Both Instagram reels and Youtube shorts will try to up their game, both services are pretty good for founders, especially Youtube shorts. They will have even better tools for creators for analytics and monetization.

Instagram is definitely trying to level up and encourage more users to start using the app more to create content not just consume. One thing that caught my attention was the simplicity of the editor- clearing making users drop the excuse of not being able to edit content on their own. It would be interesting to see metrics of the rate of increase of the number of content creators on the platform and the usage of the editor to actually edit videos. TikTok has been under the radar for sometime now but we can’t ignore the fact that TikTok changed the content creation industry game - for good or for bad, these platforms need to follow the safe data use guidelines for everyone’s good. Would be very interesting what comes next post removal of the ban.

Honestly, it seems like Meta/Instagram is doing its best to capitalize on the TikTok ban. First they changed the square grid, then they introduced the friends reel tab. And now, Edits.

IG has been planning to up their game in terms of editing process for a while now as a lot of creators are huge fans of capcut and its ease of use; imo the timing of the launch was a bit awkward given that they announced it the day tikok had its hiccup on the us market. As a creator and user, I am enjoying the latest progress of instagram and I’m looking forward to new releases this year, however I would like them to come up with something unique and leverage the community aspect more, now it seems like all these apps are copying each other
