Seeing all the amazing feedback here is a huge moral and motivation boost for us to take Appwrite even further, and maximize the potential of the platform. Thank you so much everyone! This means a lot to us!
Hi there, it’s Eldad from the Appwrite team 👋
App development is complex and repetitive. Creating modern applications requires a ton of different skills and has a huge learning curve. I started working on Appwrite in 2019 to abstract the complexity of software development so I can focus on creating value, and more importantly, have fun writing code.
As someone who started their software engineering journey in the open-source community, I always wanted to find a way to contribute back to the community. This encouraged me to publish Appwrite on GitHub later that year.
To my amazement, the project immediately started trending on GitHub, and a community formed around it. Three years later, thanks to the help of a growing community of +200k members, we’re officially announcing Appwrite. I couldn’t have done it alone.
Appwrite is a secure backend server that provides the core APIs required to build modern applications. Appwrite provides authentication, database, storage, functions, and advanced real-time capabilities.
Appwrite is built to meet developers where they are. Appwrite supports 24 runtimes and 11 different programming languages with 12 different SDKs. Developers and teams can stick with the tech stack they are already comfortable with. Appwrite also has support for a variety of adapters for authentication, storage, databases, messaging, and logging.
Appwrite is designed to be easy to start and quick to grow. Developer experience is at the heart of what we do. From the way, we designed our docs, through our SDKs and integrations, the consistency of our APIs, and the intense discussions we hold with our community about naming conventions. The developer’s journey is always at the top of our minds.
You can self-host Appwrite with a single command anywhere and have full control over your data and your user’s privacy.
This is just the beginning for Appwrite. We believe Appwrite has tremendous potential to make developers' lives easier in even more ways. Here’s a sneak peek at some features we’re currently working towards: MongoDB and PostgreSQL adaptors, GraphQL support, more flexible queries and relations, geolocation data and querying, push notifications, and offline sync.
We’re excited to hear about your feedback and see you in the Appwrite community!

Appwrite is the collective creation of every community member. It doesn’t matter if you’ve submitted a pull request, shared your frustration or love, or recommended Appwrite to your peers, you all helped us reach this major milestone. We are all making Appwrite better - together.
Unfortunately, we could not add everyone as Makers on Product Hunt, so we created this special page as a gesture of our appreciation: https://appwrite.io/thankyou.txt

@fares_aktouf@eldad_fux@agent_joons Hey there 👋 We're working on the Appwrite Cloud as we speak.
Very soon we'd be opening up the Cloud for a select group of users that have expressed interest.
If you'd like to be included in the list, please drop in your details here
https://appwrite.io/cloud
@nishchit_dhanani thank you so much! We've also got a Discord server (https://appwrite.io/discord) that you can join to interact with our team and the wonderful Appwrite developers community :D
I feel grateful I was able to join Appwrite earlier this year. I joined because open source is a huge part of my passion and roots. I joined because Appwrite has such a strong open source community of builders and contributors. The way the community interacts and cares so much made me fall in love with the community. It makes me happy to see testimonials and comments from others who have experienced building with Appwrite. You are all amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Hi,
When is appwrite cloud deployment scheduled for please?
If I understand correctly, for now, appwrite is only usable from a localhost server standpoint, rather than from a cloud server point?
@christophe_chanteur Hey Christophe we're working on the Cloud as we speak. We plan to open up our cloud Beta to interested users very soon. If you haven't signed up already, you can express your interest here
https://appwrite.io/cloud
@christophe_chanteur As Christy mentioned, Appwrite Cloud is coming really soon. For now you can use, for instance, 1 click deployment on DigitalOcean and get your Appwrite running with 0 setup friction: https://marketplace.digitalocean...
@christophe_chanteur It's possible to deploy Appwrite on a Cloud computing solution, like a DO droplet, AWS Elastic Containers, GCP Compute Engine, etc.
Once deployed, it'll feel exactly like our upcoming cloud service. It'll just be a little more work to manage your own storage containers. Cheers.
Thank you everyone. Sorry for my delay in responding.
I'm using wasabi cloud as backend storage. Could appwrite for now be linked to it via a 1-clik method, whilst awaiting the appwrite cloud solution?
I have Appwrite twice, and the experience using it was great as I got to build a full-stack application. I will gladly recommend it to anyone wanting to try out an alternative database that is out there. Appwrite is simply the best.
@joshuaeyenike1 that is awesome I am so happy you had a good experience with the product! With our team working hard on adding new features and improving docs it should get even easier 😃
@joshuaeyenike1 Thanks Teri! 🙏🏼 Providing a great developer experience is one of our core philosophies so I'm glad you had a great experience! 😊 Feel free to add your app to https://github.com/appwrite/awes...!
Thank you so much @vinicius_brito! I hope that everyone will see the value in starting with Appwrite, so that they can grow at their own pace, with simple yet powerful tools! :D
That's what i am looking for since ages and plus it's open source. I am gonna love it.
I am using These firebase tool right now
*Realtime database
*Crashlytics
*Auth
*Firestore
*Storage
*Functions
*Machine Learning
*Cloud Messaging
As you can see how our product depends on Firebase and i can see you guys are covering most of their product. This is one of the great launches i see on PH.
@varunrazora This is awesome to hear! We're also going to have a lot new services on the stack in the coming months! Welcome to track our GitHub PRs to watch for all the cool stuff!

I started contributing to Appwrite long before I joined the team because I loved the product. I found it while searching for Firebase alternatives for my Flutter project and never looked back. This is a proud moment for me as I got to contribute to the success of such an amazing product and become a part of such an welcoming community and amazing team. Congratulations to the team and community.
One day i joined a discord to ask a simple question, and next thing you know Im part of an amazing community that is people first and truely open source. We are Appwrite.
