@unpositive looks very useful -- question on how I would use it. So on my iMac I have no problem with space, but on my MacBook I do... Does using this mean that I wont have to have the Product Hunt Dropbox downloaded on my MacBook, but can still access the files offline? (and if so, what would I have to do to get those Dropbox files off my MacBook so they don't take up the space)
@nivo0o0 With CloudMounter you can only mount online storage with active Internet connection. You will not be able to access files offline if they are not locally synced. You can use CloudMounter to save space on your MacBook, but you will not be able to access files offline.
This is a really cool. How does this compare to the new features in macOS that automatically backup files, and clear storage?
Considering that I have 1TB on Google Drive, and 5GB on iCloud, this could be useful. 😀
@gabriel__lewis Hi Gabriel, you will get the access to your files in Google Drive, but all the files still store in the cloud. You can copy, move, open, download and upload files to your cloud servers, just as you would be doing it with your local folders.
Hi everyone! Today I'm glad to present CloudMounter on Producthunt. It's a reliable system utility that allows mounting different cloud storages and web servers to your Mac as local disks.
Supported cloud services:
- Google Drive
- Microsoft OneDrive
- Dropbox
- Amazon S3
- FTP
- FTPS
- SFTP
- WebDAV
CloudMounter is a must-have tool if you use several cloud accounts or if your Mac SSD drive has an extremely low capacity.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment here, I will be glad to answer!
@unpositive How does it compare to the google drive app for mac, will it download all the drive files locally? Will it sync the files between local drive and cloud service ?
@suchitpuri Unlike native clients, CloudMounter does not sync your local information, it works directly with online data, mounted to your Mac. The files are downloaded into cache only if you open them.
@nikita_skitev Unfortunately, due to restrictions of Apple Time Machine it is impossible to choose virtually mounted drives for backup. Thus, you will be unable to use Time Machine with Google Drive, by means of CloudMounter.
So, 5 days after the Product Hunt intro price of $9.99, the app is on twodollartuesday for $1.99.
I'm all for supporting devs with fair prices - but sometimes you're your own worst enemy. In my mind Cloudmounter app is now a $1.99 app, and no matter how good it's I'll very likely not recommend it on whatever post-sale is set ($29?!). Since I'll probably say "buy it when it's on sale again".
I've regularly used ExpanDrive and the native Mac client from Google, until recently. CloudMounter is simply the best of both worlds.
(a) CloudMounter doesn't take up local disc space by copying Google Drive contents to the Mac HDD (which is how ExpanDrive operates)
(b) CloudMounter is *fast*. No, it's *very* fast (similar to Google's native client)
ExpanDrive on the other hand is slow. *very* slow. It also regularly fails to take notice of files uploaded to Google Drive from other places, until I disconnect from Drive and mount again at which point the new files magically appear.
My only very minor gripe with CloudMounter is that I didn't realize it was node-locked to one install at a time, so I can't use it on my MacBook and Hackintosh simultaneously. I probably didn't read that in the T&Cs when I bought it and it's fairly standard I guess.
@unpositive@steve1215 Was on the fence about purchasing, $10/computer * 5 computers seems too steep, I'll keep using Transmit. Product looks great though! kudos
Hi! This looks great, but I've seen here (http://forums.macrumors.com/thre...) that the Mac App Store version will be "slightly limited". What exactly does that mean? Thanks!
@jmiralva there is a difference in mount technology. In the website version you are also able to mount your drive using OS X FUSE (Apple doesn't permit using this technology for sand boxed applications on the Mac App Store).
Honestly I'm pretty disappointed by this, I bought it instantly without even reading reviews, features or seeing screenshots but, after using it for a day, i experienced lots of crashes, drives disappearing, google drive (which i use for work every day) integration needs lot of improvements (invisible folders, broken google docs links), no offline mode. I requested a refund, i think i will continue using odrive.
@pieroborgo Thank you for your critical feedback, it's highly appreciated. We keep polishing our product and will take into account all the comments. But i kindly advise you to contact our support team at support@eltima.com, so they could help you to solve the issues you faced with.
@rossbates Current offer is applicable only for MAS edition of CloudMounter and for a limited time. If you own any competitive product you may request 50% discount for standalone version from our web-site here: http://mac.eltima.com/mount-clou...
I like the idea and I think it will be a great tool to integrate into my tool chain - once it's better polished. While I've experienced crashes I can forgive, i cannot over see a problem regarding the mounted drives: i created a Dropbox drive, then added it to my finder sidebar. After a while or so accessing the drive through the sidebar icon didn't seem to work anymore so I tried to remove the shortcut - but it wouldn't let me. I now have this "dead shortcut" inside my finder and I can't get rid of it 😞😩
@stas_kulesh Hello Stas, thank you for your feedback. We are already working on it. Please contact our support team at support@eltima.com, this will help us to fix it asap.
@tomflemming Unlike ExpanDrive, we use native Mac OS technologies to mount online drives (i.e. FUSE for OS X). The app does not require any aditional components to be installed, which is appreciated by Apple and results into the fact that CloudMounter has been recently featured in Mac App Store.
@unpositive can you take a look at my question from yesterday and let me know what you think?
@unpositive so I use office 365 for work religiously. OneDrive for Business, or whatever they're calling it now is giving me an error when I try to login to it. We use OKTA for SSO, which I can't stand, but is that creating the problem when I try to mount my OneDrive account? It asks me to sign in.. once attempt to do that I get an error "something went wrong" or something like that.
Also.. do you know if I could setup my WD My Cloud Mirror with CloudMounter via FTP or anything else like that? This is a bit different than the normal cloud service since the actual "cloud" is at my house. But.. WD has an online portal that allows you to manage everything when you're away from local network.
