“With any kind of specialist, a CPA or an accountant or a lawyer, it's always best to use people who are used to dealing with startups. Not your aunt who lives in Minnesota and doesn't actually know how startups work.” - Kirsty Nathoo, Y Combinator Startup Class. Hello Hunters! My name is Nodar Janashia and I’m one of the makers of CountUp. We spent 12 months curating our network of accountants. Our most important criteria was experience and knowledge of startup needs. It’s simple – tell us what you need, get matched with an accountant, and carry on building your product. As an early stage startup, hiring an accountant is an excruciatingly painful and expensive process. Traditional accounting firms have high partner fees, office expenses, and charge by the hour. At CountUp we use technology to eliminate overhead, providing you with a dedicated accountant for a flat monthly fee. If we’ve come at a right time for you, try us out now and we’ll pay for your accountant for a month! That’s it! We’d love to hear your thoughts and suggestions. I’ll be answering questions for the rest of the day.

@nodarj You say for a flat monthly fee, you get access to the accountant but does it technically mean I can call him any day at any time (except probably weekends and after hours)?
Nodar Janashia
@cemedericarak Yes, you can reach out to your accountant for questions anytime through CountUp's live-chat OR by scheduling a call. All plans come with at least one monthly detailed screen-share meeting. If you have a question or need to reach out to your accountant you can do so anytime. Of course, if you require additional work to be done, your accountant will charge a fixed fee based on your additional needs. Let me know if you have any more questions! Would love to clarify.

@nodarj FYI, spelling issue with "accountat" on your opening statement (last word). Congrats on the launch!
Nodar Janashia
@kenyarmosh Thank you!

What's weird about this post is that all but one comment is a review from a user. That is suspicious in how the usual makeup of comments is 90% those who haven't used a product yet. @nodarj

hey @elizabethhunker Shota Megrelishvili, David Head, Igor Yuzovitskiy, and Max Savin are our customers and wanted to show support today. Daniel and Yassine helped us out with design. I couldn't predict who would comment on our post exactly but i would love to get additional feedback!

Great idea but as @2centcap observed, building a two sided marketplace can be challenging. Maybe you could partner with an industry association eg. AICPA. Is this service available only in the USA?
Nodar Janashia
@ravsydney great suggestion, partnering up with AICPA would be incredible. All of our accountants are US-based but they are able to service foreign companies trying to expand to the USA. We did not expect this, but because of the fact that foreigners cant open up bank accounts in the US, in some cases our CPAs became secretaries for these foreign corps and opened up business checking accounts in the USA on their behalf.
Daniel.
Had the pleasure of going to Disrupt SF this year with Nodar to showcase CountUp. Really great service for something most people just don't understand or want to deal with in the first place. @Nodar what would you say is the biggest mistake startups do with their accounting?
Nodar Janashia
@danielrakh I would say the biggest mistake startups make is completely ignoring bookkeeping tasks in the very beginning. Sure you might not have a lot of transactions but these transactions will start to add up. Before you know it, you are forced to pay thousands of dollars for your accountant to trace back and manually reconcile most of your transactions. If you spend just a little bit of time streamlining your daily bookkeeping tasks and organizing your financial data at the start of your operations, you will save thousands in accounting fees and have a clear vision of your company's finances. To me, accounting exercises have similar effects on building sustainable businesses as lean development exercises on building great products.
Cody McLain
I find the plan limitations in regards to accounts, well ... very limiting. For example we have a paypal account but we might use it once every 3 months for a single transaction. I don't see how if that single paypal account would necessitate having to pay an extra $300/month... Your plans should be based on volume of transactions, not number of accounts.
Nodar Janashia
@codymclain great point and i agree - we will be adding on a leveler on top which would allow you to choose how many unique transactions you have on average per month. Based on your input prices for all 3 tiers will change. Right now, you can input # of transactions when you are telling us about your needs and your accountant will estimate the price based on your input. You could have 3 or 4 different accounts but if there is not a lot of activity the price will be significantly lower.
Yassine el Kachchani
Got the chance to work with Nodar on countup for quite some time. One of the few who understood the true meaning of getting out of the building. He did a terrific job with vetting CPAs and has the most Startup friendly accountants group I've seen.
Nodar Janashia
@kachchani Appreciate it man. Truly feels incredible watching our accountants empower founders with the financial expertise they need.
Hicham Amine
Very useful product Nodar especially for early-stage founders. I do believe there are huge advantages using Countup versus externalizing your accounting to any kind of firm. I'm sure lot of startups will be drawn to it.
Nodar Janashia
@hicham_amine Thank you! And yes I think many early-stage founders completely ignore accounting because the typical accounting firm model is so out of reach for them. But good accounting is crucial to the long-term success and sustainability of any business. If you don't streamline your accounting processes right from the beginning, manual work will just keep adding up month over month. We hope with CountUp early-stage founders can get the high-quality accounting help they need for a price that makes sense for them.

@nodarj Great product and great service being offered here. Good to see you are providing the liquidity and price transparency needed in this industry. The proliferation of automated and bot accounting platforms are a farce, nothing can replace the value having an educated and qualified bookkeeper.
Igor Yuzo
CountUp made is easy to find an accountant based on merit. I felt comfortable assigning work to an accountant that has been vetted based on his experience working with startups. CountUp is a time and money saver, seriously - 1) Fill out Form 2) Get a proposal almost instantly 3) e-sign and pay within the platform. As a founder I look for ways to minimize distractions and maximize time spent on building my product, CountUp helped me do that. Great work @nodarj!
Nodar Janashia
@byte_down thanks for your feedback Igor, I'm always happy to help out a fellow entrepreneur with accounting :) As I mentioned before, we are working on integrations with existing accounting systems like Quickbooks and Xero. Let me know what you would like to see next!
Max Savin
This may be the first true 1000 year company, as they say taxes cannot be avoided in life. Had a good experience with this service, hope to see it grow.
David Head
Nodar and CountUp helped us tremendously a few months ago. We were looking for a bookkeeper who knew startups – specifically marketplaces (our type). There are a lot of bookkeepers out there, so we didn't expect to find the right fit easily. CountUp got us connected with the perfect person in a matter of hours.
Nodar Janashia
@_davidhead Thank you David! Very glad we were able to streamline bookkeeping for DesignLive and we will do our best to help you guys forget about accounting while you focus on improving your product :) We are currently working on integrations with existing accounting systems like Quickbooks and Xero. Let me know what you would like to see next!
Shota Megrelishvili
We've just moved our startup entity to US jurisdiction, though we're still running it from outside of US (https://LuckStock.com) I've been searching all the web for a tax adviser & accountant for my early stage startup for weeks until I found Countup. Guys, this is absolutely brilliant service we're using for months already and with it help we've got CFO/CPA + accountant on-board easily that takes care of our tax and accounting issues and costs us the sum we could afford. The only concern here is to understand how important is to have a good tax adviser and accountant from the first days, all the rest will be resolved by Countup. Don't spend your time in endless searches (I've used craiglist, upworks, etc), just go for it!
Nodar Janashia
@smegrelishvili thank you Shota, glad we helped you out!
Nikita Kozlovski
After having a bad experience and cancelling their service, many months later, I got a $299 charge from them (apparently they kept my credit card number). After contacting Nodar, he apologized saying there was some kind of mistake, promised to refund immediately. A month has passed and no refund. This is not bad customer service, this is straight up fraud! Update: They have finally issued a refund by PayPal
Stephane
12 months or 1 year? 😜
Nodar Janashia
@stephanehaddad 365 days 😬
Dmitriy
This is great. Two-sided marketplaces are difficult to build, but this looks extremely promising.
Nodar Janashia
@2centcap thanks and yes it is very difficult. You can't apply the same marketplace model across all industries. Especially when it comes to hiring an accountant - you are hiring someone who will handle your finances, not hailing a cab. Our matching process ensures incoming startups get matched with the most appropriate accountant based on their industry, business model, and size.
Oleksandr Gamaniuk
Finally! Have been waiting for this many years. Good job.
Nodar Janashia
Thank you @agamanyuk !
Corey Abramowitz
So necessary and needed for the startups of the world. Thank you!
Nodar Janashia
No problem @mrabramowitz 😊 we are thrilled the community is paying attention to accounting!
