We need your opinion 🤩
We’ve put a lot of work into our UI to give you a great time-blocking experience. Unlike most calendar apps, time-blocking tools are meant to be filled up for the day, leaving very little white space. That extra colour density can feel overwhelming! Try filling a whole day in Google Calendar’s day view with coloured events and you’ll see what I mean.
We really value your feedback, so before we tweak the UI we want to make the right choice. Below you’ll find our original task colours alongside a new option we’re considering. Cast your vote for your favourite, and we’ll take it on board.

Based on the poll it seems like I'm in the minority lol, but I prefer the current style. For me, the new one has reduced readability for the actual text on the cards. I think the switch from white or black text to colored text that matches the card makes them a lot harder to actually read. On the other hand, I think the new more transparent background with the white or black text kept, could actually increase readability. Some something like the potential dark mode cards with white text would probably look really nice.

@jakecrump Thanks Jake, I actually completely agree with you about the readability issues. I'll take a look at keeping the black/white text and see what we come up with. I think coloured text is definitely an accessibility issue in the dark mode for sure.
Forgive me for speaking frankly, the current state makes it quite difficult to choose. I have some design suggestions for your reference:
The background color combinations are confusing. For example, gray backgrounds are used on different elements—some are buttons, some are just labels—which makes it hard to tell them apart.
There are too many visual elements layered onto the same content, making things look oversaturated. For tasks, I care more about the content itself, not being distracted by a bunch of flashy visuals.
The information hierarchy is unclear. At first glance, I can’t tell what the main information is supposed to be.

@hi_caicai Hi CaiCai! Thanks for the suggestions. Can I ask if you managed to use the app or based this just off the images?
To respond to your suggestions:
So far we've had only positive feedback about how intuitive the design is so i'd love to find out more about which labels you refer too that you confused with the buttons. We intentionally made only the buttons square, gray and with an icon and none of the other non-button elements share these traits.
Sorry you found it oversaturated. We like to think we kept the tasks super simple with only the Name, emoji and time info. Can I ask which of these you are suggesting should be removed or which "flashy visuals" you refer to.
Lastly Chunk is a time-blocking app. Therefore the information displayed is simply tasks as time-blocks in chronological order. Are you able to expand on what you mean by the information hierarchy being unclear.
Let me know if you get chance to have a look again once you've used the app. Or if you have any issues or confusion.
All the best,
The Chunk Team

I’ll give a simple example: in the current screenshot, these three content elements are, in my view, quite misleading. The first time I saw them, I thought all three might be clickable, because they use similar styles and shadows.
@dudley_spence here are also many other details. For example, this icon—its z-index might be incorrect; it should be higher than the other layers.

@hi_caicai Hi Cal, I'm unsure of how to respond other than that for us it seems really obvious here which is a button and which isn't. The shape and style seems quite distinctive and there is a hover state for each button. That said if you are having trouble you can head to the settings and there is a button hints option which will give you hints as you hover over a button. Another giveaway is that the cursor will change to a pointer on clickable elements

I'd prefer it if you made the small text black on the new style (referring to light mode). That way, it's consistently a light, translucent coloured background with black text.
