Augment Code releases CLI Claude Code competitor Auggie
... more than $200M, so it must be decent. They just announced the release of a CLI tool, Auggie, to compete with Claude Code. Here's the launch announcement . Does anyone use Augment day to day? Is this a viable alternative to @Claude Code ? I tried it out the other day and couldn't get used to not being able to see the diffs like you can with other tools. Comment from Allie Cooper(@allie_cooper): I tried Augment and thought ... ... these new tools. Comment from Deepjyoti Nath(@deepjyoti31): I use Augment code for long time, it's one of the best. The context engine is top-notch Comment from Ricky Guo(@rickyguo): @steveb  I used with VS

From Aerospace Engineer to Full-Stack AI App in 1.5 Months - My Vibe Coding Journey
... landing page - it worked! But when I tried building the actual app, I hit walls constantly. Complex bugs, insufficient insights, running out of credits without real progress. The breakthrough: Ditched the fancy Vibe-Coding platform, went first to Claude + VS Code + GitHub, then Claude Code + VS

Coding with an AI IDE (visual) vs AI CLI (Terminal), what's better?
... product teams that focus on the agent loop, tool calling, management of context and subagents can move faster and I think that's why Claude Code and Amp have the edge right now with Gemini-CLI also catching up. VS Code forks start with a huge surface area that comes with all kinds of scope creep challenges. This helped Cursor et al to get started and onboard users fast because the user experience is largely backwards compatibility. It meets people ... ... really want to see the diff view as I have developed a healthy distrust of LLMs. So you can do both as Claude Code has a lot of plugins for IDEs: Claude Code for Jetbrains Claude Code for VScode

AMA w/ James & Tim (founders of posthog)
... anything! we'll be around 8am pt today for an hour to answer live! Comment from James Hawkins(@james_hawkins3): @will_daubney  trust is a really big deal. with what we do especially because there are gazilions of competitors and we get lots of data sent to us. we thought about it and concluded that transparency was the way to do this and the impression your website creates matters a lot here - if the website is good enough, people ... ... make you look like you've existed for ~3 days. something less polished but more you is more authentic and trustworthy. we also found that by targeting a specific user group - product engineers - and not product managers like our competitors

Claude 3.5 vs. Claude 3.7: Fresh Test
... actually performed better in one key area. While 3.7 is more advanced in many ways, I've found it to be too docile - it rarely pushes back on questionable requests. Claude 3.5, on the other hand, would often suggest alternative (and frankly better) approaches when my initial idea wasn't optimal. This constructive resistance from 3.5 led to better outcomes in my development process. I value an AI assistant that acts as a thoughtful collaborator rather than just following instructions ... ... without question. Has anyone else noticed this shift in behavior between versions? Comment from Victoria Wu(@victoria_wu): @andres_vlaeminck  It s interesting to hear that you found the 3.5 version to be more proactive in offering alternative

How to deal with directional comments from competitors?
... Here's the situation: our extension product has been listed on the Chrome Web Store, a platform where developers cannot reply to or delete comments. A competitor seems to be leaving one-star reviews, claiming that a certain product (of course it's their product) is much better than JobJump. I d like to know how you all would handle this kind of issue. Comment from Christopher Gjelten(@gjeltenc): Leave one-star reviews on their extension Comment from Nika(@busmark ...

Golden Kitty Awards - Best developer tools launched in 2024?
... approaching the long-awaited Golden Kitty Awards, I'm dropping here some of my favorite developer tools launched on Product Hunt in 2024: Supabase - the open-source Firebase alternative went GA last April and had a *stellar* launch: #1 Product of the Day, #1 Product of the Week, #1 Product of the Month! bolt.new - last year, Vercel's v0.dev was nominee, and I predict the alternative
