Alfred 5.5 is now available, with the huge exciting addition of the Grid, Text, Image and PDF views that bring your Alfred results to life in a whole new way!
Hi, I'm Vero, Alfred co-founder 👋
Alfred 5.5 is a huge release; With the Grid, Text, Image and PDF Views, you can present your results in Alfred in a whole new way!
You can see some of the highlights of what's new in Alfred 5.5 here:
https://www.alfredapp.com/whats-...
To show you how you can use these new objects, we've created a few workflows:
The ChatGPT / DALL-E integration workflow (https://alfred.app/workflows/alf...) uses the interactive Text View so that you can ask ChatGPT your question, get streaming results in-line and continue the conversation with further questions. You can also use DALL-E in-line for image generation.
The Thumbnail Navigation workflow (https://alfred.app/workflows/alf...) primarily uses the Grid View; Browse your files, images and folders visually in Alfred, and preview images, PDFs and documents in-line.
We've also created a Memory Pairs game (https://alfred.app/workflows/vit... Test your brain with a card-matching game. It saves your current state so you can come back to it later to finish your game. 😆
These new views are already being integrated into more existing popular workflows, many of which are included in the Gallery. As well as these, You'll find hundreds of curated, verified workflows created by our team and community workflow creators on Alfred Gallery (https://alfred.app)
As ever, our forum community is always there to help you pick or create the best workflows to suit your own working style and productivity habits.
Long time Alfred user — but drifted towards Raycast because it embraced the web, web services, OAuth, and modern productivity.
I'm not sure what changed on the Alfred side, but I'm glad to see that it's coming into the future, slowly, with its 5.5 release.
I used Alfred before OSX had Spotlight. Great to see they have integrated AI. Makes me think that Apple might probably integrate Gemini into Spotlight with their partnership.
Alfred user since 2018. Use it every 10 minutes or so 🤣 Super cool to be able to talk to ChatGPT directly from Alfred. Would love to have a workflow that integrates the Perplexity Online API
@nicocaramella Sounds like the Perplexity API is conveniently similar to the ChatGPT one, so it might be as simple as changing the API endpoint in the workflow Environment Variables.
There's a thread on alternative models on the forum, where you can join the conversation if you'd like to try using Perplexity as another option: https://www.alfredforum.com/topi...
Been using and creating workflows in Alfred since 2018. It feels like every couple of weeks an idea pops into my head for some task that I can automate or make faster with Alfred. Out of the box Alfred is quite powerful, but the true limitless power is unlocked once you start diving into and customizing or creating your own workflows. 5.5 is the biggest update I think I've seen in Alfred's history (or at least in several years) and I can't wait to make use of the new features.

Congratulations on the release of Alfred 5.5! 🎉 The inclusion of Grid, Text, Image, and PDF views is a remarkable enhancement that significantly improves Alfred's functionality.
Congrats on the launch of Alfred 5.5! 🎉 The addition of Grid, Text, Image, and PDF views is a fantastic enhancement to Alfred's functionality.
How do you envision the new Grid, Text, Image, and PDF views transforming the way users interact with Alfred, and what inspired their implementation in this latest release? Can't wait to explore the possibilities!
@yasec_kowalski We've created the ChatGPT / DALL-E workflow, the Thumbnail Navigation workflow and the Memory Pairs game to name just three of the new workflows that take advantage of the new Views.
You can see the ChatGPT workflow in action in this video:
Community members have created some "notepad" workflows for scribbling notes on the go, added the Grid view to browse their photoshoot libraries more efficiently, etc. There is SO much flexibility in what can be created with these views. 😃
Even without workflows, you can use the new views directly from Alfred's Universal Actions, as you'll see a new "View in Alfred" universal action to quickly preview Markdown, images, PDFs and text files within Alfred or from Finder.
Alfred 5.5 maintains Alfred's status for rock solid stability and versatility embedded in a tiny app. 5.5 is a superb release adding new features which comprise great enhancements that are simple to incorpoate in workflows. As with most things Alfred-related you really don't need to be a skilled programmer to create useful and sophisticated workflows with little effort—and, for the likes of me, that is a huge advantage.
(Full disclosure: I've used Alfred for years and am a moderator on the Alfred forum.)
Have used Alfred for over a decade and no Mac I've ever owned has felt complete until Alfred is up and running. This new ChatGPT integration is super helpful for me as someone who doesn't use ChatGPT very often, but now I am able to trigger it within a couple of seconds from my existing workflow and copy+paste the result right from Alfred without having to open an app or browser somewhere else.... will always support Alfred and it's great to see how actively developed the app is whilst remaining so bug-free, performant and well thought out!
