This looks great. At my previous gig I had zero one on ones in my first year of employment. Crazy but true. Ways to bring one on ones to the fore, make it effective and easy to do are an easy win.
Congrats on the launch, execution here looks ace 🙌
Thanks @fredrivett - exactly the point that it's so simple but have a major impact on team members which why we see this as a great opportunity to change the relationship and build trust which leads to the happy team that every manager wants.
Hi there Product Hunt!
Thank you Stefano for hunting us today, we are very excited to present Duuoo to the community. With Duuoo you can automate the tedious work of setting up 1-on-1s with your team members and focus on talking points that matter most.
Why is this important? Because according to Gallup’s research 68% of your team members are not engaged at work. By running regular 1-on-1 meetings, managers can focus on what’s really important: people. By keeping team members engaged, managers can increase retention rates and increase productivity - just to name two advantages with Duuoo.
As a special gift for the community, I would like to offer you three months free for an unlimited amount of teams so you can test out our product.
We are very much looking forward to the feedback of the Product Hunt community!
I wrote a Medium post on the thought processes that drove us to build Duuoo, find it here: https://medium.com/@greenlieber/...
Kind regards:
Dennis, co-founder, Duuoo
@greenlieber This looks like a seriously smart and much needed product. Wish every manager I had used something like this...
How come nothing like this existed before now? - Is there an enabler (or a set of them) that made sense for this to exist now? Tnx!
@jmarovt To be frank, the HR tech space had too much focus on "Top management" needs building influence tools like surveys and people analytics, etc. Not what the manager/team members needs to drive a culture of communication flows. So that's why 1) HR is indeed seeing a lot of change now 2) Managers never got the support and the focus on their needs to execute better 3) slack is enabling us to tap into current infrastructure helping teams on a micro level to start moving onto tools like ours.
@greenlieber
Good stuff! Here's my feedback:
I like:
· 🎨 The UI just feels good & clean.
· 🌍 The problem you tackle (make it dead easy for busy managers to have an automated flow for 1on1)
Possible improvements:
· 👣 Onboarding: I would have expected the bot to either make me choose an initial 1on1 date & time instead of being forced on a default that was the next day at 9AM (and worst: my invitee was prompted that this would be the date of the meeting 😬). Maybe at least initiate a discussion between the Manager and the Employee (just like it does when I reschedule).
· 👓 Clarity for employee: Also some people in my team mentioned they were confused by what was shared and what wasn't after they completed the pre-meeting form.
· ✨ UX: Some quick design feedback too: the UI is really nice, but the UX is quite confusing for some actions: the main CTA was sometimes below the fold during the onboarding, despite the fact that there was plenty of whitespace. Also the layout for the team page is another example of nice UI, but arguable UX: I'd rather see a clean custom table than big tiles where I have to scroll to find the 8th person in my team 😉.
With that said: Very nice product overall. Also well-aligned with our bigger vision here at Officevibe.
Cheers and best of luck.
-Dan.
@danbenoni Thanks a lot for the feedback and kind words Dan!
To make it brief:
· 👣 Onboarding: Agreed - in the future we’re not going to set a specific time for the very first 1-on-1, but rather let people start it whenever they’re ready or schedule a specific date at a later point in time. We have a pretty sweet shared-slack conversation with the Duuoo bot that makes it easy to schedule the meetings.
· 👓 Clarity for employee: The confidentiality of the 1-on-1’s is extremely important to us - and the whole idea of sharing notes before the meeting is new to a lot of people. We’ll definitely look into it!
· ✨ UX: It’s a balance for sure. As much as we’re love thinking and talking about employee engagement every day, we’re building Duuoo just as much for people who don’t live it every day, so we’re definitely leaning more towards the occasional users (given that it’s ≈1 mo. per team member) than the heavy daily power users.
@jmarovt There have been things around (for example, Lighthouse has been around ~2 years) and given the number of them emerging over the last few months (duuoo, a company in Estonia, a few stealths in the Valley) it's clear people are waking up to this.
The reason? Millennials. They vote with their feet and leave if they have a bad manager, versus past generations sticking it out at one company their whole career. We also tend to look for apps to help us, so as other Millennials become managers, they're more inclined to think software to help them makes sense.
@marygreenim first off the remote teams set up is 100% an opportunity looks into as well that has even worse problems than being in the same office.
What is a team? Good question but for us, it's a manager + the direct reports he/she has.
This looks like a very beautiful, clean version of a rat-king of a google sheet I've rigged together for similar purposes. Happy to ditch the mess I built for this clean issssh. @duuooio@stefanobernardi
@benjamost Our main focus is to support managers because that is where the impact really is. If you look at research up to 70% of the employees leaves their manager, not the job which tells us this is where we need to solve problems first. In the longer run, we do know that we need to support HR more, and we have items in the roadmap for this.
Looks great. We currently use 15five which is pretty nice.
My feedback would be on pricing. Why not pay per user? We are all used to that pricing model. In your pricing, what constitute a team? I don't really want to ask myself that question.
Good luck with the product!
@copypastaa Would love to learn more about what you like about 15five - up for a chat?
About pricing: We build a tool to help manager (i know we support team members also) that is the reason for the team, so it's a pricing unit for the managers only which is why we don't care about the number of employees they have in a team. We are exploring in the area, and feedback is must need.
@ejameswill couldn’t agree more! Regular and meaningful meetings between managers and team members are essential. That is exactly the thought that drove us when building Duuoo. The teams that are already using Duuoo have been quite positive about the effect it had on their effectiveness. Many managers still need to discover the importance of 1-on-1s tho!
Great job @greenlieber and team! We've been using it for a little while now in beta and I must say I'm impressed. Really puts the 1-on-1's on auto-pilot. I love the way it sets up the meeting automatically, gives you talking points (so stuff doesn't get awkward) and you can enter agreements between you and your employee to follow up on. Great product, very much reccommended for managers, team leaders and CXO's! EDIT: I forgot the awesome Slack integration. Getting a heads up/notification just before starting is great.
Great product. Just one question, what's the idea behind the personal pattern (the randomly generated one)? I get it's nice but looks like a lot of work
@stefanozorzi We let everybody create a personalized pattern when they setup their profile and use the team members pattern to basically theme the entire 1-on-1. We want to make it the team members space, given the inherent disconnect of power in the relationship between the manager and team member. We don't think of the 1-on-1's as reviews, but the team members place to help the manager focus on what's most important to them. And yes, it was way too much work ;)
Hey Duuoo team, Great work with the product. Quick feedback:
Cool stuff:
1) UI
2) Promising product
Improvement ideas:
1) I found it buggy. When my colleague signed up for the first time, there are multiple calendar events scheduled thought we can't see both of them on our interfaces. There is no feature to cancel the scheduled events either.
2) The onboarding/signup flow can be improved. I had to force my colleague to open the app for signin up. preferably, they should get signup instructions directly in Slack.
3) Possibility to change talking points
Obvious ones:
1) Calendar integration
Cheers :)
@sidgunti Hey, thanks a lot for the actionable feedback!
1: That seems a bit odd, we sent out an invite to each person that in the meeting and you can see all meeting coming up on your team page don’t you see them? if not please contact out support via intercom.
2: Updates are coming to the onboarding making it better! But each team member you invite should get an invite message in slack from duuoo.io
3: That is on the roadmap within the next weeks I can share a bit more, will for sure reach out.
4. Calendar integration is on the roadmap.
Again thanks! Please use the intercom if you see any bugs again our engineering team is there ready.
This is true, I have been on both sides of this as a manager and as an employee. As an employee it is hard to stay engaged and I could see having constant 1 on 1's with your manager improving that.
@toxboe Thanks! We are exploring our options with goals or more in mentoring/coaching. I would love to talk to you about how you view this working with goals?
"you are not authorized to add applications to Slack" is a problem that hobbles all products that rely on Slack authentication. I'd love to try this out but having to go to my devops guy every time I find something I want to try fatigues him.
@jeff_nolan Yeah, that is slack that made that setup, which makes sense. We are planning to enable the option so you can request the admin to install an app via Slack new setup.
@sorenrt thank you! completely agree, there has been extensive research in the field confirming the positive effect of 1-on1s. If you’re interested, I list them in my medium post: https://medium.com/@greenlieber/...
Looks really cool - I've worked in this space previously and there's going to be a lot of interesting things happening. I really like the "micro" approach with focusing on the 1-on-1's rather than gathering a lot of big impersonal data - employees are more than numbers in a spreadsheet! People don't leave their job - they leave their manager!
Hope duuoo will lead the way to a better relationship and understanding between managers and employees! Great work, guys!
@burkapanda exactly! That is why our approach towards 1-on-1s is research based and people-centered. Research based in the sense that we help managers with questions in-app that are based on current developments in psychology and HR. People-centered in the sense that Duuoo exists to help automating the process so managers can focus on their teams rather then setting up calendar events.
Hi there guys,
Very slick and useful tool, will give it a spin as soon as I can ;)
Two quick questions:
1. How much Google Duo launch influenced your branding/name?
2. Do you have any sneak peek on how the cal integrations will look like?
Keep up the good work!
@andodet Thanks for the feedback
1. We were called duuoo from back in may so no influence from Google :)
2. We can jump on a demo but currently it's email invites and confirm/rescheduling flow are via slack using the new buttons as well, but we have on the roadmap to add full integration also to recommend available timeslots for both parties.
I know Dennis and the team and I tried Duuoo last week with my own team. As a first-time founder and rookie CEO, it's a super helpful tool to get a structure around nursing my employees. What I like most is that it's light weight, pretty damn easy, and easy to use...because Slack ;)
Oh yeah, and I felt like a good manager too *pads myself on the shoulder*
