Hello everyone! @cikokwu1, one of the makers of Divercity.io, here. We’re on a mission to close the workforce equity gap, starting with the tech industry. Quick backstory: Some years ago, I found out the hard way that the color of my skin (I’m black) could work against me in the workplace, and growing up in West Africa 🇳🇬, I never thought this would be the case when I moved to the US 22 years ago, until it happened. At my first job out of college, I was the first non-white employee ever hired by the company, and about 2 weeks in, one of my coworkers decided that I was not good enough for the job merely based on the fact that I look different from everyone else, and for months I kept having to test and prove my candidacy. Since then, I became an advocate for diversity and equity in the workplace. As a data science and machine learning professional I realize that this is a mission very difficult to materialize without data 📊 and that’s why we built Divercity.io, a diversity insights and recruitment platform for companies that are serious about building and retaining diverse and inclusive orgs. The diversity team has been relentless in ensuring that we make the lives of heads of talent, chief human resource officers, and chief diversity officers a lot easier when it comes to building a diverse candidate pipeline and a diverse workforce. This is not an easy battle but with your help it’s one that can be won by everyone who is working hard to close the workforce diversity gap, which is currently a $400B annual cost according to CompTIA.
