Data quality is no longer a dream, it’s a workflow. In record time, Avo Inspector extracts your event schemas to let you build a tracking plan and systematically fix your data, one resolved issue at a time.
Hi Product Hunt! 👋
I’m Stef. Long-time (recovering) data practitioner and CEO at Avo. Today, together with my Co-Founder, Sölvi ( @logason ) we’re launching Avo Inspector to spark a message of hope with the data teams of the world!
Working with data is tough. If you’re involved with shipping analytics for a fast-evolving product, you know what I’m talking about. Governing data in an environment where data structures are constantly changing is nearly impossible. It leads to a huge mess and a vicious cycle of patching up broken data. It goes something like this:
- You desperately want a design system for your data, because every analytics release is creating more mess.
- But you can’t build a design system, because your messy data doesn’t fit into any kind of system…
- And on it goes...
That’s why we’re so excited to share Avo Inspector. With Avo Inspector, it’s finally possible to find and fix your data quality issues in minutes, not months. For many of us, this is a very personal (and triggering 😅) journey, because we’ve seen (and been part of) many data teams where we would have loved to have a solution like Avo. The alternative is a nightmare that involves months, years or an indefinite cycle of chasing our tails with ad-hoc solutions. These often started as a “quick SQL query” but always ended up spiraling into monstrous never-ending data quality projects. *Shudders*.
But those days are- thankfully - over. We’ve built Inspector to rescue us from the data mess, l Avo’s lovingly designed solution engineered for data practitioners, so they can:
✅ Find the most critical data quality issues, and stay alert to them
✅ Collaborate with your team on a fix
✅ Mark the issue as resolved for now, and be notified later if the issue regresses
✅ Or set them to ignored and move onto more pressing matters
Seeing all your data quality issues in one place, and building a baseline to better data is an achievement in itself. Inspector makes this happen by extracting your event schemas to let you build a tracking plan in under 89 seconds. From there, you have a detailed view of every possible inconsistency with your data design.
But observability is just the first step. It’s time to move into action mode—systematically triaging and resolving issues to get you to better data, faster. This is possible through Inspector’s collaborative workflow, where you can resolve issues, leave comments, and set up custom Slack alerts to monitor your most important issues.
We cannot wait for you to try out Inspector and get started on your journey to better data. The best part is that it runs natively in your CDP, and can be up and running and loading your events faster than you can make your morning coffee.
Try it out today:
Try Avo Inspector today if you’re a data practitioner who wants to start the journey to better data. It only takes a few minutes.
1. Head to www.avo.app
2. Create your workspace, or feel free to try out our Sandbox (https://www.avo.app/sandbox)
3. Follow the steps to install Inspector (it takes less than 89 seconds!)
Please enjoy, and let us know what you think. ♥️
Stefania & Sölvi
@alexandrabjarg thank you so much for your kind words!! GRID has been so helpful in my recent work with customers and I'm so glad we can be a part of your stack!
This is so awesome, I owned the data governance product area at Amplitude a few years back and this is exactly what customers needed/what I wish we had built!!
@alonbartur thaaank you, Alon! It's always been a please to riff on this problem with you and it's an honor that you like what you see here. What a testimonial. Thank you for sharing.
AVO is an amazing tool when it comes to finding SANITY in your analytic. It's a simple yet powerful insert into your stack that will make everyone's lives easier.
Remember that time you had to list out 10 event names that didn't follow your naming convention or worse, didn't have the right data being sent? Avo handles that for you out of the box.
10/10 from me fam, congrats to the team who's been working hard!
@sethmills21 hahaha oh my goodness Seth. Thank you for sharing <3
> Remember that time you had to list out 10 event names that didn't follow your naming convention or worse, didn't have the right data being sent? Avo handles that for you out of the box.
Hahaha that's too good. Trigger warning 😅
@sethmills21 Thank you Seth 👑🙌 Love hearing this. The core drive for building Avo initially was the frustration around the amount of sanity in the world being wasted on this
The new Segment destination for Avo Inspector is awesome! We got it hooked up in 3 minutes and immediately found a few critcal, easy-to-fix issues. Highly recommended
This is supremely cool! 📊
Having big debates on where to go, and what to build, when there isn't trust in the data is costly- and it's even more expensive to end up build the wrong thing. Often though, you just have to pull the trigger because it will be impossible to wait for a fix 😬
Big kudos to the entire Avo team for helping make product development more informed! 🙌
@haukursteinn Nicely worded!
Data bugs are so expensive if they go unnoticed, you might be making decisions based on the wrong data, which has led a whole development team to build the wrong thing! ❌
And its a cost that you realise after it happens, which can make or break companies 😬
@haukursteinn Thank you for sharing, Haukur 🥹 Avo exists to inspire better data cultures so teams can build better user experiences, so that journey is exactly what we want to help with <3
(A personal side mission: a world with fewer miserable data scientists 🙃)
I've been using Avo for the last 6 years - it's fantastic for data-driven product teams!
My favorite Avo feature is building events through the Metrics section, it makes coming up with a solid tracking plan a breeze.
Looking forward to using the Inspector feature - Congrats on the launch team Avo!
Love that your doing metrics first data-design in Avo @gunnar_holmsteinn1. Definitely an experience that has a lot of opportunities for improvements, but helps a lot with the thought process.
For readers, here's what I'm referring to with metrics first data design: https://www.avo.app/blog/trackin...
Congratulations, @stefaniabje, @logason, and the rest of the Avo team, on today's launch! Avo Inspector has been a game changer for us, alerting us when we have data issues in dev or staging and virtually eliminating data quality issues from making it into production. Data quality has gone from a problem that keeps me up at night to something I barely have to think about!
Hi Product Hunt!
I am Bjössi, one of the makers of Avo!
I´ve lead the infrastructure part of the Inspector, helping you get find your data bugs in seconds!
This has been a long journey for us and we are so excited to share the Inspector with the world!
We cannot wait for you to try it out!
Please tell us what you think 🩶
A long journey for @bjornolafur91, so the tracking plan managers of the world can have an extremely short journey for building out their tracking plans (89 seconds to be exact) 👑
Hey y'all!
I’m Bragi and I’m one of the makers behind Avo. I call myself a Product Developer and for many that would mean a full stack developer, for others someone who does a lot of this and that - mainly that 😅 What it means to me is that I’ve had an incredible chance to work deeply in many realms and aspects of the product from front to back and along the z-index as well. But my main responsibilities lie in the front-end. I don’t know if this is the first framing of working as a developer being some kind of a 3D experience, but because of the opportunities I’ve been given to be involved like that it’s been an extremely exciting, engaging and rewarding kind of work for me personally.
Add to that trying to crack a problem a lot of people are dealing with and has a huge impact on products. So we’re all truly pumped to be delivering this to the world and I can’t wait for people to start their journey of getting to a state of real data *quality* in mere minutes, even seconds. And this is just the beginning 😎
Can’t wait to hear what you think! Slide in my DMs, catch up for coffee, send me a pigeon. I’m here 🤩
-Bragi
@br_avo Yaaay! Thank you for sharing this, Bragi. Love this angle on the product developer hat 🤩 So glad to be working alongside you on this mission. Here's to the next chapter!
Huge congrats on this awesome launch, you continue to inspire me on so many levels!🚀
As someone working at HEIMA, a 3 person startup which launched 9 months ago we have extremely limited resources and lots of hats to put on🤠 Avo has already allowed us to easily build pretty decent event schemas and with the new Avo Inspector I think I am finally ready to start finding the root causes of all the "none"-s in our data 😅 🥳
@silla_johanns Yaaaas, amazing to hear from you, Silla! 🚀 Your HEIMA-journey resonates deeply with us. It’s fantastic to see Avo already paving the way for you to navigate through the data jungle. With Inspector, we're basically trying to say: you can indeed have your cake and eat it too - making sense of those pesky "none"-s without the need for a data army 😅
As a long-time user, I've been consistently impressed with Avo's commitment to enhancing data quality and streamlining analytics workflows. The launch of Avo Inspector is a testament to the team's innovation and hard work, making it a go-to tool for efficient and accurate data handling. Great job, Avo team – you're truly revolutionizing how we approach data!"
I've been watching Avo from the start and what an amazing update 👏
As a quality assurance specialist responsible for verifying analytics implementation, Avo significantly streamlines and enhances the efficiency of my work. What a team 🤩
@iris_sif_ragnarsdottir Thaaank you Íris. It means the world to me to hear that we change your live to the better. Avo exists to inspire better data cultures so teams can build better user experiences, but a personal side mission: a world with fewer miserable data scientists and I feel like your experience ticks that same box 🥹
Thank you @iris_sif_ragnarsdottir!
> As a quality assurance specialist responsible for verifying analytics implementation, Avo significantly
streamlines and enhances the efficiency of my work. What a team 🤩
And we're just getting started! Look forward to sharing with you some of the things we've been thinking about to further improve the pre-release validation 🚦
Avo is truly an incredible tool for making sense of your data tracking and ensuring good hygiene with the way analytics are managed at scale. Hats off to @stefaniabje and @logason for the launch!
This is unreal! In my product analytics days, these data discrepancies were an absolute PAIN that caused a ton of frustration and distrust among our customers, their teams, their departments, and more. These bugs/discrepancies would slowly build up (often in silence) until all of a sudden there was a massive accumulation of data debt that often took months, if not years, to resolve.
Avo's Inspector can help data teams untangle this mess and prevent it from ever happening again, and the interface helps them do it with ease. Couldn't be more excited for the Avo team. They've worked so hard to get here and the final product is a thing of beauty.
Thank you @andy_carlson 🙌
> and the final product is a thing of beauty.
Although as you know very well there is no such thing as a final product, we're just getting started 😏🚀
