I'm super excited to share something that the Nest team has been working extremely hard on for the past couple of months: The Nest Developer Program. To kick it off, we are featuring some of the amazing partnerships we have formed - including: Mercedes, Jawbone, Whirlpool, IFTTT, LifX, etc.

@blakeir Hey Blake! Can you describe some of the biggest implications of this program - why's it so groundbreaking?

This is HUGE. An API for home automation actions is one of the best ideas I've heard in a long time. Kudos!

I think the IFTTT integration will unlock a lot of really cool use cases! Smart move Google!

Hell yes. Kind of sucks that the Apple's HomeKit will not allow integration with Nest.

@EAWharton it's up to the market. HomeKit supports Bridges for interacting with non-HomeKit devices. I can see companies releasing HomeKit Bridge hardware for interacting with devices like Nest, Philips lightbulbs, etc.

Downloading the LIFX update right now (apparently the bulb needs a firmware update and it could take hours o.O ) and will report back on the cool new features! Update: Connected my LIFX with my Nest, process was pretty simple. Unfortunately can't really see the new features in action on demand so... I'll just trust that they work and it's cool :)

Hard to say whether I'm more impressed by the API itself or this incredible marketing video. Makes me want to change career paths and build hardware just so I can works with nest.

@jaltma I agree. It's an absolutely amazing video! After watching the video, I wanted to drop what I was doing and go work there.
