Arlo Pro is a smart home security system. It is rechargeable, waterproof and wire-free so you can put it wherever you need to be secure! You will have full access to a free Arlo app and in a few clicks, you will be able to watch on every one of your devices. It comes with sound and movement detectors and will notify you every time it detects any.

I've got the indoor, wired Arlo and it's the best deal out there for security cameras. 7 day motion/sound triggered video storage in the cloud for free.

@coreyo Glad to hear you are enjoying your Arlo Q camera Corey! That was the first product I managed when joined the Arlo team last year.

I have the regular Arlo as a doorbell camera. We live in the country so the front door is usually unlocked but with the Arlo I get notifications straight to my phone before anyone can reach the door. It means I can happily be listening to music without worrying who might be calling. Other advantages: it's waterproof so I can leave it outside and I've mounted it on a tripod to notify me when our local hedgehogs turn up for feeding. The app is pretty good and let's you define different notification modes and even set them on a schedule. And since I runs on batteries (yes, I got >4 months out of it) I didn't have to mess with rewiring mains cables. The 4 batteries cost about €12 though I think they're more common and cheaper in the US. Two oddities: the Arlo has it's own wifi base station; the movement detection is by infra-red not analysing the camera feed (that's how they get such good battery life)

@ideasasylum Is there any subscription plan you have to pay?
Jamie Lawrence
@joshdance nope! At least, not for my level of usage. I think for more camera and longer retention there might be but it's not something I need (and you can always download the videos)
Greg Falgiano
@joshdance @ideasasylum We include a rolling 7 days of cloud storage for 5 cameras for FREE! If you want to retain your videos for 14 or 30 days or want more than 5 cameras on your account, we have really affordable plans to accommodate that. For most users, the included 7 day plan meets their needs, so you simply buy the hardware and don't need to worry about a monthly fee. You can also download your videos and save them to your mobile device, PC or Mac for long term storage. Plus, the Arlo Pro base station can automatically save all your videos to an attached flash drive or USB hard drive.

I was hoping for HomeKit integration but doesn't seem to support it. (or did I miss it?)

@husseinyahfoufi Added @oleg_fishel to the thread (as a maker)
Oleg Fishel
@husseinyahfoufi HomeKit integration is definitely on the roadmap for future products. Since HomeKit requires specific hardware on the device, it's not something that can be added retroactively.

For decades the joke was always about Arlo Guthrie, now it's about me checking someone's garage or baby room. Ah well. Hey @netgear want to buy my Twitter name off me? ;-)

As we get older and smarter, we pay more attention to our safety and security - I didn't plan to have such a device, but now I'm thinking what a great idea it is! It took me few days to understand I really want it. Will check some competitors, but probably will get back for yours. Thank you guys for discovering such a useful thing!
Greg Falgiano
@paul_shuteyev Very true, peace of mind becomes more important with age :) Even if you don't have a serious security use case, a lot of our users just like the idea of being able to "check in" on the things that matter most or get a glimpse of home when traveling.
Paul Shuteyev
Looks simple and useful. What I like most is that it could be just a "toy" to watch your pets, and the really useful security device at the same time. Making it waterproof and weatherproof is nice!
Marcos T. Moralez
@paul_shuteyev What grabbed my attention the most was the 6 month battery life! For being completely wireless that's amazing. I came across an article that mentioned it (I'll add it when I find it).
Greg Falgiano
@paul_shuteyev @marcosmoralez Our new model, the Arlo Pro (listed on this product hunt page) now has a rechargeable battery. Battery life will very with outdoor temperature and use, but most of our customers see 4-6 month battery life. I personally get 7 month battery life out of my most active camera, but it lives in California weather, so it performs a little better than average.
Greg Falgiano
@marcosmoralez @paul_shuteyev We're also working on a solar panel for the Arlo Pro, so you can place it outside with a very easy install process and essentially not have to worry about charging the battery.

@Oleg and I did a facebook live video yesterday and talked about Arlo Go along with some upcoming software features and accessories. Hope you like our festive suits! https://www.facebook.com/arlosma...
