SO COOL. Love that it also has a laser. Very interested to watch this space, but still a bit too pricey for me, especially since I haven't a great personal use case. Although, food is looking interesting. :)
My daughter and I played with FLUX at a Maker Fair a couple of months ago, and it is awesome. The studio app looks solid for kids.
I'm hoping they can integrate the built-in laser scanner with the printing process to identify failed prints, and maybe with some magic, restart failed prints that are salvageable.
i was backer 552, I have had the printer for a few months. I give it a B minus. The packaging and product are pretty. The unboxing experience is Apple-worthy.
The software is VERY beta. From my 2015 MBP i7 with 16GB of RAM... I'd say half of the things I send to be sliced choke at the 80% point.
The 1.75mm PLA filament is high quality with a smooth matte finish. So far, the 3rd party filaments I have tried don't work because most of them are not extruded as cleanly as this stuff.
Not having a heated base plate creates a bunch of adhesion issues, they recommend using a glue stick and always printing the raft layer. That mostly works but creates an unnecessary mess. I stuck a sheet of buildtak on the base plate and that (so far) has been the easiest and cleanest solution. If you use the glue stick, you have to time the glue application or it dries too fast while the printer is calibrating... which it does before every print.
They also have some heat shielding issues with the 3D printing module. Mine started melting at sub spec temperatures and ruined a bunch of prints, not to mention the module. The design problem is obvious when you look at the face that surrounds the print head. They spent all of this time creating a injection mold facing with vent holes that isn't strong enough to withstand 200degree + temperatures. It's an easy future fix.
After agreeing to replace the print module... yesterday makes it one full month I have been waiting for a new print module.
So... it's early in their development and growth as a company, let's see... but so far their customer service is slow to respond and act.
Also, what company sends you a product that literally melts into a non-functioning state in your home... and doesn't
1. address the problem immediately
2. send you free stuff to placate you while they get their act together
??????
So currently, I have a love / hate relationship with Flux3D.
