I’m super excited (and very nervous) to share something I’ve been building in my free time and will be my first solo product launch of any kind — a tool to help people understand Japanese more naturally and deeply.
I built this because I’ve always struggled with things like:
〇 "How do I say 3:45 PM in Japanese?"
〇 "What counter do I need to use for shopping bags?"
〇 "Why is this sentence structured like this?"
And when my girlfriend (a linguist) and I started digging into grammar more seriously, we wanted tools that not only gave answers, but explained why. So this app was born.
💡 What it does:
Converters: Instantly turn numbers, times, dates, durations and counters into Japanese (with romaji, kana, and kanji) — perfect for daily practice or quick lookups.
Natural Translate: Write in English and get a natural Japanese equivalent, with insight into how it's typically phrased and distinctions between appropriate contexts to use it in.
Grammar Analyzer: Paste a full Japanese sentence and see how each part connects — with explanations on formality, nuance, and grammar points.

This looks super interesting! I’ve tried picking up Japanese a few times but always ended up giving up 😅. Traveling in Japan can be a bit of a struggle because of that, so I’d definitely love to give this a try. Any chance you’re planning a mobile app? Would be way more convenient for daily use on the go!

I've also struggled a lot with sticking with it and realized the reason I quit so many times was these small but frustrating things I couldn't get clear answers or explanations for, namely grammar and how natural Japanese should sound vs what you learn in a book.
A mobile app is definitely in the plans for the future, more long term for now. Short term I really want to focus on building out more features. I also haven't really done any proper mobile development yet so porting it would take a while especially with learning as I go. I want to build out a rounded suite of tools I'm happy with before launching mobile!
