Is starting a new social media website or platform relevant?

I'm just curious for those people or someone who wants to start their own social networking platform or app. Is it still relevant or too late to start a social media platform? Are there any chances to beat the giants like Facebook or Twitter?

I think the chances you have to compete with large corporations as Facebook or Twitter are very low. But it's not about the competition, is about the product. If you're able to offer better quality or you're focused on a new niche, you will succeed. Those companies are so big, they can't even change a lot in a short time, you can.

There's much room for innovation! I won't say more about this since I do plan a new platform, but are the shortcomings of the current giants not obvious? Threads was not successful because it had zero innovation.

There might be space for very niche platforms catering to a particular community, but launching a one-serve-all giant like FB or Twitter will be super challenging - even Threads struggle to gain engaged audience, and that's with all Meta's resources Same with BlueSky and Mastodon,

If it's niche enough potentially i.e social media for fishermen. All these platforms are gigantic and normally what ends up happening is people find their people or content and stick to that.
