๐Ÿ“ˆ Traffic Numbers after a successful Product Hunt launch - Top 5 Product of The Day

Hi folks. Yesterday, I got featured with my latest app, and I made it to Top 5 Products of the day ๐Ÿ”ฅ

I won't share my app's link here. That is not the goal. I just wanted to share some traffic numbers and insights, so you have a realistic expectation of traffic once you make it, too :)

๐Ÿ‘‰ Insights

  • Don't try to build something that gets featured. Build something that solves a problem.

  • Don't stress about getting featured.

  • If you don't get featured, it does not mean your product is not good enough. I have launched multiple times and did not get featured every time.

  • As a solopreneur, I'm very time-efficient, so I tell you this: Don't waste weeks/months preparing for the launch. It is Pointless.

  • You can check my product launch and copy the design of the Images/Media I used. I also copied the design from other successful products. I just added my touch, colours, product info, etc. The structure, though, you can copy. It is clean and straightforward.

  • Don't buy scammers upvotes. I was watching my launch closely, and a couple of products got banned because they did just that.

  • Make sure your first comment on your launch page is clear and explains the product's value and the problem it solves. Don't get creative. Just be straightforward. Again, check mine. I used others to structure mine.

  • A few days before launch share your app with users who fit 100% your target user persona. Listen to their feedback and iterate. That will help you have a smooth product ready to be used. Shout out to @busmark_w_nika & @julia_zakharova2 for supporting me with this.

  • Engage with the comments people leave on your page โ€“ every single one of them. They check your creation and deserve your attention.

All in all, a Product Hunt launch is a great thing to do if you are building apps. Gives you a lot of exposure in a short amount of time. At the end of the day is not PH's job to bring you customers or anything like that. If you get 1,000 visitors and nobody signs up, it does not mean PH is bad. This means you need to iterate. However, if you don't get featured, it does not mean your product is bad. That's why you should not stress about it. I know I didn't. Just a couple of days of effort, that's all.

I'm launching a new app soon ;)

Ask me anything in the comments regarding my launch, and I am happy to support :)

Congrats Tasos! Very impressing that you had more visitors in your app than in the landing page, I guess you have a very good marketing strategy :)

I just started my journey as a solopreneur and I'm in the process of validating my product. I have spent a week building the design of my landing page for almost a week... concerned that it has to be really good. Do you think it is worth spending that much time on a landing page for validation?

Thanks in advance!

Tasos V
@victor_pimentel hi Victor !! and thanks for the support !! i believe that you should not spend a lot of time on the landing. just make sure it has clear messaging. i launched the landing page in 1 day to be honest. Not to brag or anything, just telling you some facts. But i had the product really clear in my head. My advice is - get clear what is the problem u solve - how you solve it - why users should care (search online for Super Mario marketing) - pricing - call to action thats it nothing else.

@cryptosymposium Thanks a lot Tasos, really appreciate it. Yeah, I will aim to finish off the landing page today and host it asap. Thanks for the clear advices, I just read about Super Mario Marketing... everything is much clearer now :) Thank you so much!

Nika

Congratulations :) And thank you for shout out. I am looking forward to the next steps :)

Tasos V

@busmark_w_nika thank you Nika !!! Yes yes, more is coming soon. Seems like chatWise also brought a lot of interest and some revenue so I will be working on that as well. Maybe a 2.0 version launch soon too.

Nika

@cryptosymposium Would definitely go for more in marketing, because if launch can bring money, this can be scalable even more :)

Olivier Roth

Solid advice @cryptosymposium thanks for sharing! Keep it up

Tasos V

@olivier_roth thank you man appreciate it. Good luck to any upcoming launches :)

Julia Zakharova

@cryptosymposium Tasos, youโ€™re doing great! And itโ€™s so nice how calm you always are :)

Iโ€™m really happy to see the traffic results โ€” and even paying users, thatโ€™s amazing! Thanks for sharing that.
Big respect for your thoughtful observations too

Tasos V

@julia_zakharova2 thank you Julia. Yeah i try to follow the ancient wisdom, stress only about what you can control. Which for me is building and sharing, for the rest of the world, is your choice :)

Congrats on the launch! This is a really great write up! I always love hearing about how a launch went for someone. I'm curious, is there anything you'd like to see changed or added for the launch experience? We're always open to feedback and looking for ways to improve!

Tasos V
@jakecrump thanks for the support Jake! i would say that a dedicated "comments notification" would be very good. what i mean by that is, during launch there is a ton of comments, and you can easily get lost or miss some. Somehow, load the latest on top. and after an hour put on top the ones that the Maker hasnt replied to make sure they dont go unnoticed. That would help me as a maker and the person who give feedback deserve an answer. everything is pretty smooth ๐Ÿ‘Œ

@cryptosymposium Great feedback! We actually have this built into the launch day dashboard, but maybe we're not highlighting it well enough. On your launch, you should see a button that says 'Dashboard' at the top (we also show a banner on your launch day on the homepage). That'll take you to your launch day dashboard which has a ton of information and one of the sections is called Comment Inbox. You'll see all the comments as they come in, reply to them, and mark them as read. It makes it super easy to keep on top of comments and make sure you don't miss any. Here's an example from a launch I did last week:

Dima Havryliuk

Tavos, congrats on the top 5 launch!! inspiring to see you starting with so not-so-big launch in 2020 and now getting in top 5!

Any tips on how to "Warm up" the audience before the launch? How did you find your target persona on ph?

excited to see your next launches! Also, your LinkedIn link seem to be broken, wanted to connect :)

Tasos V

@dima_havryliuk Hi Dima and thanks for the support. I did not warm up anybody to be honest. Just reached out to a few influencers/hunters (4 in total) here on PH. They have big communities so If they accept to launch with you you get exposure. I did not find my target persona on PH. I found them on Linkedin.

Dima Havryliuk

@cryptosymposium makes a lot of sense. thanks!

Launching soon!

Congrats! The numbers look great. Thank you so much for all the tips, about to launch soon and this helps! How was your experience post launch with user retention and engagement?

Tasos V

@sakshi_patil8 thanks for the support, and good luck to your upcoming launch. Ping me on the day to support ;) Well actually the numbers are increasing ! Right now, after the 24hr of the launch, the visits went from 1.6k to 2.6k and the users who signed up, literally doubled. And in total now I have 7 paid customers :)

sakshi patil
Launching soon!
@cryptosymposium that is awesome! thanks :)
Tasos V

@sakshi_patil8 glad to have helped. Good luck with your launch.

Matt El Mouktafi
Congrats and thanks for sharing ๐Ÿ™‚ Did you see an increase in visitor and sign up in the following days too or the impact stop at launch day ?
Tasos V

@melmouk hey Matt. We are 4 days in. And the visitors and signups have almost doubled. From 1.6k to almost 3k, and from 213 to 467. Paid users tho no.

Matt El Mouktafi
@cryptosymposium thanks for the feedback :) thatโ€™s pretty good number Do you think thereโ€™s not paid user because PH doesnโ€™t have your target audience, or itโ€™s more related to your product and sales funnel ?
Tasos V

@melmouk maybe it is both. Statistically speaking it should be a bit of both right? we need to remember that it is not PH's job to bring the right audience. It is just one channel, and you try it out. For example, I will reach out to those 460-500 people to see, how was the experience and from there I will iterate.

Dharpal Chauhan

The fact that you only spent a few days prepping but still hit top 5 says a lot about having a solid product and not over-optimizing the rest

Tasos V
@dharpal_chauhan yes probably. and still even if u do have a solid one. getting featured is still based on luck.
Hyuntak Lee

Congrats on your launch! Thanks for sharing the exact numbers. I've always wondered what a launch brings about to the product and the maker. I appreciate your honest sharing.

I'd like to learn from you about one thing - you said we should not waste time preparing launch. Then, when do you think is the point where it's time to just ship it? Do you have checklists/criteria for assessing how much I'm ready for the launch?

Tasos V
@hyuntak_lee thanks for the support. honestly for a launch of a product you need to answer one question..." is the product solving the problem?" if the answer is yes, ship it. Even if the ui looks like an app from Netscape ages ๐Ÿ˜…
Hyuntak Lee

@cryptosymposium Clear principle. Thank you for your teaching, I'll always keep that in mind!

Mark Cho

Thank you for your advice! I will keep that in mind. Also congrats on your successful launch!

Tasos V
@chohchmark thank you for the support !
