Maybe Dark-mode? So I can use producthunt past bedtime as well 😸

@sentry_co you mean Dark Mode on desktop?
André J
@chrismessina For all devices. Desktop is less important for me personally, because chrome has plugins that solve that. But native dark-mode always beats plugins IMO. Would be really slick to have native darkmode for iOS, iPhone / iPad. There are plugins for that too, but not accessible for most people.

@sentry_co hmm, but Product Hunt has a dark mode on iOS, no?
André J
@chrismessina For the app yes. I would suspect more people use the website. Esp if your new.

@sentry_co to second what Chris Messina said, we do have dark mode on ios. Did you see the Golden Kitty's leaderboard theme? That was an early attempt at dark mode. To be honest we don't feel we have the bandwidth to do it properly at the moment but it's something we might revisit in the future. It did look pretty good, in my opinion. Another hesitation with dark mode is that Product Hunt is a platform where new startups showcase their product and brand. It's harder to think through brand presentation if your viewers are in either dark or light mode. Sticking with one mode for the majority of surfaces makes thinking through brand design easier.

A fully functional API that's compatible with ActivityPub.

@chrismessina what would you like to do with it?
Mat Sherman
@chrismessina @rajiv_ayyangar THAT is an interesting idea. Also curious, what would you do with it?

I am greedy. I need multiple wishes :P Features Related to Product Hunt User Profile: Coin-Based Engagement System: Introduce a "Kitty Coin" system where users unlock levels and voting weightage based on their engagement. Levels and Voting Weightage: - 0 Coins: Can only comment; must meaningfully engage with the community to unlock voting rights. - 10-100 Coins (Bronze): 1 vote weightage. - 500 Coins (Silver): 2 vote weightage. - 1,000 Coins (Gold): 3 vote weightage. - 10,000 Coins (Platinum): 4 vote weightage. - 1,00,000 Coins (Diamond): 5 vote weightage. - Daily Streak Rewards: Reward users with coins for maintaining streaks (e.g., 1 coin per daily login). - Networking: Add a Direct Messaging (DM) and Email Features. Enable users to DM others for networking or collaboration purposes. Add an optional PH email feature similar to Reddit's DM or email system. Features Related to Forums: - Power User-Run Product Forums: Grant access to product forums for power users or makers, letting them manage and engage communities around specific products. Ensure forums are user-driven, similar to Reddit-style moderation. - Leaderboard for Forums: Introduce leaderboards for forums as well to encourage active participation and reward top contributors. Features Related to Product Launches: - Analytics for Makers: Provide makers with detailed analytics about their product's audience engagement. Show user demographics such as founders, developers, or designers engaging with the product, similar to LinkedIn analytics. Include data on views and audience behavior for better insights. Maybe stats like how many people clicked the "Visit" button. - Image/Video Content on Product Hubs: Expand Product Hubs to allow image or video content posts, similar to LinkedIn Company page, to enhance storytelling and engagement. Most Makers leave the platform after their launch. This will encourage them to keep coming back and keep their product followers updated. - Product Finder Assistant / Chatbot: PH users can share their use case or feature list and the chatbot suggests products based on the requirements. - Improved Bookmarks: Currently we can only bookmark product launch posts, maybe adding threads and comment bookmarks would be useful too. Sub-Products of Product Hunt: - Alternative to Crunchbase: Build a Crunchbase alternative within Product Hunt for founders to discover investment opportunities, hiring talent and partnerships. - Alternative to Built With: Create a BuiltWith alternative within Product Hunt using Shoutouts data. - Alternative to Bumble Bizz: Create a subscription-based "Bumble-style" networking platform where users can match with people based on their product interests, roles, or projects. - Alternative to Flippa: Makers can acquire or sell products / projects. Bring Back Old PH Features: Product Hunt Rewind: Reintroduce the "Product Hunt Rewind" feature to showcase the users' milestones from the past year (kitty coins earned, longest streak, total upvotes given, total upvotes received, total products launched, time spent on the site, etc.) TikTok-style vertical videos: Video content under Product Hubs and Forums only. Or maybe 24 hours stories on user profiles.

@rohanrecommends wow! I love the list! @rajiv_ayyangar what about hiring Rohan to the team lol?
Mat Sherman

I always thought it would be interesting to build a Crunchbase/Pitchbook competitor by using Product Hunt data.

Rohan Chaubey
@mat_sherman PH can be BuiltWith competitor too :)

A tool to find dead products & shift product hunt into an acquisition market as well. Buy and sell companies... etc.
Hussein
@isaac_levy3 That would be interesting
Mike Kerzhner
@kate_ramakaieva thanks for the feedback! What issues are you seeing?
Kate Ramakaieva
@mikekerzhner last week I couldn't upvote from app, the week before I couldn't acess the main page - I heard such issue occured with other iOS app users as well, now works well 🤞

@mikekerzhner here's another wish: to be able to paste a Product Hunt link into a comment box and have it automagically be turned into a link to the product launch! So if I pasted: https://www.producthunt.com/prod... ...it would magically turn into: North

What Product Hunt Needs: Curated Lists by Category As a user, I’m not interested in developer tools—I care about marketing innovation. Why can’t I get a list that only includes marketing-related products? The same goes for creators. If your product is built for developers, why should it be shown to a marketing audience? That’s ineffective. With 150+ launches per day, Product Hunt should offer multiple curated lists tailored to different audiences. This would make discovery more relevant and valuable for everyone.
