Yes, I've heard many creators say that they experiment with different thumbnails and titles too, I think many creators use thumbnails as a sort of a "second title", and in my experience, I'll read the text on the thumbnail before the actual title

As a regular viewer, I don’t mind if the image is still readable and looks clear. I'll keep watching the video. However, it's a different case when it comes to more advanced content like cinematic videos or film trailers. I appreciate it when the thumbnail has great quality.
So up until February, I worked at Linus Tech Tips in their lab as a subject matter expert. I wasn't directly connected to editing, but I picked up quite a bit while I was there.
Thumbnails absolutely will impact a video's views. Major youtubers have multiple people in charge of designing their thumbnails, and there's a lot of analytics behind the current trends that we see as viewers.
@udaya_sri generative AI to me is a strange situation. I have a lot of friends that work in the games industry as artists, so to see artists work used without attribution upsets me. That being said, progress is a fickle beast, and industries are regularly displaced throughout history.
I think that if you've trained your GAN on content and you've licensed it fairly, then it's fair game, but since there's a lot of work that goes into designing the right thumbnail I don't know if we're there yet with prompt engineering vs actual human design.
