I was hugely impressed with this email course. Even if you've done a bit of blogging before, it's well worth signing up and getting tips from Monica!
Monica Lent
@mattcrail Thanks so much Matthew, that's really kind. I'm glad you found the course and tips worthwhile!

Hey everyone! I'm super excited to launch my first product on Product Hunt: Blogging for Devs. Blogging helped my career *so much* as a developer and maker. (Last year it even helped me fund my transition to building my own products full-time.) In the meantime, a lot of my friends in tech started asking me for advice about SEO, growing their email lists, and writing resonant articles. What I realized is that lots of developers โ€” whether individual contributors, makers, managers, or founders โ€” could benefit massively from blogging... If only the tools and techniques were tailored for them (instead of the typical "marketing" angle). That's why I started Blogging for Devs as a free email course and weekly newsletter. It was just meant to be my "pandemic side project". But I was totally blown away when over 1,250 people signed up in the first two weeks ๐Ÿ™€ It's been growing mostly by word-of-mouth since then. Besides the free 7-day email course, the project has expanded into a weekly newsletter, a blog with interviews and original articles, plus a growing community of devs who blog. The subscribers are super creative, driven, and already publishing amazing articles. I'm really excited to be on Product Hunt today! I'll be hanging out to answer any questions and hear your feedback and ideas. Thanks so much!

@dsarkar Thanks Debรกjit!
Josef Strzibny
Love the landing page design Monica! You got me interested :). I have an important question though, do you track your email subscribers (like open rates, clicks, etc.)? I am more privacy oriented and I find this information is missing on the page.
Monica Lent
@strzibnyj Hey Josef, thanks for the comment. I use ConvertKit so yes, those things are tracked automatically. AFAIK there's no way to opt out, sorry :(
Kristian Freeman

I am not a dev but can totally see the value @monicalent. I think every web and app dev should know how her/his work impacts SEO and overall online marketing. It will make them a better dev.
Monica Lent
@vishal_srivastava3 Agree! And even more powerful when they can harness those techniques for their own projects!
Vishal Srivastava
@monicalent Can you help me improve my ProductHunt launch scheduled for next week? It's a collection of 250+ remote work resources. https://www.producthunt.com/post...

Monica Lent

Congrats on the launch @monicalent! I was one of the sign-ups when you launched the course and albeit not being a dev, thoroughly enjoyed the series and your writing! You deserve the hype! :)

Sebastien Lorber
While not totally new to SEO, I liked this course and definitively learned a few useful things. I also like the community Monica has built to discuss seo/marketing topics.
Monica Lent
@sebastienlorber Thanks so much Sebastian! It's been great having you in the community.

Monica is thoughtful, helpful, caring and experienced. I'm not sure I can put into words how much I've benefited from her wisdom. This course is amazing - you won't regret it. Congrats on the launch @monicalent!
Monica Lent
@irreverentmike1 Wow Mike, that is so kind of you. It makes me really glad to hear that you got something useful out of our chats. Hope to hear more about what you're up to lately sometime soon!

I've been blogging for a long time on software engineering. Even so, I really liked this course. Monica really dug herself into the weeds on not just how to get started, but also on how to grow the audience of your blog, depending on what you're after (e.g. standing out for a certain technology). I picked up a bunch of useful tools and it's great to see this launch on PH. I recommend it!
Monica Lent
@gorosz Thank you so much Gergely, it really means a lot coming from someone with such a successful blog! ^_^
Liam Mclaney
Hey Monica, I can only echo the great comments you've already received. Your newsletter is great and honestly one of the only newsletters that I've engaged with - your writing style and content is always enjoyable and useful. Good luck with the project!
Monica Lent
@tidze Ah Liam I was just drafting a reply to you last night! Thanks so much for the kind feedback, it means a lot, really. I'll be on the lookout for your launch when it's time :)
Mister Bruce
Great newsletter. Like seriously, I read a lot of them between building. This is way up there. Itโ€™s one thing to be jammed full of tips. Itโ€™s another to have a writing style that is warm, succinct and engaging. You get both with Monicaโ€™s content. (Also, the link building post was epic. Thank you).
Monica Lent
@thedudlian Your feedback on my writing is so kind, thank you ๐Ÿ˜ญ I'm also thrilled you liked the link building article. I think I gained a few gray hairs while writing it ๐Ÿ˜‚
Joe Previte
Even though I've being blogging for a while, I still learned a lot from Monica's course. You don't see a lot of free email courses out there with high quality content for developers. I guarantee you'll learn a thing or two if you sign up. I learned a few handy tips about SEO that I plan to apply to my personal blog! Beyond that, her writing style is unique. She knows how to weave in her own experiences and real-life examples in a way that makes the content approachable for all levels of folks. Highly recommend you sign up before she realizes this should be a paid course ๐Ÿ˜‰
Monica Lent
@jsjoeio Thanks so much, Joe! I'm always grateful for your feedback :)
A-P Koponen
"Blogging for Devs" is one of the few newsletters that I actually want to read in my inbox. The topics are highly interesting and the quality of the content is great! Monica clearly puts a lot of effort into the emails.
Monica Lent
@apkoponen I am so honored to hear that, thank you! It makes me really happy that the quality and effort comes across. Thanks for sharing your feedback ๐Ÿ˜Š
Johnny Perdomo
This really is an amazing course. I actually never opt in to email courses, and when I do I usually never read them. But I think this course resonates with so many people is because itโ€™s actually solving a real problem... when youโ€™re a solo founder who spends most his time trying to design and create quality code, you kind of neglect marketing and have no idea how to even write an article. Monica also takes a personal interest in her readers, when I emailed her asking for help she replied and blew me away by how much time and effort i noticed she put into her reply. This is how you engage with an email list, hands down! Even if youโ€™re not a dev, I think you can learn a lot about how Monica engages with her readers. Which is a really great skill to have if youโ€™re trying to sell software.
Monica Lent
@johnny_perdomo Omg Johnny thanks so much for leaving such a detailed review! That is so nice of you ๐Ÿ’› Also I saw ChimpCharge launch yesterday and upvote you guys :) Congrats on that, I would love to hear how it went for you in our next email exchange.
Bubble
Hey! Great project, just wondering, where do users usually write their blogs? Is it on a platform like medium or can they do it on your website?
Monica Lent
@bubbleb2b Hey! Thanks for the comment. No, people can't host their blogs on my platform. I actually encourage them to use their own domain name so they keep the benefit of any backlinks, and set up the canonical URL properly before considering syndication. Anecdotally, most people seem to self-host using static site generators (probably because a lot of subscribers come from a web development background like me). But plenty of people also post on Dev.to, a bit of Medium, and some on Hashnode. Did that answer your question? I'm not sure where they self-host, I'd imagine it's places like Zeit or Netlify though.
Dylan Wilson
Monica has a really great writing style that makes her newsletter great to read. It's one of the few newsletters I don't skip over when my inbox is full.
Monica Lent
@dylan_wilson Thank you, Dylan! I really appreciate you sharing the newsletter in indie hackers and now your comment here as well ^_^
