Thanks a lot @benln for hunting us! 🫡 TL;DR, watch a live demo here: 📼 https://app.tape.ooo/taperlabs/s... Hey Product Hunt! I'm Jay. I'm building 📼 Tape with the conviction that it is the missing piece in modern workplace communication. 📼 Tape is an online space where teams can get things done using asynchronous video. From sharing work with clarity, exchanging thoughtful feedback, and getting work done - you can do it all with Tape’s simple and intuitive interactive features designed for collaboration. 🤫 Synchronous communication, which was established when everyone worked in the same place at the same time, simply isn’t answer for all anymore. In fact, it’s always been pretty overrated. While it's great for spontaneous discussions, taking a moment to think, research, and respond thoughtfully is more beneficial in many more cases. Since our initial launch, we have talked to and learned from many users in the Product Hunt community. Thank you all for your support. 🙏🏻 Without it, we wouldn't have been able to make as much progress with Tape. One key improvement was in the area of "interactions." Our early supporters wanted to do more than just share recorded videos, but existing tools like Loom lacked the necessary collaboration and interactive features. We rapidly experimented with new features, and now our users are utilizing Tape on a daily basis to replace an increasing number of meeting types. 💪 Examples of Tape’s interactive features include: 📼 Video replies 💬 On-video comment & emoji 🖼 Embed anything - Calendly, Figma, Codepen and + 📊 Poll 📜 Notion like text editor Examples of meetings that our users are replacing include: 🎨 Design review : Teams can share their work with clarity and receive insightful feedback 🤔 Complex discussions : The asynchronous nature of Tape allows for more time to fully understand and prepare for conversations. 🧐 Bug reporting : No more “Hey, can you show me how to reproduce the bug?” 🧪 User testing : No need to get all team in the same room ➕ All hands, Internal seminar, and more Now it's your turn! A quick tip: Utilize the framework(in the gallery) that I created after speaking with hundreds of individuals to determine which meetings can be replaced by Tape.

@benln @jaythesong I cannot tell you how much I love these async work approaches. I often work in corporate settings where meetings are helt all the time. Having an easy async work tool often makes things way easier. I would be interested how you differentiate from others in the space?

@benln @jaythesong Congratulations on the launch! great product for distributed teams and client communication (my primary use case).
Jay Song
@markus_sigel Hey Markus, thank you for your comment! Good question. Tape's interactive features, tailored for video, make all the difference. With other tools like Loom, when you try to do more than just share information, it can be awful as you always have to go like "Hey, can we make a change on the part showing second from the top right at the video you sent from 02:35?" But with Tape, you can just write a comment right on the video! And there are a lot more features that you can enjoy to actually "Get work done".
Jay Song
@swapdp_01 Thanks, Swapnil! Yeah, our users love using Tape when they talk to their clients. What they are saying is that it saves a lot of time as they can have more thoughtful communication, which reduces unnecessary iterations.

@benln @jaythesong Congratulations on the launch of Tape. I recorded a product intro video within 30s and I love it! There is no doubt that Tape is a powerful helper for me. Good job 🚀

This looks like it's going to be a lifesaver.. After all, don't we come out of 50% of meetings thinking that the meeting would've been sufficiently replaced by an email? I see it as an advanced, interactive and efficient way of messaging! Awesome work, can't wait to introduce this to my team :)
Jay Song
@mycelebs_elle Thank you for your comment Elisabeth. Totally, half of meetings or more are unproductive and we already know. Now we all know the workplace has been changed for good and it's the right time to think about how we collaborate! Please try it and let me know what you think.

Congratulations for the launch, as a remote team, we’re trying various tools for async collaboration. I‘m trying out Tape to replace some of our meetings. Keep up the good work, Jay!

@daun_io Hey Daun, thank you for your constant support! Also, I wanted to thank you for creating awesome tools. I can tell you that I used one of your products to create demo images for this launch. 😉
Daun
@jaythesong Oh wow Thanks for using ours :) I have one question! does Tape plan to make a desktop app or browser extension ever? You mentioned being able to be used without anything to install as a feature, and I think it's great too. Still, sometimes I think people find it comfy when using browser extensions or desktop apps so they can capture contexts to talk at any moment like Loom does. I was surprised when I was using the Loom browser extension because it really understood the context of my workflow for example the icon showed up when I was writing a pull request reviews on GitHub, etc.
Jay Song
@daun_io Hey Daun, that's a great point. Lowering the barriers for new users is important and it has worked out quite well for Tape. However, once they become active users, they want a quicker and more accessible entry point, just like you pointed out. That's why we've been already building a Chrome extension 😉 You will probably see it here soon enough and a desktop app will be the next! At the beginning, it will be similar to Loom, but we will quickly add some exciting features that can add value for users who want to do more with videos than just sharing information.
Daun
@jaythesong Oh really! I think Tape is only getting better in every dimension so far from the initial launch. Thanks for kindly replying to my comment.
Phoenix J
@daun_io Thank you Daun for taking the time to send us such a positive message! It's always great to hear from people who share our vision for a more collaborative and productive work environment.

I think the ease of use and intuitiveness is the biggest selling point, especially for teams that need to collaborate while sharing video. It would be great to use it to collaborate with external parties as well.

Firstly I could start using Tape without anything to install and while I think that's a great feature, Still, sometimes I think people find it comfy when using browser extensions or desktop apps so they can capture contexts to talk at any moment like Loom does. I was surprised when I was using the Loom browser extension because it really understood the context of my workflow for example the icon showed up when I was writing pull request reviews on GitHub, etc. Secondly, the founder Jay and their team are passionate and supportive of users. At this moment including product hunt promotion it's also a really cost-effective solution for async video software.
