DWaste replaces slow, error-prone audits with AI-powered real-time waste identification. It enables accurate sorting, automated reports, and insights helping schools save time, engage communities, and achieve sustainability goals
We built DWaste to solve a big challenge: manual waste audits are slow, costly, and often inaccurate. With DWaste, schools and institutions can finally track and sort waste in real-time with AI reducing errors, saving time, and making sustainability goals more achievable. What’s unique is that DWaste not only identifies waste but also automates reporting, helping teams stay audit-ready for certifications like Zero Waste and LEED. We’re most proud of making sustainability measurable and actionable for everyone.
@sadie_scott Yes! D.Waste tracks the number of individual items you’ve successfully diverted from landfills. It also calculates your average carbon footprint savings, giving you a clear picture of your positive environmental impact over time.
I love the idea of rewarding users for proper disposal it’s such a fun incentiv but can points be exchanged for real rewards or is it mainly about gamified recognition within the app?
@samuel_kahlo Yes, they can. We’ve partnered with local eco-brands in a pilot program where users can redeem their points for discounts. Here's an example of how one can redeem rewards.
@jackson_wells We’ve partnered with local businesses to offer discounts on groceries, food, and tickets. While points can’t be redeemed for cash, they can be used to support and enjoy local shops and services.
How do you deal with items that don’t fit typical categories like hazardous waste or mixed material products? Does the app flag them or is there a lack of guidance?
@grayson_parker2 Depending on business needs, we provide solutions to sort specific types of waste. We haven’t worked on hazardous waste yet, but our system can handle mixed single-stream recycling waste.
@ayesha_akram4 We provide an option to opt in to recycling guidelines tailored to specific institutions or locations. Based on your selection, the guidelines are automatically updated.
I think the concept is fantastic but AI recognition might have a tough time with unusual or brand specific packaging. A community reporting feature could really help improve accuracy over time.
@michael_davies5 That makes sense. In some cases, misidentification may occur. When this happens, users can report the misclassified images through the app, and these images are later used to retrain and improve the model.
@nathaniel_cook2 Yes! We’re currently running a pilot in Baltimore City where users can scan a QR code to opt into their local recycling guidelines. Our platform is fully configurable, so we can easily adapt to any city’s rules as long as the guidelines are provided.
@benjamin_anderson3 The app is available worldwide, but its predictions may not be as accurate in certain regions if the training images do not represent those areas. Users can submit misclassified images, which will later be used to improve the model.

This tool for sustainable living is fantastic. Does the app have the ability to identify electronic or hazardous waste?
DWaste
@alexander_green6 We currently support the detection of electronic waste, but not hazardous waste.

The rewards program is such a clever idea. How can users cash in their points?

How does D.Waste keep up with updates to recycling guidelines? Are changes automatically pushed based on location?
DWaste
@ayesha_akram4 We provide an option to opt in to recycling guidelines tailored to specific institutions or locations. Based on your selection, the guidelines are automatically updated.
This app is super practical. Can it scan several items at once or is it just one at a time?
DWaste
@jude_gray It can detect multiple items at once. I suggest giving it a try, as it’s available on both the Play Store and the App Store.
It’s inspiring to see AI being used for eco consciousness. Is it functional offline as well?
DWaste
@matteo_rider Yes, it is. I suggest giving it a try, as it’s available on both the Play Store and the App Store.

I love this gamified approach to recycling. Are there any plans to incorporate local recycling guidelines?
DWaste
@nathaniel_cook2 Yes! We’re currently running a pilot in Baltimore City where users can scan a QR code to opt into their local recycling guidelines. Our platform is fully configurable, so we can easily adapt to any city’s rules as long as the guidelines are provided.
@suman_kunwar Can I use D.Waste without an internet connection, or does it need to be online all the time?
DWaste
@noah_ortiz The app works offline. You only need an internet connection to participate in the leaderboard or to submit a misclassified image.
Can D.Waste connect with smart bins or local recycling programs to make disposal even easier?
DWaste
@matthew_flores1 It can. We already have an edge device that helps to sort items and also collect data.
Fantastic tool. Is the app available worldwide or is it currently limited to certain regions?
DWaste
