Judging engagement vs. followers is super important. You're much better off with someone who has an engaged following vs someone with tons of inactive followers.
In other words, someone with 2000 Instagram followers who take action is significantly more valuable than someone with a following of 200K who never buy, comment, signal boost or interact at all. This applies to any platform, really... a small, niche YouTube channel with an active community can outperform a large channel with an inactive audience.

A short overview - it's a good way to scale audience, but you need to clear understand which customers you need. And, of course, you have to qualify an influencer before starting work with them.

My suggestion is this: in the early stages of your project, don't rush to find influencers to promote your product because, in the initial phases, it's highly likely that your product isn't "perfect" and needs more genuine assistance in identifying your user profile and achieving Product Market Fit (PMF). Therefore, consider spending some time in the market (such as on LinkedIn or within the startup community) conducting one-on-one product interviews and gathering feedback. Once you've collected feedback from users and have a clearer direction for product iteration and your target audience, then you can think about engaging influencers who align with your product for marketing purposes.

I think the most important thing when starting in influencer marketing is not to opt for big influencers but to go more towards micro-influencers who have a specific niche that adapts to your product, which will give you greater chances of achieving virality.
