After nearly nine years at Google, I left three months ago to build Dyad β a free, open-source vibe coding tool that runs locally and gives you the control that Lovable, v0, and Bolt don't. Itβs been an amazing journey building in public, and Iβm excited to finally launch it on Product Hunt!
Here's a few things that make Dyad special:
π» Runs on your computer (Mac/Windows)
βΎοΈ Free forever β no limits, no required subscription
π¦ No vendor lock-in β works frictionlessly with other AI tools like Cursor and Claude Code

@wwwillchen you're a saint!
@wwwillchen sadly I use linux...I would love to use it but I am NOT using apple or windows
@wwwillchen Still sounds and looks absolutely EXCELLENT!
because of no pricing tags I can immediately say this product is better than bolt, cursor or lovable

this is goldmine for developers!

@kshitij_mishra4 thanks! great for developers and non-developers π
Congratulations on the launch! Itβs inspiring to see a free, open-source, and local coding tool that puts users in control
Dyad
@hi_caicai thank youπ that's exactly what we're aiming for
Congrats on the launch @wwwillchen does dyad keep the memory of every conversation?
Dyad
@sathish_thiyagarajan27 there isn't a memory feature right now, but it's a good idea!
Dyad uses the current chat as context (and you can configure how many messages, e.g. a few messages or all the messages, are used from the current chat to optimize your tokens).
@wwwillchen Thank you for your response, Most of the except GPT doesn't offer that feature and it is difficult to keep track on certain things and also if you have time try launching in go-publicly.com no compulsion at all. Maybe you can visit and share your feedback.

This is awesome! Could I connect an existing VS code workspace (that I built on Lovable) with Dyad to make iterative changes on an existing app?
Dyad
@jacobseeger yes! Dyad works well with all of your existing IDE / coding tools like VS Code.
way better than lovable and bolt
Dyad
@ryan_wong14 thanks, appreciate it!
Dyad
@mohd_mezher thank you for the kind words!
Nice! @wwwillchen , do we need a beastly graphic card on our local machine for this to run good?
Dyad
@qaunainm only if you want to run local models! you can also connect to cloud models (which most users do)
@wwwillchen amazing I'll definitely try it out soon with cloud models. Another random question, have you ever thought of making an integration with Firebase, i.e. one that Dyad can code into, just like most the Ai coder tools have with Supabase (I saw you also have one with Supabase).
Reason: Supabase has a $25/month fee if you have more than 2 projects, but with tools like yours, they allow you to create many MVPs (and full-blown software) rapidly, so we can max out the Supabase free tier in a few hours.

@leonardcser thanks! a lot of work but well worth it π
Motiff
It is convenient by working seamlessly with AI models like Gemini & Claude, and running on both Mac and Windows. Makes using it so easy and smooth.
Dyad
@pulin_yuuu thank you!
This looks powerful. Any chance do you plan to ship something for non-technical builders?
Dyad
@5harath great question - so most Dyad users are not engineers or developers! If you can chat with AI, you build with Dyad!
I recently started using a new coding tool called Dyad, and I just had to share my experience! It launched on Product Hunt, and itβs been a game-changer for me, I built my app with Dyad here.
Firstly, itβs completely free and runs locally on my machine, which is a huge plus for anyone concerned about data privacy or simply wanting to keep things simple. What I love most is that it lets you use any AI model you want, even the free onesβplug in your API and youβre good to go.
Using Dyad has saved me so much time and effort in my development work. It feels like I can focus more on what I want to create instead of getting bogged down by setup or limitations. Whether youβre a seasoned developer or just starting, I think itβs worth checking out. Itβs surprisingly straightforward and makes the coding process much smoother. Give it a try if youβre looking to level up your coding adventure!
Iβve been using Dyad for nearly two months now, and itβs quickly become one of the most valuable tools in my creative and entrepreneurial toolkit. Itβs refreshing to work with something thatβs not only free and open-source, but also thoughtfully designed to remove friction. The experience feels natural and flexible, which has allowed me to experiment more freely and uncover a few promising directions for new business opportunities.
Special shoutout to @wwwillchen for building something genuinely useful and fostering a great community. Looking forward to seeing how Dyad continues to evolve.

@aaron_buhagiar1 thank you for the feedback and being an early supporter of Dyad!
Very cool! Will give this a spin for sure.

@jeremy_maisse great question. This is definitely a challenge with AI coding and Dyad handles this by sending by default the entire codebase as context to avoid having the AI duplicate code, etc. With Dyad Pro, there's a Smart Context mode which automatically finds the most relevant files to optimize token usage and still avoid this issue where duplicate code is being generated.
Great! Looks like this is going to help a lot of small businesses and non-coders out there!
Thee is no Discord community for any product discussions including fixes , enhancements and announcements.

@wildcat1 there's a very active reddit community: https://www.reddit.com/r/dyadbuilders/
