Introducing AirCodum – the ultimate extension for mobile VS Code control. Mirror your desktop VS Code instance onto your smartphone and take full command of your coding environment on the go. Code freely, right from your phone even when you are AFK!
Hey Product Hunters!
I'm super excited to share an update for my little hobby project, AirCodum. A while back, I built something that let you pair your phone with VS Code: imagine controlling your code editor, sharing files, and even grabbing live screenshots, all from your phone. It was my way of keeping an eye on things when I wasn’t glued to my desk.
Well, fast forward to today and I had this wild idea: why not mirror my entire desktop (yes, even my full VS Code environment) right onto my phone? And now, it’s a reality! Here’s what you can do:
- Full VS Code control: Tinker with every setting and command directly from your phone.
- Custom Mobile Keyboard: I’m working on one that’s optimized for mobile coding (because why should coding be desktop-only?).
- Command Palette Magic: With auto-complete for nearly 800 commands, it’s like having a cheat sheet in your pocket.
- Voice Input: Sometimes, speaking is just easier than typing on a tiny screen.
- Mouse & Keyboard Control: Yep, complete control, even when you’re away from your desk.
This idea hit me during one of those frantic moments: when a build would fail and I wasn’t even at my PC. I thought, “What if I could just whip out my phone and fix it?” Now, I can monitor tasks, rerun commands, and even work on side projects while on the go.
I’d love for you to give it a spin and let me know what you think. The extension is open source, and there’s support for both Android and iOS. Happy coding on the go! (Do watch the video to learn how to make it work and ping me on Twitter if you need help getting it set up!)
@beatrice_cromwell Hi Beatrice, it depends on the network conditions. I would say there's a "tolerable" lag in my experience and I am working on optimizing things even further
