Budibase is everything you need to build internal tools and automate workflows - coding is optional. We’re excited to announce Budibase 2.0, allowing users to build their own custom components and datasources.
Really cool to see Budibase grow! 👏
I had a call with Mike last year where I mentioned that the thing keeping me from using Budibase (instead of Coda, which I ended up using) was that there was no way to generate a document. For example, I might have invoicing details (invoice items, customer address, etc.) in a database, but I could not use that to generate a PDF invoice in Budibase.
Has that feature (i.e. document generation) been added ?makers
I don’t see it in the feature list…
Congrats on the launch. The interface looks great. We use retool extensively within our team. What would you guys say are the things that would make it worthwhile for us to switch? Regardless, I'm personally going to give it a try.
@abhishek1846 There are a number of reasons, but the main ones are:
- budibase is a lot easier and coding is optional
- budibase has its own automation section
- budibase can generate fully-working crud apps from your data
- budibase is open source!
@joe_johnston1 Thanks for the response. Developers would really appreciate the open source aspect. Point 3 and 4 seems very interesting for the general team.
@abhishek1846 I'll add that budibase is lightweight and build for performance from the ground up. You'll see a considerable difference in performance between the apps budibase produces and other apps.
Hey Product Hunt 👋 ,
Budibase founder here. We’re super excited to release Budibase 2.0 to everyone and share it with the PH community today. Thanks Ben for the hunt ❤️!
About 10 months ago, we released Budibase 1.0 on Product Hunt. The support from the PH community was overwhelming and helped share what the company is today. Since the 1.0 PH launch, 40,000 companies have used Budibase , and we have shipped several features to make it easier and faster to build your own tools:
- Rest API connector for building tools on top of APIs
- Multiple components: Rich text component, Map component, new table component, and many more.
- Multiple datasources: Snowflake, Firestore, Airtable, and more.
- Public API for using Budibase as a backend and extending apps
Today we're launching Budibase 2.0 - and yes, you can build your own custom components! Budibase 2.0 brings it all together: extensibility, scalability, education, and community. It’s always been our mission to build a platform that sparked joy in users, is accessible to everyone, and is extensible - I believe we’ve finally delivered. We think you'll love it! Features include:
- 🎨 Custom components for users that need extra customization.
- 🤖 Custom datasources for pulling in data from anywhere.
- 🔌 Plugins repository for sourcing and sharing custom plugins.
- 🧑🤝🧑 User groups for scaling user management and onboarding.
- 🎓 Budibase university for help getting started.
- 👾 Discord channel for interacting with the Budibase community.

Step into @budibase a few weeks later the launch of the 1.0 release and just got the right tool at the right time!
I have been using it on a project for almost 6 months and I can say it helped me reach an actual functioning prototype in no time. I could share each step with the stakeholders and refine it in an iterative process saving hours and money in developing the internal tool we needed!
@budibase@udeisconsulting Ohhh this is awesome. You're almost a Budibase OG. Your feedback is spot on and exactly why we created Budibase - the development process use to be so long and one-sided - now all stackholders can get involved quicker.
Thank you for taking the time to support us!
I've been following Budibase since the beginning and so it's great to see v2 launched and rocking it. When you consider the price of the competition, Budibase's pricing is very fair and workable especially for smaller teams and/or usage. Couple that with the Open Source version, it's hard not to consider adding Budibase to your NoCode toolbelt. It looks like I'll be spinning up a Digital Ocean droplet to install v2 and to dive deeper. Congrats @joe_johnston1 — let's get you to #1
@theflowagency Thank you @theflowagency . We've worked hard on our pricing. It's been a while since i used DO, but a lot of users love it and it's a great, simple option for Budibase.
Straight to the top, #1 !!!!
@ashrahman Hey Ash! Thanks for the support.
Yes, Budibase is an alternative to Retool. We take a very different approach.
- Coding is optional in Budibase
- You can extend Budibase by adding both custom UI components AND data sources
- Budibase is opensource
- Budibase ships with an automation platform

We've tried lots of #nocode tools and Budibase is by far the most bang for the buck! Its open source and hackable and can be integrated with other tools to fill the gaps.
The current version fills many of the earlier issues and the flexibility introduced by the design choices of the dev team make it a great choice particularly for building business apps.
@n0c0de1 you've genuinely been a huge support from the start, and I wholeheartedly mean this when I say, thank you. You're a true ambassador for the no-code movement.
Hey guys,
I work at Budibase, and have recently been reviewing the custom component and datasource submissions. Feel free to reach out on discord if you need any help!

Hi Budibase team, just wanted to drop a quick thank you! I've been using Budibase a lot recently, for all these "this should be an app, but it doesn't warrant the effort of building one completely from scratch" kind of scenarios. Really appreciate you keeping things open source at the core even as monetization becomes more of a focus.
The one thing that would make me even happier is support for Umlauts in app names for us pesky Germans (using app names such as "Verträge" currently throws an "App name must be letters, numbers and spaces only" error).
@mutedjam Thanks Tom. Your praise and feedback means a lot. Supporting other languages is a must for us, as one of our core values is accessibility. I'm going to share your feedback with the team today. Thanks!
This looks super interesting, I'm curious to see how you will tackle the needs of users that are just stuck at that divide between no-code and, well, 'code'.
@royjacobs We live by 2 mantras:
1. Simple by default. Anyone can build apps with a nocode experience
2. Best-in-class extensibility. It's a joy to build plugins against, when you need full code
Thank you!
When it comes to the cloud, there are quite a few choices when you want to build a Database-driven application. But when it comes to on-prem, it's like a desert. This is what shocked me (in a good way) about Budibase. I will be implementing an on-prem solution soon using Budibase. Thus far, as I have been using it, it's really a great tool.
@emile_ackbarali it's so important to have a quality on-prem solution for any product that connects to your databases and internal APIs. Nobody wants to expose their database to the public internet.
Thank you for your support!
I created mvp for our startup (https://procureit.ai) on budibase. I didn’t have any coding knowledge, so budibase helped. The team was extremely supportive and jumped in whenever i needed help. Good work. I’d love to see you succeed.
Special shout out to melohagan, martin and Michael for the help.
