I'm really enjoying the application. It solves a lot of the key problems I had before using the app. One thing I would change is the name. IMO it just doesn't fit the app. Also, when I tell people the name, they kind of smirk and laugh because it sounds kind of cheesy. I know that sounds harsh, and I don't want to belittle the hard work y'all have put into the application. I just want to give you my honest feedback as a user and feedback I get when sharing fitbod with others. Keep up the great work!

This is my favorite app

I've been an avid Freeletics user for more than two years but switched to Calisthenics a few weeks ago, mainly because I wanted some new challenges besides better workout times. The problem for me right now: I'm using Evernote to track my progress, which isn't the best solution obviously. I like the idea behind fitbod and the customization features. Definitely giving it a try for my next workouts! Good luck
allen
@einkoenig Thanks Jan! We also thought there must have been a better way than pen & paper or Evernote to track workouts. fitbod is able to use the info provided from past workouts to construct your next workout, and the more you use it the better the workouts get. Thanks for trying us out, hope you have great workouts!

@allenchen1217 hey allen, thanks. how do you tackle motivation so people keep using Fitbod for their workouts (and keep working out)?
allen
@einkoenig When you enter workouts into the app, fitbod will measure the impact they have on the muscles you've engaged. It will then allow you to see in real time as your muscles recover, and it will send you a notification if they've fully recovered and its time for the next workout - this cycle of tear and repair provides the foundation to continue to progress. Also, it make sure to constantly vary your workout (including muscle groups, exercises, sets, reps and weight) so you never get bored with the same workout

I enjoyed fitbod for the first week but, as usual, tracking workouts accurately is so time consuming I gave up. How about I take a picture of the machine or dumbell and use AI to figure out what it is? ;)
allen
@tymrtn That would be great! At some point technology would advance to a point where data entry for workouts is entirely automated (especially with wearables). However, technology isn't quite there yet, and the different exercises are so vast in number and complex that it's hard to see anything currently on the market doing this. What we've tried to do with fitbod is make the data entry as effortless and seamless as possible with a friendly UX and flow. And we've used the technology available in the phone to process the data to construct your next workout. We'll definitely keep this in mind though, hopefully we can continue to simplify the tracking workout process.

Nice! I saw so much progress at the gym when I had a PT to tell me what to do when I went in every day. For me, one of my biggest objections about going to the gym is that I walk around looking like a doofus and training inefficiently because I don't have a workout plan. I was trying to find the time to write my own but looks like this app will do just fine. Thanks for making!
allen
@andrewallsop Glad you found us! When we did our need finding, everyone from beginner to gym rat wanted an app that would tell them what to do in the gym, and to be content knowing that it is the best workout for them. Not only are pre-designed workout plans a hassle to find and follow, they are also static and don't adjust to the your schedule, needs or gym conditions. fitbod's real-time workout builder will construct the most efficient workout any time you're ready to work out. And there's also instructions if you ever need a reminder for how to perform the exercise

@allenchen1217 Sweet! This seems really perfect. Nice UI too. I'm excited to give it a go. Just in time for summer too.
allen
@andrewallsop Awesome! Hope you have great workouts, and yep definitely need to get ready for the summer time

How can I trust an app that says deadlifts are for hamstrings while doing 350 lbs?
allen
@pukhalski Hi Ilya, thanks for trying the app! While it is true that exercises may impact several different muscle groups all working together, we follow the muscle groups impacted as shown on bodybuilding.com. The other muscles impacted are also considered, in the Secondary Muscle Groups section.
llya Pukhalski
@allenchen1217 Thanks for the clarification! My 2 cents: I know and agree, that it's not so straight forward, but it depends on the type of training. I'm doing powerlifting with small amount of reps and heavy weights. In this case, the primary muscle group is lower back/back. In the case of bodybuilding-like approach with average weights and huge amount of reps, then obviously, yes, hamstrings. I've chosen strength trainings during the app setup, so it'd be nice to adjust the app for such edge cases. It won't be easy, and probably requires to hire a professional trainer (or different types) to your team. Right away, this app could be used by gym newbies only. So far I don't know any good fitness app (except of Notes, of course) that could help me with the issues on my level.
allen
@pukhalski Thank you for your thoughts. We'll definitely take this into consideration. You're right in that different people may have different fitness goals, and for different styles of lifting the movements may also be different (regular deadlift vs sumo deadlift for example). We do have professional trainers with different specialties that have put together the workout programs for us, and the program is tailored to the style each user might have (such as strength training, bodybuilding, or powerlifting) to accommodate the user's goals. You could change them by tapping on Customize in the Today tab.
Roy Su
Awesome! Design a glance. But I'm not familiar with the professional terms. Are there plans to add Action Director?
Mark Donne
Downloaded and used fitbod in the gym today. Great UI and super simple. My only comment is I didn't like having to "leave" the app to see how to to do the workout. Are you looking to embed the videos into the app?
allen
@mark_donne Yep, you nailed it. We're working with our personal trainers now to create native exercise instructions. Offline instructions is a top request from our beta group. Thanks for trying the app!
Mark Donne
@allenchen1217 Great! I thought that was going to be the next move. If you're looking for more beta testers let me know.
allen
@mark_donne Yep we do...just send a note to beta@fitbod.me. You can also request beta status in Settings in the app.
allen
@mark_donne Thanks letting us know. We'll speak with you through email to resolve this issue.

I'm a fitness enthusiasts and build workout programs for friends and families, and this looks like a useful tool. I love that I am able to visualize which muscles are being worked on. I'm going to check this out!
Austin
I've been using Fitbod for a few weeks now and really enjoy it. Are there plans to add any lightweight insights / visualizations?
Jesse Venticinque
@arbales Yes! We're currently working on an iteration of Log that will summarize your progress over time. One way to measure how "strong" you are is through a time-tested computation of the "Theoretical One Rep Max". The formula calculates the maximum amount of force that can be generated in one maximal contraction. With proper strength training, this should increase over time. We already use this formula (as well as a few others) to recommended sets, reps and weight - and we plan to create a visualization that illustrates your 1 Rep Max variance over time.
Wo King
I have used pretty much every gym app out there. It's always usability that is an issue. Quickly being able to input sets and reps. They always fail on that. Also, get this on Android and I will try it out. I have all the rest.
allen
@mywoisme Great design and proper usability has been a strong focus for us at fitbod. We think we've got a product thats very easy to navigate and enter workout data, though we're always trying to think of ways to make it even better. We've already kicked off our Android project, so hopefully we can get it out to you soon!

Bailey Jennings
This product seems solid! My only gripe so far is that the app assumes that I will be doing the same weight and reps for all of the recommended sets. Is there any plan on moving to towards recommend sets and a goal rep range? I don't want to inaccurately log that I did 5 sets of my heaviest weight!
allen
@bailey_jennings Yep recommending different reps and weight across sets is on our todo list. We haven't gotten there yet but stay tuned! In the meantime, if you'd like to enter your own sets you can simply tap on the +Add Additional Set button to enter the additional details
Bailey Jennings
@allenchen1217 Right on man! I'm a certified personal trainer and the biggest pain points I see day to day is people not knowing 'what to do next' or how to properly recover various muscle groups. Lots of potential here man.
allen
@bailey_jennings Thanks! Thats definitely the problem we're trying to solve. We want to provide users with a full well-rounded workout and make sure that there is a balance so that some muscles aren't overworked while others are underworked.
allen
Hi, I’m Allen, CEO and engineer at fitbod. I’ve been lifting for the better half of my life and I’ve realized that I was seriously overthinking the gym. By tracking muscle recovery state, exercise history and a few personal preferences, fitbod constructs a workout routine - in real-time - that most efficiently targets fresh muscle groups. Pair this approach with an authentic model of strength training best practices and the output is pretty killer workout. Give it spin, and ask us anything - we’ll be here all day
Girl Alex
@allenchen1217 Love this app, guys. Crossfit & Oly lifter, also a coach and a fitness writer for health IQ. Seriously loving playing with this so far. Can't wait to see what y'all do with it!!
allen
@themarshalien Thanks Alex! I also do Crossfit and Oly lifting, though with my schedule I'm not always able to get in to a Crossfit box. What's great is that I can track WODs by easily adding the exercises in the WOD. When on a later day I go to a gym with different equipment available, I'll still be able to receive a great recommended workout to target the right muscle groups, with fitbod adjusting to my body recovery state and changing gym conditions. Hope you continue to enjoy the app!
