Ohhh is this Facebook's move into Snapchat territory?! Interesting to see the way businesses can use it!
Excited to see how it's implemented and the reaction
I think this will have a bigger impact on Facebook than Snapchat... I never look at Discover by brands. Keen to see how Canvas is implemented (maybe in our feeds?!).
@bentossell I think this will invite more businesses and big brands to try Facebook for advertising as it's mobile and is much more targeted when compared to traditional TV advertising. It's also on the same lines of Instant articles and should appear on feed for both smartphones and tablets.
I wouldn't say this is a Snapchat Discover clone, it's more of FB's "Instant Articles" version of ads. Gives them more control over the experience and keeps it within the app.
@ourielohayon Agreed. I also wondered at the potential TM conflict with Canvas, the popular LMS. There's some functionality overlap, even if the market is different. canvaslms.com
This isn't a snapchat discover clone. Discover is meant for top of the funnel engagement with brands. This is more of a new ad-format for facebook meant to engage the consumer on a deeper level and push them to take an action. Yes, there are swipe patterns that they have in common (swipe up/down, left/right) but those are hardly unique to Discover.
This looks like an awesome way to tell stories on Facebook - right now the main options are 1) link, 2) video, or 3) instant article. This is like instant articles, but way more visual. Love it and excited to experiment with it.
Facebook needed to make a fresh play. This might just be what brands have been looking for. Especially if the claims of 10x mobile web speeds are true. Video is very high potential area.
Really excited for this! One thing I really like from this is the freedom in layout and interaction that Canvas enables.
At a glance, it indeed reminds people of Snapchat Discover. I feel that Snapchat Discover was the first platform that truly capture and brought this type of interaction with brands mainstream. As a result, we see Twitter Mention and now this.
I think this kind of vertical - interactive - story telling format will be adopted even further across even more platforms. With that in mind, I think we will no longer root this kind of interaction back to Snapchat Discover.
I don't understand the comparisons to Discover. Discover is a consumer-facing experience...this is a publisher-facing tool for making consumer-facing experiences. I like seeing Canvas, because I've been curious about the CMS that Publishers use to make stories on Discover.
