Are we overcomplicating everything with AI?

by

I cannot help but notice that 3/4 products launched have AI in the description. AI is amazing, but is it really always necessary? For example in my niche, Health & Fitness, most apps try to use as many data points as possible and use AI to give you the “optimal workouts”. That sounds good on paper, but actually I think most people would benefit more from a simple structure that is easy to follow and understand. Overcomplicating metrics such as recovery scores might do more damage than good, noceboing you into feeling like you are tired and can’t hit your workout that day. In truth, most people are not professional athletes and do not need to have the most optimal workout plan (their daily tasks do not allow it anyway. Also pros rely on subjective metrics much more than we usually realise). I think sometimes simpler is better. But I want to hear from you. Do you think we are overusing AI to the detriment of our products sometimes?

Great question, David! AI should solve real problems, not just add complexity. In legal tech, we use AI to simplify workflows and save time—not overcomplicate. The key is balance: using AI where it truly enhances the user experience. Curious to hear others' thoughts!

I feel the same. It seems like everything nowadays can be made AI-driven. For example, there’s even a dedicated AI product that reminds users to drink more water. The idea is innovative, but is it really necessary ?

I somehow agree with you. From my own point view, AI hype right now feels similar the dot-com boom in the 90s

@mohamed_zakarya yes. There are many amazing applications of the new LLMs but I don’t think “throw AI at it” is always the right answer

I totally agree. It seems like AI is being used in so many areas, perhaps even somewhat obligatorily.

I can't disagree more. It feels like everything run around AI, and people want AI in everything, but in fact, I, myself like to do the basic first before leveling up.

@movitalis_david_manda Totally agree that people overused AI in everything we do now. :D

I have found one application last month showing the conclusion of prompts should be more human and optimise that will help you to save time for another prompt or another GPTs for better results, i will surely share that one in my long list of stacked products.
