Time Tracking for Freelancers — A simple, fully integrated time tracker for freelancers

Hi everyone, Bonsai team here, After weeks of research and prototyping, we're very excited to release the first version of our Bonsai time tracker. The product looks extremely cool and useful, might fit also for small-medium company needs, but what about pricing?

Glad to see this, I use bonsai for my invoicing and I've been really struggling to find a good free time tracking tool. I was using timely which was amazing but they started charging and I can't afford it right now. I'm sure if the Bonsai time tracking tool is anything like their other stuff it's great. Any plans for a desktop version? I don't like having to log into a browser to track my time.

@mattbrown how does the Bonsai experience work for someone who charges weekly or per project, but wants time tracking to build a better understanding of how long projects take? Can you track time per project without using an hourly rate, or sending timesheets to the client?

Used Bonsai for the last 4-5 projects and I'm well impressed. This time tracker is a solid upgrade. Now I don't have to fiddle with toggle and use two different apps. Invoicing and tracking time are usually the worst bit about freelancing, this is a game changer for the little guy. Kudos and thank you Bonsai.

Thank you guys for the great product! I've just started to use Bonsai and I'm really enjoying the experience. I have 2 suggestions for the time tracking: The icon before the time(that looks like a start/stop button) on the navigation menu could be clickable. It fools me almost every time I got an interruption and have to stop or start the timer. I click on it thinking it will stop/start the timer and it toggles the ".timetracking-pane". I know, that big red "PAUSE TIMER" button below it should really catch my eye, but I still click on that icon. Maybe is the animation, the visual hierarchy or the icon design. Oh, and making it clickable could work when the time tracking pane is hidden as well. You could also change the favicon when the timer is running. That timer on the tab title is cool(could be distracting sometimes), but people like me who use it as a 'pinned tab' don't see it running. I've worked sometimes thinking the timer was running when it wasn't. I think the toggl.com app changes the favicon when is active, it seems a small thing but is really helpful. Thank you again for making us happy freelancers 😄

Hi Matt! It's a great service for freelancers. We are working with freelancers as you are and we know how to difficult to track time for them. You are doing an amazing job!

I don't see pricing and trying to find it via chat etc... leads to signing up without telling me the pricing? Not very transparent on pricing or features - am I missing something? Also, no one cares about a free trial. That is simply a way to get my email forever but i just use burner emails.

What if you pay Freelancers in terms of output not time? how do you account for it?

Great idea in this software I am a freelancer and working on my new easy tracking website project and this software will be very helpful for me.
