I'm more excited about AR than VR to be honest and interested in seeing what developments come in the next few years.
Anyone working on something wacky with AR?
@castalanoo@iamjmw@bentossell Exactly. I think 360 video is the best "use" case (rather than "entertainment") for VR. I'm imagining live 360 being the next goldrush. 360 VR news reports, concert/sport events (put the 360 camera on a jib), anything time-sensitive where you don't know what's going to happen.
But ya, AR for every day stuff.
I am really interested in seeing what developers are going to do with ARKit. The fact that IOS has a huge adoption rate will help democratize AR in Apple products and in general. I also want to try ARKit so much 😱
For me it's interesting how late this actually came. We launched our first AR game in 2010, and for a while there were some interesting projects around AR, but then it all kinda faded for a while, glad it's back and Apple formally supports this tech. If anyone's interested in the game
And it's worth highlighting the importance of the Unity ARKit plugin because AR devs who've been working on Tango and Hololens hardware will be able to port at least a glimpsing of their apps to iOS in hours, not weeks.
I really liked your app and upvoted as it deserved!
Maybe you can drop by and have a look and feel on our app and maybe share an upvote if you like it ! Thanks

We're implementing ARKit scenes into Episode 2 of our Victorian detective adventure Silent Streets: https://youtu.be/n6xY0p-IjC4
Apple's tech is two heads above the conventional simplistic AR like Vuforia (which was used in Silent Streets Episode 1).
Pros:Good plane recognition and object positioning, well-calibrated visual inertial odometry
Cons:Can have issues in poor lighting or plain backgrounds. Needs looking around first to detect flat surfaces.
