BarGlance began as a simple beta test in Charleston, SC, and quickly turned into a tech startup. We launched the 3rd version of the app in August of this year.

This sounds like a great tool for people trying to mingle after work, or for those trying to beat rush hour. I am curious to know about the privacy aspects of BarGlance. I noticed in your launch images that the faces of patrons are not blurred. Privacy laws vary geographically, so while using your app what standard format can users expect? Additionally, can BarGlance be used outside the continental U.S. - or is that an update we can look out for? :)
Justin Moss
@jacob_boston Thank you! Great questions. Privacy laws were something we addressed in the very beginning, even before building v1.0. You're right, laws vary region to region. We outline this in our privacy policy, which users must accept at signup. The content is also dynamic and auto-deletes on a regular basis (similar to Snapchat). Absolutely! We have a small presence in Europe currently. There's a bar request section on our website where users can request new spots to be added.

@steadyyeti Thanks for the reply! I was more referring to the people that get featured in the live stream bar cameras -- that are not signed up for the app. Bars would likely need to disclose that they are collaborated with your app somewhere for patrons to see. I'm wondering if you blurred faces to protect the privacy of patrons if you could have better turnout for bar signups & thus more traffic on the app.
Justin Moss
@jacob_boston Again, laws vary state to state. But the legal phrase for this is "reasonable expectation of privacy." The First Amendment protects the right to record and share information in public spaces. In most cases, you can film or live stream anything that is visible to the naked eye in a public place. Moreover, we never record video, there's no audio, and the resolution is turned down to avoid facial recognition.

Great job, @steadyyeti! Seeing that you put together something to help folks enjoy nights out with a little more knowledge is super cool.
Justin Moss
@rep_eat Thanks Luca!

This sounds like so much fun to use in a college town! Congrats :)
Justin Moss
@katie_clare_ Thank you! Gen Z is definitely our target audience; mainly because they're the ones who go out the most. Everyone has a vibe they're looking for. You can use BG to find a packed college bar, or you can use it to find a chill spot for a date or business meeting.

@steadyyeti Hey BarGlance! 🍻 Live stream bar cameras and crowd heat maps? That's a cool way to discover the vibe of bars in real-time! 🌟 How does BarGlance ensure the information stays current and accurate for users looking to plan a night out? Excited to explore the hottest spots! 🔥
Justin Moss
@aashish_peepra Hey Aashish! Good question. We use a combination of technologies including those you mentioned. We also promote in-app user content to show people what's going on around town. We geofence each location so that users can only post from the bar they're at. And user location data helps us populate the heat maps in real-time.
