Introducing Doc Genie: Seamlessly Share Kindle Scribe Notebooks Everywhere. Unlock the full potential of your Kindle Scribe notebooks with Doc Genie, the ultimate solution for effortlessly sharing your notes across multiple platforms.
The missing feature from your kindle scribe is here, share your notebooks to google drive, one drive, dropbox, mega and box cloud storage for free with a dedicated sharing email address.
HI fellow hunters,
So this is a very specific problem I had when I got my Kindle Scribe. as we know the Kindle Scribe doesn't have any way to share notebooks to google drive, dropbox or others, natively just an email share link.
I love using it for notes, it's been amazing, but sharing my notebooks to my online storage was messy, email myself, download the file, open the storage app, and wait to upload it, it doesn't seem like much but it was getting to be a headache when I was doing it a couple of times day. and sharing my notebooks to my colleagues meant either sending them the pdf directly (and not being able to manage permission) or going through the whole email, download, and upload process again.
So I built Doc Genie as my own personal gateway between the Kindle Scribe & Google Drive. it worked really well so I decided to allow other people to use it as well.
I have added Dropbox and coming shortly is OneDrive, Mega and Box cloud storage as per other users suggestions.
its free to use for 1 notebook a week or you can purchase a subscription for £2.99 a month/£19.99 a year - I use paid services so this covers the cost of servers, apis, etc and also allows me to spend more time on it to add more features.
its really simple to use, simply register for free and claim your unique email address to send to, paid users can also customise this as well. connect your cloud storage and then share your notes via the kindles native share feature to the share email from Doc Genie and in less than 30 seconds, your note book is stored securely in your chosen provider(s).
in the future I plan to add more features such as document formatting (pdf to word, etc) and a feature to set rules so the file can be stored in a specific folder or shared with a specific person.
I hope you Kindle Scribe users find it useful and I would really like to hear your feedback or feature suggestions.
Thanks all
Congrats on the launch! curious to know what API or method does DocGenie use to transfer notebooks from email to cloud storage so quickly? Also, can we choose which specific folder to save notebooks to in Google Drive or Dropbox?
@sarvpriy_arya Hi, thanks for being part of our launch.
I use native apis to connect to the relevant services bu the bulk of the work is done server side. I have created a system that allows for fast uploads, partly due to the file size of the notebooks being pretty small as well as some well optimised code to handle the contents as less as possible, nothing is stored server side, its just a go between.
im adding onedrive today hopefully so that will be nice addition.
in regards to specific folders, not yet.
I am looking at ways to allow for this while taking security and privacy in mind, For example, dropbox allows full dropbox read/write but that seems overkill and a privacy concern so I used the app folder scope so all we can read and write to is the specified Doc Genie folder, this will be the same for one drive too.
Google drive is more open and I am looking at ways to allow specified folders, either by adding rules to the shared email or by allowing the + prefix on the email so you can specify the folder path that way, for example, yourprivateshare+projects-main-n... which would place a file in the projects/main/notes folder.
a lot of this will take time to do which is why I put it out in the world to see what features are needed and hopefully, a little bit of funding to assist with further development.
if you have any other questions or feedback then I would love to hear it and if you did find Doc Genie useful, a review would be an amazing addition
@bozzmob hey, thanks for message, yeah it's something I wanted for myself so thought I'd share it.
I hope it helps your work flow Satvik.
If you have any ideas for features then I would love to hear them, like I said I built for myself and my needs were pretty simple but you may need something else to make it work for you and your personal work flow.
