Niche or Broad: What’s Your Move?

When we were building our AI search product, my team kept running into the same question: Should we go super niche and focus on a small, specific audience, or try to appeal to as many people as possible? It’s tricky, right? 🤣 Going niche feels like you’re building something meaningful for people who really need it, but then you wonder… are we missing out on a bigger audience? On the flip side, going broad sounds exciting, but it’s also a bit like playing darts in the dark. Curious how you all approach this. Do you stick with a niche or aim for the masses? And how’s it worked out for you?

I think it mainly depends on your business type or the resources you have.

Depends on your goals really. If you've got a solid niche with not much competition, go niche all the way and dominate that space. But if you're in a crowded market or want to reach a wider audience, keep it broad to capture more potential customers. Just make sure you've got the resources to execute well on whichever path you choose.

I think as more independent developers rise, more would prefer focusing on a niche audience, which offers the advantage of specialization and loyalty. Niche products often address specific, underserved needs, allowing companies to build deeper connections and flexible to detour when things don't work out.
