Do you think using hashtags on social media posts works to increase the reach of content?

I've been using hashtags on different platforms, and here's what I've observed: Twitter: Trending hashtags are popular, but for my niche, they're overcrowded and don't help with views or engagement. LinkedIn: Some hashtags seem to work, but not always for increasing post reach. Facebook and Instagram: Some hashtags work here. YouTube: Including the right hashtags is great for this platform; they really work for both shorts and long videos.

I think they are no longer effective.

@german_arrowoods I'm curious to hear your thoughts on why not?

Hey @rupal_saini! 😄 Thanks for sharing your observations on hashtags across different platforms! It's so interesting how the effectiveness varies depending on where you post. I’ve also noticed that on Instagram and YouTube, using niche-specific hashtags can really boost visibility. It’s a bit of a hashtag jungle out there, but discovering what works best for each platform can be quite rewarding. Keep experimenting and sharing your insights! 🚀✨

Hashtags can definitely boost the no of people to see my post

@jacob_henry2 @armand_brouillard1 that's a great point - like anything it depends on how you use it to make it effective. I think they work great to help people FIND content. But it's not going to automatically create traffic where there is none. You're tapping into a potential traffic stream and increasing the chances someone can reach you.

Great insights, Rupal! 🎯 I've noticed similar trends with hashtags: on Twitter, they're often too crowded to help much in niche areas; LinkedIn's effectiveness varies; Facebook and Instagram can be hit or miss, but generally work; and YouTube hashtags are definitely effective for boosting both shorts and long videos.

I think they do especially if you have a community/page that has enough users and you post regularly.

Think of hashtags as labels on library shelves, not megaphones. They won't shout your content to everyone, but they'll help people specifically looking for that topic easily find your work.

I’m posting content on a test account on Instagram before posting on the real one. What I noticed is that a few people come to see and even engage with the test posts, presumably finding them from hashtags. But that’s not 100% certain)) Niche hashtags like #buildinginpublic worked for me on X.

@daria_ofitserova That's actually a great way to experiment to answer this question - accounts with no other marketing or traffic aside from hashtag generation.

Makes sense! Hashtag research is key depending on the platform.

Probably the only way hashtags will help you is to appear in trending topics is to make social content that links your product from that specific trending topic. If your job is to make pizza, and trending is #ai, post a pizza image generated by AI, and you will use the #AI hashtag As an example, you have a project management tool that you want to sell and the trending topic is #security. Initially there is no link, but you can use that topic to drive traffic to your product, how? "X discovered Y bug that raises security concerns in the tech world, security should be the main concern for all the companies, in our case at Z, we ensure that our infrastructure is closed from external eyes". Ofc this is just an example, but you get the point. The idea is to convert other topics to you topic. I'm not an expert in this field, but at the same time I've seen this strategy kinda working on socials, especially funny content. Hope this will help

Sure relevent hashtags make a post pop up

Well if you have a new account and very little followers, how are people going to see and engage with your content unless you are using hashtags? I am genuinely asking... as I am in this boat 🤣 and I don't really use social media until recently.

Not sure. We've posted videos on Tiktok and Youtube, both with hashtags, but haven't noticed any significant difference in performance.

Niche KWs are probably the best to use to help your content get discovered On Twitter, hashtags are generally frowned upon unless they target a popular trend On linkedIn, they do seem to work and help associate your account with a particular niche

Yes! Some hashtags are usually familiar inside specific communities. For example, by using #buildinpublic and #indiehackers your post will probably be seen by entrepreneurs and SaaS founders

Person 1: I think using hashtags definitely helps. They categorize content, making it easier for people interested in specific topics to find your posts. It's like organizing your content into searchable folders. Person 2: Exactly! Especially for educational platforms like Uncodemy Learning Institute, strategic hashtag use can attract students and educators searching for relevant content.

Absolutely, hashtags can significantly boost content reach, especially on platforms like Instagram and YouTube where they are widely utilized and highly effective. While I've noticed mixed results on Twitter and LinkedIn due to niche saturation and inconsistent performance, strategic hashtag use on Facebook and Instagram has also shown positive outcomes. Overall, the key is to find the right hashtags that resonate with your target audience on each platform.

As a YouTuber, yes. YouTube will promote your video in the 'similar video' section based on the hashtags.
Mileva
Yes, of course, hashtags play an important role in achieving good reach.

I agree, #tags can be effective but it depends on the platform. Twitter X can be tough but niche hashtags might help. IG and FB see more engagement with them.

Effective in YouTube, someitmes on LinkedIn, but, not on X.
