Hey hunters,
After many months in the making, we are stoked to be releasing ArDrive to the broader public - making it easier than ever for users to exit the cloud and reclaim ownership of their wallets, privacy, and digital data.
We often say that ArDrive is kind of like Web3 Dropbox, on steroids. It delivers the familiar use case of a normal file-storage app, but comes supercharged with military-grade encryption and an open-sourced code base.
Instead of cloud storage solutions where subscriptions gate access to your own content - ArDrive users can store photographs, image files (including NFTs), PDFs, text documents, audio and video files, and even site manifests and code snippets, by paying once and storing them indefinitely.
If you're wondering how this is even possible - you can think of Arweave as a public blockchain that permanently stores the files, and ArDrive as a portal to that blockchain - letting users easily interface and interact with content.
Those interactions look and feel just like using a normal file storage app, but carry the added benefits of enhanced privacy and permanent access beyond the life of the organization. This is made possible by permanent data, the 0-1 invention that people are only just beginning to discover.
We are excited to be establishing a presence on Product Hunt, where we will be sharing new releases and big features across subsequent launches - stay tuned!
@lucasporterbakker First of Congratulations to the team for launch of @ArDrive.
My suggestion is ; As the product is Web3.0 based if a crypto token can be introduced to third party users that can store the data.
It could truly resolve files time constraints.
Again just a suggestion :)
@lucasporterbakker Bravo, well done! It’s amazing because we have used ArDrive for over a year already. The product works well and we are totally going to Turbo Boost at Launch! What comes next is sure to impress.
Web3 has been in need of something like this for a long time! People use blockchains as "storage" but I never really thought that quite made sense on its own. THIS is where it all really starts to come together
Speaking of coming together, the team has also just built an integration with MetaMask to improve interoperability between Ethereum and Arweave. This has famously been another hurdle to the growth of web3 consumers apps - namely connecting ecosystems with distinct value-ads, and stitching them together in a way that provides a seamless UX for end-users. So @trent_kennelly and @metadavid if you've been curious to try Arweave, but are not new to web3, then this is an easy way to get started.
@trent_kennelly Fully agree with this take! Web3 is such a difficult to grasp concept to the average person, and i think this helps provide that layer of abstraction to shift from web2 to web3 where it makes sense!
Thanks for the Q @rrhoover!
Yep, nailed it! ArDrive is built on top of Arweave - a decentralized data storage protocol. You can think of Arweave like Bitcoin, but for data: a permanent and decentralized web inside an open ledger.
The Arweave network protocol incentivizes the storage and replication of data sent to, and shared by, the nodes on the network via block rewards and miner fees paid by the protocol itself and the users of the network in its native token, AR. Miners compete to win block rewards for proposing each successive block in the "block weave". That competition requires them to produce cryptographically verifiable evidence that they've stored replicas of protocol-dictated, random chunks of the data from the entire history of the weave.

Hey @metadavid, that's great to hear! We would be so grateful to hear your feedback if you get around to trying it. I mentioned this down below, but thought it relevant to mention that for a limited time, users can also benefit from free uploads under 100KB! So it's a great time to check out the app if you've been curious!
Very interesting. And since it's based on Arweave you don't have to worry if the company behind it goes out of business, your data will be safe regardless of the app's success! - Which is kind of a pro-argument towards the app's success 😀
Wow @andrew_nielsen27, we got a celeb in the mix haha. :fire: What have you been using ArDrive to store primarily for your career, video or audio files?
This product is brilliant for interacting with Blockchain and Web3. I was looking for a relatively simple solution to put a PWA on the Blockchain, and Arweave seemed like the way to go. ArDrive provided a simple, easy-to-navigate method to navigate the system.
I love how files uploaded to Arweave don't require monthly subscriptions or "pinning" to keep alive. Well done! This is such a fantastic solution for hosting files, websites, PWA's, and more.
ARDrive can't help but succeed. it is well built, easy to use, solves a myriad of storage issues, and is inexpensive for what you receive. What else could you ask for in a permanent storage solution? Kudos to the developers!!
This is definitely different and the 90% discount makes it a no brainer to try. It's a great place to keep my most important files. Good luck with the launch!
Thank you @anthony_d_! It is indeed a great time to try if you've been curious about Arweave or web3 utility apps. For a limited time, users can also benefit from free uploads under 100KB!
Love arDrive, it so convenient to store all of my music and I love the pay once store forever model. adDrive helps me to keep it all organized and stored forever which has been so valueable for me when looking for old tracks or uploading new ones when collaborating. I'm definitely a user for life!
@cowboy_codertx ArDrive is an excellent spot for your music, whether to share publicly or just to store privately for safe keeping. Thanks for being a user (for life!!)
ArDrive has been great for me. I stored things like my old notes from University, family photos, audio lectures, business info etc.
It is a good feeling to have all of those important things safely stored!
Congrats on the launch!
What an amazing project Arweave is and Akord is one of the shining diamonds that are closing the gap on adoption with their storage and Atomic NFTs. Proud to be part.
@rudy_roesel ArDrive uses AES-256 encryption for private drives, which is quantum-resistant. The keys are custodial, meaning the user is responsible for storing them, and the team does not have any access ever.
Keep in mind, ArDrive provides tamper proof, permanent storage, meaning once the file is encrypted and uploaded, that file cant be deleted and the encryption key can never be rotated! I personally do not use ArDrive for storing private key material (unless its maybe for a test wallet), but your risk tolerance may be different!
@lucasporterbakker storing and sourcing images for websites. I also like to have pdf documents that I share often available on ardrive as well. i.e. CVs, Pitch Decks, White Papers, etc.
Your product's inventive solution is commendable! The concept is intriguing. I'm curious, what exciting milestones or features are you planning for the next phase of development? Keep up the great work!
Thanks for you interest @detkov! You'll be happy to know that we do have some awesome new releases inbound. Curious, what new ArDrive feature(s) would you love to see?
