Beam — Encrypted router protecting your data, location and devices

Beam is a router that provides more than just WiFi, it encrypts all of your information so your internet provider can't see what you're doing and services can't track you. It protects all the devices in your home from threats online and keeps your physical location hidden so you can access any part of the internet, from anywhere in the world.

I just compared forcefield speeds to protonvpn from my apartment in Cyberjaya, KL, Malaysia. Without VPN I get 100mbps, with ProtonVPN I get 95mbps, with Forcefield I got 22mbps. As such, I have no desire to use forcefield - however both beam and flter are interesting to me to use with ProtonVPN. Is the get paid for hosting a node option only available to Forcefield users? How does that feature work exactly? Is it a beam feature or a forcefield feature? Given the speed difference between ProtonVPN and Forcefield, I wonder if I would get max speeds anyway with just Flter. All in all. Seems I will be waiting for Eero to come out with VPN support.

Privacy is one of THE hottest topics right now. And so here’s a product that we should all have in our homes and offices. I have been using Flter https://www.producthunt.com/post... (the product’s predecessor) for almost 9 months now and can vouch for it’s incredible simplicity and reliability. I’ve been running it 24/7 as a second wifi hotspot at home, connecting Philips Hue bulbs, wifi-enabled plug sockets, games consoles, phones and the like - all to a separate wifi network running a VPN & adblocker underneath. The experience has been great, switching location from within the smartphone app, enabling/disabling the ad blocker too, with the only limiting factor having been network speeds (up & down). It was by no means slow, but I gather Beam will make any bottleneck for fibre broadband a thing of the past, whilst also offering tech that effectively makes it future-proof. Super excited to test out this new unit and get my hands on one in the coming months. And best of all, there’s a tidy discount I gather for all of us when pre-ordering today.

@david_west can you do a youtube video of your flter setup - can't seem to find any on Youtube. I'm particularly interested in having Flter either replace my router (connect it directly to the modem and not use another router), or have Flter go between the modem and an eero network.

Why would you need to buy a 200+ dollar router when VPN support is fairly common functionality on most relatively new routers? I think fundamentally the only benefit is a user requires less knowledge to set it up? 🤷‍♂️
Evil Pechenka
@sam_ayres This is absolutely not the case, most routers do not support a VPN client at all, only a VPN server. To fully configure the client, you often need to install ddwrt / openwrt, and then configure them. The average user cannot cope with such a task.

The hardware looks cool, but this appears to require using their VPN service. A VPN is only as good as the juristiction they're located in, the specific logging policies (traffic, DNS requests, timestamps, bandwidth, IP addresses), their demonstrated activism/philosophies, leak detection, obfuscation, encryption levels, ethics, etc. I wouldn't consider using this until it gets reviewed by https://thatoneprivacysite.net/v.... If their VPN service checks out, this looks like a pretty great product that I'd consider buying. But I'd prefer if it let me plug in any VPN service.
Peter DiPreta
@ecwilson Hey Eric. Beam will work with 3rd party VPN services just like our first device did, however, more advanced features like remote access and split tunneling won't be available since we aren't able to edit a 3rd party VPN configuration. Beam is also optimized for Forcefield and will be 2x to 3x faster than other services. Also we have purposefully designed our server software to not log any traffic through our network. If we were subpoenaed we would not have any information to give. You can read more about our privacy policy here: https://forcefield.passel.io/pri... and we're based in New York. Thanks!

Having used Flter previously, I am 100% convinced of Beam's capabilities and technology. It's going to be a powerful product and one that I could not be more excited about reviewing.

Pros:

Amazing controls, privacy and speeds

Cons:

Bring on October...

@david_west I think this product is based on scams. I and many others have supported this product. but everything has gone black and communication with the maker is not possible
Peter DiPreta
Hi everyone, as @david_west said this is our second Indiegogo campaign. We have a special launch day deal where you can save 40% off if you pre-order today. Happy to answer any questions!

PETER DI PRETA please complete the refund process AS PROMISED on Indiegogo for beam. Do you want to be remembered as Crowdfundings Bernie Madoff ??
Bahr Abdul Razzak

I don't think the product can "protect", the video promo might mislead people that this will protect them 100%

Pros:

Nice Firewall features,

Cons:

It's VPN on Router

Dude, you just need to configure it correctly. This is a very good router that does its job perfectly. At first, I did not understand how to configure it correctly, so it did not work very well. But this problem did not last long. I turned to https://techprojournal.com/best-... they suggested to me how best to configure it. I use this router and am very satisfied. My provider blocks some sites, as well as several types of connections (for example, P2P). This router helped me solve this problem.

This is scam This product only exists on paper. Many people have given money to make this project a success. But thanks to people like Peter DiPreta you can't trust anyone anymore

Having backed this project only for the company to "refund me" outside of indiegogo, a refund that never materialised - the refund instead was done so that I can no longer comment on the companies Indiegogo page. Peter, do you think you could have someone reply to me regarding both my faulty Flter (second failure now) and why exactly I was silenced for asking why the product was made available for cheaper on your own website than it was for the early backers on IG, even though we were told we would get the best deal for helping you, again, get a product of the ground. To be honest I hope you are happy with my money, I know now what kind of company Passel is, if you cannot perform basic customer services and instead choose to take someones money and when they ask you a question you remove their abilities to ask questions I think this shows a deeper issue. I hope your product works and people are happy. Lets not forget you are only seven months behind schedule, something people can accept if you give them a reason to keep believing in you. But, seemingly you would rather silence any questions, at least you have my $250. I'm sure I wont be the only persons money you took and wont be sending a product to either.
Gark777
I meant to say SINCE YOU ARE NOT PUTTING THIS PRODUCT OUT ANYMORE...I mean...over $500,000.00 you took from backers, Peter. That's not nice.
Gark777
Hey Peter, since you are putting this product out anymore, can I get my $399.00 back please?
David Duarte
Making the product?
