your application (Ruby on rails and node.js for now, more coming soon). It instantly analyzes your data models and automatically sets up your admin interface. You can extend the REST API and use the WYSIWYG interface to handle complex scenarios without any restrictions and also connect your other services - like Intercom, Stripe, Mixpanel, Google Analytics, Mailchimp, etc. - to gather all your intelligence in one place. We hope you like it! Tell us what you think of the app and I will be happy to reply to any comments and questions :)
Sandro Munda
@asatwork Awesome Alexandre! The installation takes less than 1 min ;) Thanks!!
Sajeev Aravindan
@seyz_ @dessaigne Do you have plans to support Google App Engine?
Sandro Munda
@sajeev @dessaigne We have not looked too much into Google App Engine at the moment, but the more people are interested the faster the support will come 🙂
Marc St Raymond
This looks cool! I've used Adminium (https://www.producthunt.com/tech...) before and really liked it...especially b/c it was a simple Heroku add-on that was a breeze to use with my heroku apps. @seyz_ can you comment on the where Forest excels over Adminium? And whether or not you'd have plans to make it a heroku add-on for users like me?
Sandro Munda
@msaint Forest focuses on providing an admin interface that’s sleek, intuitive and empowering your non-technical users, which is where the comparison stops IMO. We plug into your existing application, allowing you to have business-specific logic available such as comment moderation, vouchers management and so on; whereas Adminium only taps into your database, basically doing the same stuff PHPMyAdmin did in its time for MySQL. An Heroku add-on definitely is in our roadmap, no timeframe regarding its availability has been set though 🙂

Admin Interface as a Service? Interesting. Waiting for meteor support! :)
Sandro Munda
@benjam1n Exactly, AIaaS or AaaS even (our personal preference)! Meteor just bumped one spot on the « frameworks to support » list. Alpha version is currently being tested. We will send you an email as soon as the rough edges are dealt with.
Spencer Schoeben
Great product. Confusing pricing.
Sandro Munda
@netspencer Tell us what you find confusing about our pricing, so we can make it clearer. BTW, if you signup now, you have 2 months free to test Forest :)
Christian Montoya
This looks super helpful. Love how 3rd party services can also be integrated. One question about the hacker plan, it says "you get to try our product on your local environment", what does "local environment" mean?
Sandro Munda
@decktonic Thanks for the kind words Christian! What we mean by local environment is basically your development environment (localhost), by opposition with your production environment where your real data lies. Happy to jump on a call if you need further assistance
Chris Kirk
Looks awesome! We were excited to try it out, but having some issues getting it setup and can't find a support link anywhere. Is there an email we can reach you at?
Sandro Munda
@cbkirk We'll definitively add a footer with social links and support email on our website :) In the meantime, here's the support email address: support@forestadmin.com ! Thank you!
Luke Johnson
Looks great, will we see a Laravel friendly Forest anytime soon?
Sandro Munda
@jaewunz Hey Luke! Yeah, we are currently working on PHP support :)
Jean-Marie
@seyz_ @jaewunz Sandro, any idea on when? (this summer, later?)
Sandro Munda
@brusselsregular @jaewunz We’ve got someone starting on Monday to work through the Symfony2 implementation, we’re expecting to have something stable early July. Depending on how much tweaking that implementation requires to be adapted to Laravel, it should follow suit rather quickly 🙂
Simon Bromberg
Background reminds me of Firewatch (http://www.firewatchgame.com/)
Alex Topiler
Looks neat. Although I had trouble getting the demo to work on my mobile device. Is the full interface mobile friendly? We do a lot of "admin" work on the go here at Tailwind so that would be crucial. Also, do you integrate with Chargify? Agree with others that the pricing seems a bit high, but if it's truly as plug and play as it seems, I could definitely make a case to pay for it -once you support Laravel 😉
Sandro Munda
@topilarity You’re right, the interface is not mobile-ready as we’ve focused our efforts on the desktop experience for now. A mobile app is definitely in our roadmap, but as we are very careful about delivering a seamless and intuitive experience we want to address it as a separate codebase later on rather than having the whole website responsive. As far as Payments providers go, we only support Stripe for the moment but Chargify is in our list of third party integrations. Laravel support is also coming soon, we’re seeing great interest for it so it’s been bumped to the top of that list 😉 We’re going as quickly as we can, thanks for the feedback! 😊
Rod Austin
Very cool! Works with any stack? Why would we opt for this over free alternatives?
Sandro Munda
@webtech Hey Rod, we are working hard to support as many stacks as possible but have full stable support at the moment only for Rails and ExpressJS with Mongoose, Sequelize and Loopback. What stack in particular are you interested in? Make sure to register your interest on our homepage so we know what to prioritize 😊 We think that, by devoting our time solely on this issue, we can deliver more value than our free counterparts. Our focus on a great UI/UX, third-party integrations (Stripe, Intercom, etc.), WYSIWYG interface, enterprise support, plus the time freed up for your devs will make those 💸 worth it.
Rod Austin
@seyz_ My projects vary between Node, Meteor, Laravel and Python/Django, to name a few. Best of luck with the project!
Able Joseph
We had a chance to test drive Forest and we simply love it's UI. Highly recommended!
Sandro Munda
@ablejoseph Awesome to see you here Able, and thanks for your comment. Coming from you guys and knowing your pixel perfectionism, it means a lot! 👌
Roman Khafizianov
Hi guys! Email form doesn't work at pricing page: http://www.forestadmin.com/prici...
Sandro Munda
@requilence Wow, good eye Roman! 🕵 Thanks for pointing that out, we’re working on resolving asap 👍
Sandro Munda
@requilence Fixed :) Thanks for report!
James Brooks
It's a shame that this isn't a dashboard theme, I'd love to use it in Cachet https://cachethq.io.
Sandro Munda
@jbrooksuk If you love our UI, that's still a win for us 😉
Joe Benson
Exciting potential. May want to review admin interface in iOS Chrome though. "Public beta" alert takes up the entire screen - can't demo it.
Sandro Munda
@joe_legnd Hey Joe, sorry about that. Forest is definitely not ready to shine on mobiles I’m afraid, but a fully-fledged mobile app is in the pipeline! We can only do so many things at once 🙂
Joe Benson
@seyz_ Ah, makes sense now. Took a closer look (on desktop). Very cool idea and it looks great. Look forward to trying the PHP implementation.
Joost Moerenburg
great idea, top bad it is in Ruby. Hard to find Ruby devs here in Holland.
Sandro Munda
@j00st Hey Joost! We are supporting Rails and Express frameworks right now. We are currently wording on a Symfony support (and other PHP frameworks). What's your frameworks? :)
Sandro Munda
@j00st Noted. It's been bumped to the top of our roadmap
J. Alexander Curtis
@seyz_ Laravel is built on top of Symphony, so if you already have a symphony version in the process then it should be pretty straightforward.
Sandro Munda
@_jacurtis Thanks for letting us know. We actually haven't had much time to investigate Laravel. As you say, it will be ready a short while after symfony support.
maxime berthelot
Forest is a really useful product ! We're having a look right now for Respond, a Buffer product ! Good job Team Forest ;)
Sandro Munda
@maxberthelot Thanks Max for the kind words! We’re eager to have Buffer on our testimonials page
Martin Saint-Macary
We've been lucky to be amongst the first testers at Vyte and Sandro has been really helpful. Forest has the potential to become the "no-brainer" admin interface for start-ups.
Sandro Munda
@saintmac Thanks for the kind words Martin! Happy to count Vyte among our most fervent testers, despite the bugs of the early days 😉
Raphaël De Giusti
At illustrio, we use the Forest admin interface daily (and in production). The setup is ultra fast and you get a basic interface that allows you to browse your data in a few minutes. You also get basic features for free that would take a huge amount of time to implement in a homemade back-office, like data filtering, grouping, pagination, graphs, stats... And I didn't even talk about the integrations. Being able to merge data from your database, stripe and intercom just by adding API keys is incredibly insightful. Then come the custom needs. Forest has really been thought around them. The learning curve is very smooth and they're improving their documentation every day. The project is young and I really think they're on the right track, as we already cannot spend a single day without it.
Sandro Munda
@raphdg Thanks Raph, we’re really happy to see Illustrio’s making the most out of Forest! You were among our star beta testers, and we’re so glad to help you go further on your journey to bring beauty to the illustration world :D
Tom Frew
Looks great! Any plans for this to work with Hapi.js?
Sandro Munda
@tomfrew Hey Tom, thanks for the kind words! We’re going as fast as we can regarding framework support, and will definitely be listening to what you guys are using. Make sure to register your interest on our homepage and to mention your framework there
Tom Frew
@seyz_ have done! (Might be worth adding another field on that form so if you select "Other" you can enter what your other framework is!)
Stefano Bernardi
This looks really awesome. Not entirely sure if a hosted solution is the best thing tho. Also, the pricing seems really high.
Sandro Munda
@stefanobernardi Thanks Stefano! I completely understand the problem of an "hosted solution". That's why we architectured Forest from the ground up with data privacy in mind. Data is transferred directly from your application to your browser while remaining invisible to our servers. We are confident that Forest will bring you enough value and free enough of your time to definitely be worth those prices :) BTW, it's completely free on your local machine :)
Stefano Bernardi
@seyz_ will try it for the next project for sure. Will see if the price is justifiable from day 1. Maybe a cheaper plan would make me go through much more confidently. I can definitely see the value as soon as you have a lot of data / ops / etc.
Sandro Munda
@stefanobernardi It's free on localhost, forever. As soon as you're ready to onboard your business team, you have 30 days trial. Plus 30 days for product hunters if you signup today :)
Sandro Munda
@james_osullivan @stefanobernardi If you sign up for a one-year plan and factor in the two-month free trial for our Hunters, you’ll end up getting Forest for $51,75. So, if you act fast, it’s already roughly the case 🤓
