@chrismessina It depends on the aspect of comparison. Black wasn't price accessible to everyone, but Black let customers have specific expectations that were consistently met. Plus sounds to be the latter, not necessarily the former.
As someone who uses Airbnb for most of my business trips, this will save me a good amount of time making sure I have somewhere that includes essentials like a hair dryer, shampoo, wifi, and a decent desk to get work done. In my experience, almost all listings have this anyway, but I'll pay a small premium to save time verifying that in advance. Not sure I'll pay double the average listing price though..
Makes a lot of sense if you are looking for exceptional experience and have a good budget (an average price per night would be about twice compared to a standard listing).
I personally spend a lot of time looking for a great apartment on Airbnb, reading all the reviews and checking the smallest details. Now it will be faster and easier.
Also, the new home categories like unique homes look amazing, now I can easily find a tree house or igloo for my next trip. 😀
The Plus landing pages remind me of the improvements Airbnb did while they were in YC–taking professional photographs of listings, which were free for hosts. This update makes it even more desirable to stay in their listings. In particular, the tour and amenities sections are what make Plus listings stand out compared to regular listings:
I love Airbnb, but it's not great for renting long term. Checkout Rentoo for an Airbnb Plus alternative for medium to long-term stays: https://www.producthunt.com/post...
After telling them for many times, I’m happy that they finally built a filter by host type. You’ll be able to choose who you stay with - doctor, chef, musician, investor etc.
It's funny to think that it all started with "Air Mattress Bed and Breakfast", a cheap alternative to expensive hotels. Now we've got AirBnB for rich people, an expensive alternative to expensive hotels. Nothing but the finest of air mattresses for these guests.
Being an avid user of AirBnB both as a guest and as a host, I absolutely love it. The benefits reach far beyond just price point, which is how it initially differentiated itself. Living comfortably and like a local in a new city is one of the greatest ways to travel, even for longer business trips. Far better than the sterile experience of even the finest hotels, who pride themselves on "consistency" and "repeatability".
In the past, I had to scour through past reviews to determine if an AirBnB was a good choice or not. Having a more verified method like AirBnB Plus (hopefully) alleviates that burden. Something that is definitely worth the extra shekels.
As a very early-adopter of airbnb both in hosting and traveling would ask Airbnb team to focus on limiting the full business operated rentals and highlight more the genuine hosts who share max. 30% time of the year.
Yes it probably hurts your insane profits, with this path the concept will be outlawed in all major cities in the coming 10 years. This a pledge to take on the proactive, preemptive stance on a g l o b a l level instead of the current mix of locally designed PR/Lobbying/Community engagement/cosmetic changes. An approach that does nothing to root out the number one threat to the ecosystem in long term; fully business operated listings.
A great feature in Airbnb, assures guest a quality experience & beautiful homes. On the host side, doubles the revenue over the 100 qualities granted. Refer the doc to know more about,

What's the difference between Airbnb Plus and Airbnb Corporate and Business Travel (https://www.airbnb.com/work)?
If I want a hotel, there are tons of places to book something.
Airbnb was initially about something else: I have some space and I make some money out of it.
