Fika — A Kindle-like reading experience for the web

Featured

Fika is a tool which can help you extract the main content from the webpage and present it in a peaceful reading mode. Other than that, Fika retrieves the table of content and offers four delightful themes: Vanilla, Latte, Blabar, Licorice.

How does to compare to Clearly which also offers an automatically generated TOC and was released very recently?
Brad Chen
@anna_0x I don't know this product and will take a look. Thanks for sharing.

Any plans for making this available as an API/Library (free or paid doesn't matter)? I could really use something like this on a new Product we are working on and currently using Diffbot but they are just too expensive at the moment...
Brad Chen
As a heavy web reader, I finally got the kindle-like reading experience in Chrome. The four custom themes including night mode are beautiful. And the auto-generated table-of-content is super useful when reading long articles!
Sandro
@bradchen The table of content swallows some spaces in the chapter titles, e.g. "Ducksto the rescue" instead of "Ducks to the rescue".
Brad Chen
@________sandro_ Good catch. I just verified that this is a bug for non-break spaces (nbsp;). Will fix it in next version. Thank you.

https://en.glosbe.com/hu/en/fika Sorry its just hit me, when I saw it. It is kinda slang here, but still...
Brad Chen
@tg44 Oops...Fika is actually a Swedish word. It means a coffee break that’s more about socialising than drinking coffee. And something sweet is also welcome.
Niklas Pivic
@tg44 @bradchen Also, "blabar" is pidgin Swedish for "blåbär", which is an actual word in Swedish which means "blueberry". :)
Brad Chen
@tg44 @niklaspivic666 Exactly. You get it right. Thank you.
Gautham Santhosh
really love this. but could you please fix code part, its not working
Brad Chen
@gauthamzzz May I know which website you found it doesn't work? We will look into it. Thanks for bringing it out.
Brad Chen
@gauthamzzz I just tried a few articles on this site and Fika works well. For example, https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/wh...
Gautham Santhosh
@bradchen You have to look at something with code like this https://www.geeksforgeeks.org/qu...
Brad Chen
@gauthamzzz I see. Yes, we will optimize code display format in the upcoming version next week. Thank you for bringing it up.

How is is different from the in-built reader mode that browsers already provide?
Brad Chen
@abhib As I know, Chrome doesn't have a built-in reader mode on desktop. Safari and Edge do have a reader mode for certain websites but they don't support auto-generated table of content. Thanks a lot for your comment.
Akash Joshi
Have you guys looked at outline.com ? How does your product differ from theirs
Brad Chen
@akash_joshi Thanks for sharing this. I just checked outline.com. It seems more like an annotation tool for the web. Fika is an easy-to-use Chrome extension that provides kindle-like reading experience and auto-generated table of content.

What's problem with FIKA, I cannot find FIKA on Chrome Webstore?
Brad Chen
@nguyen_sinh_thanh I am sorry for the inconvenience. Fika was removed from Chrome Webstore due to a recent change of Google privacy policy. We made some minor modifications, added a privacy policy link and now it's back to the store! Thanks.
psnr
Love the idea, way to go guys!
Brad Chen
@psnr__ Thank you!
