Engly is a voice and text AI chatbot that helps you learn and practice English language whenever and wherever it's convenient (like Busuu or HelloTalk but with AI instead of real tutors). You can pick a pre-defined topic for discussion or have a small talk.
📜 STORY
I noticed problems of anxiety and inconvenience when my daughter started learning English with a tutor. She was performing very well, but when it came to speaking with someone when we were in Europe she stumbled and was very shy.
I spoke with her tutor and she confirmed that practice is the key to eliminating fear (so this is more of a chicken/egg problem you fear cause you lack practice and you lack practice because of fear). And that many of her current students are really anxious to start talking.
🤯 PROBLEM
So here are three main problems we validated with students after the initial idea:
1️⃣ Anxiety - Users are anxious about lack of practice and afraid to seem silly in a real-life conversation (even with tutors - whom they pay money to practice - true story)
2️⃣ Inconvenience - Users have to schedule all the calls with real tutors in advance and need a certain setup and environment for the lesson.
3️⃣ Costs - Current solutions for practicing English are quite expensive since they rely on real people
😎 SOLUTION:
We hope that our product can solve those problems "by design", since you will be talking with an AI
By design of an AI
1️⃣ Bot won't judge you in any case
2️⃣ No need to pick a tutor, a date, a time - AI is at your disposal whenever you are ready
3️⃣ No need for human tutors that are costly
@smfed Sounds like a great product and a great motivation for it! I would love to know more about how you trained the chatbot, especially for the talking :)
@bianca_koerber Thanks for you response and question!
There is a number of layers which process data and form the response. On one layer we have gpt3 engine with custom rules, on another special nlp processors for additional filtering and transforming. Every bots phrase is a result of complex system of filters.
As for the talking it is not available in private beta yet, but Text2Speech and Speech2Text is a well researched topic and is a commodity already.
We are at the beginning of our journey at the moment and have a huge backlog and list of problems we have to solve, but I firmly believe that we can do it!
For now we are in private beta stage and I invite you to participate in private beta and provide us with feedback! Thanks!
