Hello everyone! I'm excited to tell you about BearyStronk, a casual fitness app that I hope will make a small positive difference in your health as you build your dream products. Why I made this As life gets busier I've found it hard to have a consistent workout routine and so have gotten by just squeezing in scattered exercise daily e.g. push-ups or sit-ups. It seems to be a common pattern amongst friends and colleagues so I made this to help guide folks who might not have a structured workout routine but would still like to try and exercise daily. How will it help The app focuses on reducing procrastination stemming from not knowing what to do, by offering short format workouts which can be paused / resumed for pockets of free time throughout the day e.g. 12 push-ups now but continue workout later. Where more time can be committed, you can also plan a full week of custom workouts or take on a 1 - 4 week challenge. The goal is not to complete everything but to try and do something at least! What makes it unique BearyStronk prioritises the solo experience but has also support for proper group challenges so that you can some fun competing with your family, friends and colleagues. The app starts out light and casual with silly things like shareable certificates when you complete challenges but is also suitable for users with serious longer term goals with visible physical changes. You can create and store progress pictures where privacy is of top concern here - progress pictures taken with the app are not available for viewing in your default gallery app, are blurred by default to reduce oopsie situations and never leave your phone (exception - read public journals below). Progress pictures are: 1. Stored locally in your phone, not backed up to our servers by default 2. Can be stitched into side by side comparison pictures 3. Can be organised into albums for specific topic / body part organisation 4. Can be shared entirely as a fitness transformation journey as a mini blog page when marked explicitly to be public Check out the app store links for a full list of features such as workout mode, exercise logs etc. Thank you for reading I hope this small preview of what you can do with the app interests you and that you would take some time to try it out as I'd love to get some feedback to make it even better. Please let me know if there are any questions I can help with but otherwise take care of your health as you hustle to deliver :)

@kjosephabraham Thank you for your support! The greatest surprise has probably that the SQLite version on devices might not be the same for both iOS and Android so relying on certain features led to some issues discovered only during cross platform testing. But also the positive surprise has been that Flutter is really nice to work with especially when you don't really have advanced features needing deep native integrations :)
klin
@a_zelenkov Thank you for your support! I'll be looking at continuing to improve this so please try out the app when you can to see how it's evolved :)

@bearystronk Thank you for sharing BearyStronk! It's great to see an app designed to help people fit exercise into their busy schedules. I appreciate the focus on flexibility and privacy, especially with the progress pictures feature. I'm curious about how you find the balance between keeping the app light-hearted and casual while still providing the structure needed for users who might want more guidance in their fitness journey. Your insights could really help improve the app for everyone!
klin
@zephyrion Thanks for the question! At this moment I'm trying to keep the structure flexible so it can be easy to get started but also offer more suitable customisation for more advanced users. The lightheartedness probably helps more with the former so I tend to splash it more with introductions rather than deeper menus which hopefully helps keep that balance you mentioned. Truth be told I'm still watching how users are building habits using the app and then using that data to tune features / UI to make the app more useful, shall update if i find any key points that would be useful.

Excited to try BearyStronk, @klin! The flexibility of short workouts fits my life perfectly. The group challenges sound like a great way to stay motivated with friends. Any chance you’ll be adding nutrition tips or meal plans in the future to complement the fitness routines?
klin
@klin @renchu_song Thank you for the feedback! Nutrition is surely a big part of the overall health picture and can make a larger difference for progress pictures but I will aim to improve the exercise portion before moving on as I really want to do it well :) All the best for your upcoming launch!

How to help fitness users stick to it? I used some fitness software, with a sustained period of time, but if the middle missed, or delayed a few times, it is easy to stick to it

Hey klin, How does BearyStronk help users gradually increase their fitness level over time? Are there features to keep people motivated and engaged long-term? Congrats on the launch!
klin
@kyrylosilin Thanks for taking the time to ask these questions! At the moment it's up to the user to edit workouts and increase either the repetitions or add more exercises, but based on suggestions given I'm looking into adding a simple prompt for increasing the values mentioned above with one-click. Progress pictures were originally one of the long term features as it does require quite a bit of time to see significant progress but I have also been asked to include more social features like sharing of workouts, deeper interactions with others which might all help bring people back :) Did you have any particular suggestions or ideas you'd like to see?
toniko
This app sounds super convenient for fitting in workouts throughout the day! Can’t wait to try BearyStronk and see how it fits into my busy schedule. Congrats on the launch!
klin
@toniko Thanks a lot for checking it out and let me know if you have any suggestions on how to make it better :)
Kate Prasniak
Looks fun! It would be great if it could integrate with social networks right away.
klin
@kate_prasniak Thanks for your feedback! I was a bit cautious in doing this immediately as it could raise concerns on the progress picture portion which is meant to be really private, but I'm really encouraged by your suggestion so I shall take a closer look at how to make that available selectively :)
Star Boat
Hey @bearystronk! BearyStronk sounds like the perfect solution for those of us who struggle to fit fitness into our hectic lives. It’s like trying to find time to cook a proper meal when takeout is so easy! With short workouts that can be done in between tasks, you’re making it so much easier to prioritize health without the overwhelm. Can’t wait to try it out and challenge some friends! 💪🐻
klin
@star_boat Thanks so much for your positive feedback and I hope you'll have fun with your friends! Let me know if I can make it any better and I'll be glad to explore those areas :)
Fredrick Momanyi
Now this is something I would love to try out! Good work guys...

Sure looks like a fitness app made for couch potatoes, the idea of simple routines is cool, but I'm skeptical if such short workouts will make any real difference, innovation often feels half-baked without a deeper commitment to quality, would love to hear others' thoughts.
klin
@techinnovatorevp Thanks for your feedback! The app could possibly be improved by 'growing together' with the user in offering harder or longer routines as the user returned and successfully completed previous ones. Do you think that might make a bigger difference in the longer term? If you have any other thoughts on making it feel less trifling I'd love to explore those further :)
Lee
So we have another fitness app right, I get the idea of home routines and challenges with friends, but are we really addressing the root issue of people not wanting to work out or is this just another app they’ll download and forget in a week, looks fun but unless it can truly motivate people beyond the initial excitement its just more digital clutter, curious to see if anyone disagrees
klin
@bizgrowthleader Thanks for your thoughts! My own thoughts to this are that if someone has even a tiny bit of motivation than the app should somehow amplify that repeatedly for that user's journey to be successful. The app's angle on this is to try and build out a habit of doing something / anything initially and expand on top of that but I'm sure it can be better. Do you have any suggestions on how to make it more useful or sticky so that it can really make a positive difference to users? I'd love to explore more techniques and ways of presenting motivational hooks to bring users back for a longer term, even if it's just general advise for building better apps rather than specific to BearyStronk.

BearyStronk sounds like an absolute game-changer for those of us who can't always make it to the gym! The short-format workouts that fit into our busy schedules are a brilliant idea, @bearystronk . I love the idea of group challenges to keep motivation high.

So, I get the idea of this fitness app, but isn't it just another home workout thing, what makes it different from the others, also how about some more advanced routines for those who want to push a bit further? I'd be curious to see a community feature or something where people can share their own workouts and progress, what do others think on this?
klin
@philantrofoot Thanks for your feedback! The initial thought was to make it really simple so others could get started with familiar exercises but the ask for more advanced routines seems to have come up in a few other comments as well so you're definitely on to something. I'll explore how I can segregate different levels of fitness to make this a bit more progressive. I really like your idea of sharing workouts, it will surely bring an element of variation as well so others can take inspiration from them. Will definitely be adding this as a feature soon so look out for i!
Brian McCollum
Sounds interesting but not sure how effective home routines are without the right guidance feels like anyone can make an app with random workouts it's not a gym replacement, guess we'll see how it does 🚀
klin
@agileexec20 Thanks for your feedback! Indeed it can't be a gym replacement unless the correct workouts get loaded and tailored to a particular user. It can probably function as an accessory companion to more structured routines already being followed e.g. non gym days, filler exercises for body weight workouts or just a straight-up fun thing to do with friends via the challenges. Another area of exploration is integration with Google's Gemini to ask a user questions on their goals and then transforming that into a proper gym routine but I still have some ways to go in getting it to play nice with the existing app. I'll update if I get something decent in place to address your thoughts :)
Nifal Adam
Love the idea of challenging friends to get fit without ever leaving the comfort of my den. Here's to hoping the workouts are as 'pawsome' as they sound! 🐻💪. Good Luck:)
klin
@nifal_adam2 Thank you for your supportive and hilarious comment! I certainly do hope it helps and that you'll be 'beary' strong in no time :)

Honestly, it's a cool idea but not seeing much new here, reminds me a lot of stuff like Nike Training Club or 7 Minute Workout, they also offer quick at-home routines and challenges, privacy on progress pics is nice tho, how about adding a feature to sync with smartwatches or fitness trackers, could make it more appealing, also, why not add more interactive or gamified elements to keep folks engaged?
klin
@adhimediaguru Thanks for your feedback! I'll take a closer look at Nike Training Club and 7 Minute Workout to get a better sense of how to differentiate this meaningfully which might also give me an idea of how to sync with smartwatches / fitness trackers. Having a tighter integration to these devices might also help with user retention which would then form a positive loop for exercising and improving. Loving your suggestions so far, did you also have any specific thoughts on what might be gamified element? Group challenges do offer a tiny bit of that but only within that sub-group so I'll have a deeper think about what might be something fun at the community level :)
Jean-Baptiste
Hey there, I get that you're aiming for fitness on the go, but I'm wondering if users might get bored with the simpler routines, also is there a way to make it more competitive to keep folks engaged, maybe more real-time leaderboards or something?
klin
@aitrainerjb Thanks for your feedback! For longer term usage I'd definitely agree with you and echoes some sentiment from other comments as well. An idea I had filed away for later on was to allow users to share their workouts such that other users could try them out - that might make it more interactive as workout creators could see that other users were attempting their routine and also add more variety into what was available in the app today. Do you think that might be something worth looking into? The real-time leaderboards are a great idea! Was there a particular aspect you thought they might want to compete on e.g. number of workouts completed, exercises done? A form of leaderboards currently only exist in group challenges but I'll brainstorm some variation where it might make sense for the general community as well :)
Daniel
I get the whole idea of being too busy for gym time but this app almost feels like it's trying too hard to be everything at once, the group challenge bit is cool but do people really want to get shareable certificates for doing push-ups, also, the privacy with progress pictures sounds good but I can't help but wonder if that's enough to make folks switch from what they're already used to.
klin
@danielinmarketing Thanks for the feedback! I'm working through the anonymous analytics of active users and making a list of what can be pruned to focus the purpose of the app more, especially if it appears to be doing too much which probably confuses or overwhelms. The certificates are a tiny humor feature that I'll try to dial down, though the focus was really to highlight the percentage completion and consecutive days of the working out for the challenge which are the tough bits. Your other point on displaying enough value for switching to this is probably why I ended up adding too many accessory features, will definitely focus on refining it more :)
julien
I get that you're aiming for quick and easy but honestly this feels way too basic and boring, who wants to do 12 push-ups here and there, if I want real results I need something more challenging, also not sure how secure those progress pics are, feels risky
klin
@acheteur01 Thanks for the feedback! When you create new workouts you can customise your own exercises and even add new ones that are not there, especially if you have a particular routine you'd like to try. The app then uses exercises from available workouts to suggest random ones so hopefully that makes your own setup more challenging than the initial downloaded version. There will always be that element of basic-ness to it though due to what you've mentioned but I'll look at how to make it better :) Regarding progress pictures you're right to be cautious as they tend to capture very intimate parts of ourselves that we might not ever be ready to share with others. The application directory's is stored locally in your phone which is not accessible by other apps and will never be uploaded unless you make them public in an album (which also warns you before you do it). The downside is that if you accidentally wipe your phone or uninstall the app you'll lose the captured progress pictures but that's preferable in this situation. If you have suggestions that will help you feel more reassured please let me know and I'll be sure to explore those!
