Been waiting a long long time for v2 of this app! Super excited for it to finally launch — I use it every day!

Hi everybody! Francesco and Fabrizio here, we can’t quite believe we’re finally shipping the first major update to Boxy! It’s an email client powered by Inbox by Gmail, initially launched here on Product Hunt in late 2015. Me and @linuz90 have been working on it for quite a long time, and it features a completely redesigned interface, a revamped multi-account system with a new Status Bar menu, new features and themes, and lots and lots of improvements and fixes. On top of that, it’s a free update for exsisting users! 🙌 We’re so excited to finally put Boxy 2 out there, and we can’t wait to know what you think! Thanks @chrismessina for hunting us (again!) and thanks so much to our hundreds of beta testers for their invaluable help 🙏 And since we’re also really grateful to the Product Hunt community for an awesome initial launch in 2015, here are 10 coupon codes to download the app for free. 63FJWNW4TYP3 9KYT6HE3H6P4 PN4XHN7JXT9F AHYAKXMM77NW 3FEHA9LN4WMA 9XYA3T4YFEAP 3YFL79MWTA7J HTJJ9ALXLXME ARRA6EPR6LRL 4YRT6EYKPNN9 We’re also excited to launch Boxy for the first time on on Setapp, an innovative platform that applies the Netflix model to the app store. Enjoy the update!

@linuz90 @chrismessina @frankdilo I'll save you time – all codes are gone :)

@linuz90 @chrismessina @frankdilo Any chance of a trial?

@linuz90 @chrismessina @frankdilo Well shucks, missed out on that one. Any trials available? I'd like to see how it compares to WMail.

Can you explain a bit how the multiple account system works? One of my only complaints about the Boxy beta has been the way it deals with multiple accounts. I don't like the "new windows" setup. Does V2 handle this more like traditional inboxes with some sort of meta filter? I can't really tell by the screenshot. I downloaded the beta when you first launched on PH, and check out each new version, but other folks snatched the codes too fast for me! Thanks!

Only 1 question to decide about your product. Do you fix email signature problem in inbox? (We just want it to work like in gmail)
Vincent Giersch
I'm not really convinced by this app (yet): the experience really feels like a regular webpage with not so much value & features on the top. The multi accounts is 2 windows or a single windows with Cmd+X, I was expecting some tabs with the number of unread emails or something similar, right now it's little cumbersome to use. To receive notifications, the app requests a full access to the GMail accounts, are the notifications handled by the app itself, or processed on server side?
Fabrizio Rinaldi
@gierschv everything is handled locally, no server involved. @frankdilo can you give you more details on that. Also, our minimalistic approach doesn’t necessarily mean that the app is simple, quite the opposite since the technical side is getting more complex, while keeping the design essential and polished – an increasingly complex task given that the interface is styled through thousands of CSS rules now. That being said, we totally understand this app is not for everyone, and we’re still planning to add features that might accommodate more users. Thanks for your feedback!

Any way to develop an "All inboxes" feature? They currently have this on the Android app and it is a glorious and super helpful feature. Or do we pray for mother Google to build on the web?

I think i'l go back with Polymail because of the performances issues.

Pros:

The best Gmail Inbox Client • Clean interface • Multiple separated accounts

Cons:

Slow performances when in front (75%-100%) • Takes a lot of memory (600mb minimum)

I've been using Boxy 1 for over a year, and I love it. I've tried a whole bunch of other email clients, including Mailplane, Polymail, Airmail and the stock Mail app, and none of them have been able to offer robust email functionality alongside Google Inbox's slick and user friendly design the way Boxy does. I also really appreciate the free upgrade to v2 for v1 users. Cheers Francesco and Fabrizio! You guys rock!
Steven Law
Looks great guys, thanks for the find. Just a pity there aren't 10 grateful members on PH today who already redeemed the codes!

I've been wanting something like this ever since I got my Mac last month, didn't know it existed! Purchased!

Much more beautiful than Kiwi for Gmail, which is what I use. Looking forward to trying the improved multi-account system on this version! And I add my +1 to integrating more Google services (Calendar, GSuite). Rock solid update overall! Congrats on shipping!!
Daniel Salazar
It is a real amazing app, hope they some day integrate Google Calendar and Drive to easily access it all from within one app.

Hands down my favorite gmail inbox app. The only one that has stood the test of time staying installed through my periodic MAC app clean-outs :-). Love that you recognized the need for a desktop app without dramatically overhauling Google’s inbox UI concept. Since Boxy is only on desktop, that gives me a consistent UI experience managing email across desktop, tablet and mobile (using native inbox app on mobile/tablet, boxy on MAC) with Boxy. Downloaded the new version and excited to play around with it.
Morgan Holland

Looking forward to seeing what Boxy comes out with next!

Pros:

Fast, clean view of Gmail

Cons:

Would love to have the option of integrating more Google services (Calendar, Keep)

I love the inbox overall.. but the one issue I am having is when I try enabling push notifications the application crashes. I am running macos high sierra.

I've been using Boxy2 for 2 days, but it's a no-go for me. The app has many bugs and isn't very reliable. I am working with 4 G Suite accounts. Switching between them is a pain, because I am seeing 2-4 seconds of loading screen every time. App is crashing very often when switching between accounts (I am experiencing crashes every 1-2 hours of work) It's hard to work with attachments, when you are signed into 4 accounts. When you try to download an attachment, new tab in browser is being opened. But since you're also signed into 4 accounts on Google Drive, there's a permission problem and you can't download the attachment. There are more cons caused by design and logic - example: you need to keep separate contact lists for each account. Boxy2 may be perfect when you're working with just one G Suite account. If you work on multiple accounts - you'll be more frustrated than productive ;) I am going back to Spark. Oh, and it's sad there's no trial. It looks like I've just wasted money just to convince myself that this app is not for me.

Great app, I have been using it since initial launch. Great update as well! I like the pure White interface. Minor bug though: emails always return back to top when scrolled down while enlarged to full screen via button.
Fabrizio Rinaldi
@lichtspektrum thanks a lot, really glad you like the White Theme! It’s my favorite as well. We’ll look into that bug 👀

Code is poetry.

Pros:

Stand alone mail client for Gmail, manages different accounts, very intuitive and clean.

Cons:

None

Jakub Pomykała
Is it still just a web browser like previous version?
Francesco Di Lorenzo
@jakub_pomykala Yes it is! We're proud to have build a system that makes the webview become much more than that. Here the details for those interested https://medium.com/@getboxy/the-...

The only thing new I saw is the markdown feature which is nice.

However everything else it's the same... Just the regular app with custom CSS styles.

Pros:

Not sure. I guess the markdown feature.

Cons:

It just looks like I payed $4.99 to use the regular Inbox by clicking on an icon on my Dock.
