Love this! Sharing audio on social has been notoriously difficult, while video has been the media format of choice across all the major platforms of late. Giving people the ability to easily convert audio to video while transcribing the text makes perfect sense... Here's an example of what Pod Save America looks like as a video using Anchor: https://twitter.com/PodSaveAmeri...

Amazing! So glad this exists, now. I've done this by hand for a couple episodes of my podcast, and it quickly became a huge chore and PITA. This might be the push I needed to use Anchor more often.
Maya Prohovnik
@boaticus Thanks so much Ken, glad to hear it! We really tried to make it as painless as possible, so hopefully we've succeeded and we can save you a ton of time :)

love this move!
Zach Segal
Wow, love this. Anchor team is killing it!
Maya Prohovnik
@zosegal Thanks so much, Zach!

@freidlin Thank you!

Killer feature and the end to end user experience is super well thought through. Transcription accuracy, even for HQ well-spoken English seemed to be about 70-80% which isn't bad, especially considering the editing experience is SO well done (e.g auto-adjusting timings as you edit words out, allowing for slowed playback, etc.). Seriously bravo! 👍Two big questions: (1) As many people begin to use this it'll start to look very similar, and I worry, stale. Would be smart to add customization flexibility in a templated way like Canva does. Coming soon?🙏 (2) Can you enable an export in HD option? The current output is too low-res, especially on stories the text is fairly pixelated. 😔

Hey, Product Hunt! One of the things we've been hearing from audio content creators since the day we started Anchor was that audio is hard to share on social media. Most major social platforms don't yet have native support for audio, so trying to raise awareness for your podcast or other audio content on social can be difficult. So we built a new tool inside of Anchor that makes sharing audio to Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube - or anywhere else videos are consumed - incredibly easy. First, just record audio directly into the Anchor app, or upload existing audio (a clip from your podcast, etc) to your Anchor account. Anchor Videos will then magically transcribe your audio. You can quickly fix any minor transcription issues and Anchor Videos will overlay your words synced perfectly with your audio in a beautiful, shareable video. Best of all, you can export your video at whatever size you need: square (perfect for Instagram), wide (perfect for Facebook, Twitter, or Youtube), and tall (perfect for Instagram Stories). It's that easy. We've been beta testing this feature for a few months now, with both casual Anchor creators and some of the biggest podcasters in the world. Here are a few examples: Pod Save America (by Crooked Media): https://twitter.com/PodSaveAmeri... The Outline: https://twitter.com/anchor/statu... YouTuber Jordan Taylor: https://youtu.be/in_1CtLgk3M?t=57s We'll be here on Product Hunt answering questions all day. Thanks!

@mignano this sounds like literally magic. how do i know that when Anchor is done revolutionizing podcasting and audio content, you won't use these same powers to steal my soul?
Mike Mignano
@hunterwalk already in progress
Brandon Uttley
@mignano I'm not seeing the video button on existing clips...is this not available yet?
Maya Prohovnik
@brandonuttley Hey Brandon! Are you definitely on the latest version of the app (2.9)? If so, it may be that you're looking at a segment you don't own. We don't allow transcription on songs or other people's segments that have been added to your station. Lemme know if that doesn't seem like the issue!
Avi Muchnick
Stellar work team @anchor! I love how far you are raising the bar in making tools for audio creators so accessible and powerful. Keep killing it!
Maya Prohovnik
@avimuchnick Thanks Avi!! <3

Next level awesome. Great job. I'm actually really excited to see how influencers use this to capture interesting moments in interviews/storylines, etc. So many cool use-cases here. Awesome job Anchor team.
Maya Prohovnik
@jaketsacudakis Us too! It was really important to us to support different aspect ratios so people could use the videos anywhere they wanted. Thanks for noticing and we can't wait to see how YOU use it! :)
Beth Ziesenis
This is seriously cool.

Great job @anchor team! You're definitely redefining the podcast game. I just started as a creator on Anchor and I'm loving the innovation coming from this team. Avid fan here - keep it coming! Btw, here's my shameless plug for my anchor channel: anchor.fm/shardul
Maya Prohovnik
@shardulg23 Thanks, Shardul! Plug away! :)

Hey @mayafish and team, this is awesome. I've noticed, about 3 weeks ago, there was an option to save segments as videos, locally. I actually used it a few times and planned to "cross-post" to YouTube, hence very sad when you took it down. Now it all makes sense :) Can you share your thinking and experiments behind the scenes? How was the idea born? Did you test it privately? What is your ambition for the feature? Looking forward to playing with Videos and improve my English to a "transcribe" level.

@mignano What? Making life easier by repurposing my content FOR ME?! Have my upvote.
Maya Prohovnik
@thetomwhatley YEAH DUDE WE'RE ALL ABOUT IT!

THIS is amazing. Personally, as a writer, I'm a HUGE fan of Anchor. When I have half-baked ideas and don't have my computer in front of me, I use Anchor to crystallize my thoughts, feelings, and views. I also love the community aspect and the production simplicity of Anchor. I can call-in to my friends and find cool strangers who look awesome and have interesting conversations - that actually sound pleasant enough to listen to. I can't wait to use this video feature. I believe Anchor is to audio what Medium is to writing, Instagram is to photos, and YouTube is to videos. I predict it will catch on like wildfire. Best of luck @mignano and the @anchor team!
Maya Prohovnik
@mignano @anchor @daveschools_ Thanks so much, Dave! So cool that we're able to help with your writing process. I think you'll love the simplicity of the videos too :)
Blake Chastain
This looks really promising as a way to share audiograms across the web! Does this work on anchor.fm/clip? I have a long-form podcast (soundcloud.com/exvangelical-podcast) that I'd love to extract clips of.
Mike Mignano
@brchastain It does! If you want to promote a soundbite from a longer podcast, first clip what you want at anchor.fm/clip, then tap the video button inside of the Anchor app (on your profile) to kick off transcription.
Josh Lewis!
I'm not seeing this feature mentioned, so I'm going to assume it doesn't exist, but I hope I'm wrong. What if I could point Anchor at _any_ podcast, and tell it which section to make a video / GIF of? So basically, make sections of any podcast I enjoy shareable, so that I can highlight a section I enjoy and share that with my friends, encouraging them to listen too? It gets exponentially more powerful when I can do this with any audio and not just the audio I record in the app.
Maya Prohovnik
@joshlewis Hi Josh, I promise it exists!! Make sure your app is updated, record a segment, and then you'll see a video button next to the segment in your profile. You actually *can* do this with any audio: just drag the audio file in to anchor.fm/clip, select the section you want to transcribe, and add it to your Anchor station. From there, you'll be able to transcribe and share it just like any natively recorded segment. Hope this helps!
Manikandan
Super cool feature!
Andrew Montesi
Brilliant ..I've been waiting for a tool like this for my podcasts. Thank you!
Maya Prohovnik
@andrewmontesi Thanks, Andrew!!
Francesco D'Alessio
Kudos on the launch guys! Have been loving creating on Anchor!

Additional feature request for this new update - it would be great to be able to download the captions as a txt file as we take the time to edit them - this can then be used to build the description for a blog post where we can embed the video or on YouTube or other social sites for SEO
