@rrhoover I was waiting for this.... I have prepared a new technology wide-angle selfie - @panoLite )) for remind friends that there is a real world)))
@rrhoover Yeah, but with one big difference: pseudonymity. A key aspect of the OASIS was that people could be anyone they wanted to be in VR. Facebook is intent on you staying "you." How else will they monetize you?
Exciting experiment in VR by Facebook.
'Spaces represents the first .1% of Facebook’s vision for Social VR'. Eventually, Facebook wants to be a Google in the VR space...

Nice one, but those avatars look awful. 3D avatars aren't really a new thing - Sims and 1st person games in general, online chats like Second Life and IMVU all have them and they make these look really bad. Not sure if the lack of quality is caused by restraints of current VR gear?
Seems really cool. I like how natural it came across as an enhancement, it turned saying happy birthday into an event. I'm curious to see if and how this will be adopted outside of tech communities.
It's amazing now, in how many ways FB users can induce their depression, sadness, anxiety, low self-esteem, loneliness, isolation, envy, jealousy and sleep disturbance! ;)
The Singularity is moving closer each day. The exciting part of this technology advancement is the ability to network and engage from a distance virtually. The concerning part is spending so much time in VR that you forget that your REAL world is one that needs you most.
This is really cool! But.. scary in some way. Imagine you will only be meeting your spouse/partner in the virtual world who could be physically 10k miles away. In 10 yrs, people will stop going out of their homes. And we will be in the matrix.
Had the opportunity to try this yesterday at F8. Wow. I felt there was a lot to explore, but only got to try a few things in the 5 minute demo. They still have a long way to go to work out design and scale, but I'm excited to see where Facebook will take this next. As they made clear in so many of their demos this week, they are just getting started...
Not sure how I feel about this one. I admire the will to push VR forward, but not sure that people will start buying headsets because they want to use spaces (as it is now*) .
