I really can see how Somi can make my return from vacation smoother. But I do have a concern: information shared in some Slack channels are confidential. What are your security and privacy settings?
Zeng
@paola_german That's a great question! Somi only has access to the channels that you add it to and cannot access messages it is not supposed to. Additionally, it does not store any messages and all messages are queried again whenever a Somi command is run. Additionally, Somi uses ephemeral messages which are only available to the user who runs the command. Let us know if you have any other suggestions!

UPDATE 🚀: We've received feedback about difficulties using Somi, To use Somi bot, you’ll first need to invite it into the channel. You can simply mention @Somi and click on invite to channel! 🙌🏼 Hello Product Hunt community! I'm excited to announce the launch of Ask Somi, an artificial intelligence Slack bot that answers any workplace questions you have. 💡 We want to change how people extract information in organizations. As knowledge workers, we process increasing amounts of information as our organizations grow, but we have not changed the techniques we use to gather information. We think that AI can improve this process. We're building an AI tool as our first project that integrates into workspaces. Somi will land first on Slack and comes with 2 commands: 🪄`/digest` command gives you a summary of all the conversations or a summary on a specific topic within a time window in a slack channel. 🙋🏻‍♀️`/asksomi` command allows you to ask any question, and Somi will answer as accurately as it can based on contents in the slack channel. ⏩ In the future, we want to expand to other workspaces (Confluence, Microsoft Teams, etc.). 🚀 I hope you find our product helpful and would love to hear your feedback! Thank you for checking out Ask Somi 🙌🏼 P.S. Somi is free to install and no credit card is required. Since we're still in beta, we will be limiting installs to the first 50 users.

@hubert_chan1 We're so excited to share this product with everyone! Our philosophy is that AI will be commonplace soon, and we want to apply this technology in a useful context. Getting our first batch of users and feedback are critical to helping us understand the problems face so we can reiterate and improve on our product. Any feedback will be greatly welcomed!
Hubert
@andrei_nedelcu hey Andrei! We chatted during the launch of (https://theresanaiforthat.com/?r...), as mentioned, here is the product! Hope you get to test it!
Hubert
Hello everybody just wanted to give the team a quick shoutout and say thank you very much! Today, our Slack bot, Somi AI, was featured in the Product Hunt Daily newsletter (https://www.producthunt.com/news...). We're in good company—they even compared us to other Slack bots!
Richard Gao
Do you have plans for discord integration? Interesting product!
Hubert
@richard_gao2 we absolutely do! Thank you for your support Richard! hope you got to test out Somi AI

💡 Bright idea
I can definitely see this being really useful in time-sensitive situations, e.g. oncall war rooms where we need quick status updates for people that just joined the channel. Looking forward to seeing progress on this!
Hubert
@daniel_seetoh Thank you for the comments! We're happy to hear that you saw the value of Somi in time-sensitive situations. It's an intriguing use case that we have seen before and would love to try out, maybe work something out like a live feed feature to give people who have just joined the channel quick status updates. What do you think? @zenghoulim

Very interesting! Sounds like some ChatGPT-esque mechanics at work here. I can see this being used in incident channels where people being added in at a later stage have to catch up on 100-message threads quickly. Am curious about how the output will look when summarizing threads vs a bunch of individual pings.
Zeng
@charliethang Thanks Charlie! You're right -- we're using Instruct GPT (a sibling version of Chat GPT3). Yeah, that's a great point! It's on our roadmap to summarize only threads since we know lengthy discussions happen in there!
Eden
This is pretty awesome. I can see how this is going to help make lives easier on Slack. The initial features look great. Can't wait to see what other exciting features Somi will have soon!
Zeng
@edenl Thanks Eden! If you have any suggestions for Somi, feel free to let us know!
Hubert
@edenl thank you Eden! We're really excited to see how we can deliver more value across different platforms in the future
Michelle Phung
I spend soooo much time digging through messages trying to figure out what decisions were made, who made them, and when they were made. Somi sounds awesome for this - can’t wait for it to be expanded across other platforms!
Hubert
@michelle_phung1 thank you Michelle!
Zeng
@michelle_phung1 Thanks Michelle! Can't wait for you to try Somi!
Leo
Amazing, it's a challenge navigating the channels on Slack, this is really helpful and saves a chunk of time having all the information in one place. Looking forward to further development!
Zeng
@leosy Thanks for checking us out! We're still in the early stages and hope to bring more to the table soon!
Hubert
@leosy I appreciate your kind words. We're happy to hear that Somi AI makes it easier for you to navigate Slack channels. Finding the information they require quickly can be difficult for many people, so our aim is to make it simpler.

Loving this so far! I'm excited to see use cases for feeding conversation summaries into documentation (e.g., Slack → Somi → Notion) at some point. Some other feedback: - My company tends to hash things out in threads. It would be helpful to have Somi's functions work in a thread, especially /digest - Choosing the digest's level of detail – I noticed in many cases that the summary was too high-level. It helps me decide whether or not I should read the thread, but it would also be cool to have a digest that, for instance, walks me through the discussion and how a decision might have been made. - Is there a way to have Somi repost the results publicly? Something to cut out the added step of copying the results + pasting to Slack for others to see
Hubert
@osmind_dan Thank you very much for your feedback Dan! Yes, I love the idea about feeding conversation summaries into documentation, or the 'e2e' process of idea to reality. - (Somi in threads) That makes a lot of sense as well, @zenghoulim we'll probably be able to figure this one out pretty soon! - (High-level digests) I agree, digest is pretty much a high-level summarization based on the time range defined. Have you tried /asksomi, that could be a good way to find out more about a specific discussion within a channel! - (Public results) Another helpful feedback! Definitely will be added to the roadmap! We were debating about this when building Somi! Thank you for the product idea!

Hubert

Avril Soh
This is exactly what I’m looking for! Can definitely see it’s usefulness in incidents channels where we have to catch up quickly on what was previously discussed
Hubert
@aswt thank you very much Avril! Hope you got to try out Somi AI, we'd love to hear your feedback!
Umurcan Yılmaz
Can the product also analyze images/videos on the channels/groups or text only so far?
Zeng
@umurcan_yilmaz1 Great question! It's only text today but multi-modality is something we are thinking of in the horizon!
Zeng
What platform do you think Somi should integrate with next?
KY Leung
An impressive use of AI to enhance my productivity in work. No longer will I suffer from the frustration of being pull into a Slack thread without context and having to sift through lengthy conversations. Looking forward to discovering what else Somi has to offer!
Hubert
@ky_leung thank you KY! Hope you get to try it out!
WYN

Congrats to the team for the launch of Somi! I can definitely see how Somi can be a valuable addition to improve workplace productivity and efficiency in communication. My team and I use slack extensively and it can be rather challenging to constantly keep up with discussions and conversations across multiple channels. Great features for a launch, excited to see what the team builds on next for Somi!
