What makes a product video actually convincing to you?

We’ve all seen flashy demos with slick animations… but not all of them stick.

So here’s the question: what actually makes a product video convincing to you?

Is it clarity? A relatable use case? Strong narration? Or just… showing the product in action without fluff?

We’re building Clueso with this in mind and would love to hear what you think separates a forgettable video from one that actually moves you to try something.

Simplicity. Here's the problem, here's the solution (and show how it actually works in -20 secs)

@dnunes8 big fan of simplicity! Anything you'd want to share that you follow to make a video simple?

If you can articulate what problem you are solving in the video, I think this should cut it across to the audience.

@shashank_tonpekar definitely! I think audience relatability while articulating the problem well is a really important aspect. How do you go about this? What steps you follow to make sure that the problem is well articulated in the video?

4 things @ashutosh_raj :

1. Human Face (real one not ai)
2. Features Explained in no-jargon language on a structured manner
3. Actual product shots

4. Video size = 50-60 secs

@cheerst Good points. Strongly second your point about having real product shots. Makes the video more authentic for sure!

Product in action so I can discern whether its actually useful. How well the product and its product video are done is a strong signal as well. I think there are dials involved and plenty of wiggle room. If the product is incredibly useful or innovative and the product video is incredibly basic and concise... that's fine. If the product is not that useful etc, and much effort has went into a product video that still appears poorly put together, that signals things.

I think nowadays theres no reason you cant put together amazing product videos. Theres many apps/products that lets you screenrecord and takes care of zooming. Narration can be done with AI and it works beautifully. Elevenlabs or you can even use the free tier of synthesia and just record the audio with screenrecorder, even though you cant publish the acutal video with lipsync.

IF the product is up to par, and someone has a day to spend on writing the script, recording the vocals, etc... really strong product videos are possible. If the product isnt up to par though, or has no fit... then its alot like fancy business cards. They're great but they wont make or break the company. The product or service does.

@vibefarm Totally agree – a product video isn’t going to save a weak product, but it will amplify clarity when there’s already real value underneath.

Also love your point about there being no excuse anymore. But even with AI voices and screen recorders, the bottleneck we see is still time and friction. That’s actually why we built Clueso - to help teams skip the manual stitching and get to a clear, useful video faster, without needing to spend a whole day scripting and editing.
