I think this question does not have a right answer. I would rephase it to "Front-end or back-end development?" Because I think, this is the point that you want to emphasis.

It depends on what you want to do and what the product will be.

Java for complicated backend (strict typing is incredible) JavaScript for early projects, faster to production
