Hey everyone! Prefer to hear this comment in your language instead? I'll read it aloud for you here.

Group chat needed translations without copy/paste to Google Translate or downloading language packs. We built it. It's Seamless, Automatic and Free!

But we wanted to change how people talk by leveling up how they speak with Voice Translations.

Your voice, their language. And vice versa. Ask us for an early access code for voice clones.

Plus, there's tons of other goodies in there that you won't find in WhatsApp. Ask an AI bot that can search and summarize, and location ping.

Ever been confused by a phrase like "raining cats and dogs"?

FlaiChat automatically translates AND explains idioms so you always understand the full meaning!

Both @anaid and I feel the problem of multilingual chat on a daily basis among our extended families. That's why we teamed up and made this product that's close to our hearts. Both of us are techies with a deep interest in languages. That's why you'll notice that the translations are better than just surface level stuff you get from Google Translate or even DeepL.

We know that Product Hunt attracts a global audience. We'd love for all of you to try out tricky phrases, idioms and proverbs in your own languages in FlaiChat and share your results (English translations) with us. We'd love to get feedback from as many language speakers as possible.

Consider it a challenge to stump the AI. 🤔

@anaid @chetanahuja This is sweet. We have a running gag for "Kung walang tiyaga, walang nilaga" to which I reply "Sounds delicious". Can't wait to try out.

Chetan Ahuja

@anaid @georgefernandez I had to feed it to FlaiChat to see what this means. This is what I got in English translation:

Original: Kung walang tiyaga, walang nilaga

Translation: "If there is no perseverance, there is no stew" (Perseverance is necessary to achieve something worthwhile).

Was it right?

So true! Even when I translate, I often re-prompt to get the perfect tone. Do you think this could translate dialects into English as well?
And this is exactly what I need ! Congrats on the launch 🎉

Chetan Ahuja

@kay_arkainAll the team members (who total about 9 languages among us) have had a lot of fun testing obscure parts of our languages against the AI. And have had good amount of success. I'd love for you to test on your language and share some feedback.

This app provides great convenience for travel enthusiasts, and I’ve already added it to my must-have list for trips abroad, along with other essential items. Congrats on the launch!

Chetan Ahuja

@focusaur Thanks for the vote of confidence. We love to hear success stories like this.

HUGE FAN of FlaiChat. I use it at work to chat with my coworkers and my wife uses it to communicate with my parents (Spanish speaking). I feel so fortunate that an app like this exists where my loved ones can communicate seamlessly without any clunky google translator.

When my parents first used this app, my wife used the voice translation feature which uses her voice in different languages and they were shocked! They thought she suddenly became fluent in Spanish.

Chetan Ahuja

@waveyabe This is great to hear. I'd love for you to try out our new feature whereby we explain the real meaning of idiomatic or proverbial phrases that would normally make no sense if translated literally.

Evak Chan

I’m really excited about this product! How many languages does it support for translation? I’d love to use it during my upcoming trip to Japan.

Chetan Ahuja

@evakk Currently it's at about 40 target languages for text translation, including Japanese and English. The source language can be almost any language in the world (well as long as the AI had some traning material in the language). About 15 languages for voice-to-voice translations.

Congrats on the launch! I've been trying to use Google Translate abroad, even asking people I meet to record their message so I understand, but its been quite a pain. This could help, does it also work if someone is right in front of you, or both need the app?

Chetan Ahuja

@dtijs Yes you can simply ask them to record a message into your "self" chat in their language. The translation happens automatically to the language you prefer (it's settable on per-chat basis but defaults to your device language)

George

So I first discovered this app on Reddit a few months back while searching for WhatsApp alternatives. My Tagalog-speaking partner and myself were in need of chat just like this. The only way around translating individual messages was paying the hefty Telegram subscription. It was buggy, expensive, & translation quality was poor. We're both on the early access voice translations, which has been so sweet for hearing her voice speak my native language. We'd both be very willing to pay for more voice translations, should you ever introduce a subscription version.

Chetan Ahuja

@georgefernandez This is such a heartwarming story to hear. There are so many others our users have told us. It has brought couples and families together. There's so much emphasis on AI FOR B2B SAAS and whatnot, I love this use case that's bringing families together.

And as for payments, yes, at some point we'll start monetizing premium features but the basic translated chat is always going to be free.

Feliciana

This removes the worry of cross-language communication issues. What's even more surprising is that it's free to use, whereas most translation apps (if you want accurate translation) are paid.

Chetan Ahuja

@feliciana_liu Thank you for your kind words. And yes, we'll keep the text translations forever free. And our focus is on always being the best translations in the world for every language.
