Hunters on PH: Their role, prices and some basics

More and more I see questions about Product Hunt Hunters so I would cover this topic like a small FAQ. 1. Who is PH Hunter? Someone active or well-known on the platform, popular, recognized, and has a high follower count or a significant number of launched products. But even a maker can hunt the product if decides or someone else. 2. What is the Hunter responsible for? He/She "promotes" your product on his/her behalf, so his/her followers are notified (on PH and via email) that he/she launched the certain product. Whether the Hunter helps you to gain engagement via his/her community on social media/DMs is up to mutual agreement. 3. How to find a Hunter? 1. You can try to reach out to the most popular people on the platform (high follower count, high hunted products count, active people via PH streak). 2. Through a search on Google (they may have their websites). 3. From previous launches where they are labelled as "Hunters". 4. They can have it in their bio. 4. What is the price? It differs. – Some do it for free. – Some charge for giving your product a higher "credibility and their reputation". – Some ask for hourly consultation $400+. – Some hunt for $50 and some for 2k or 4k. 5. Will you be featured thanks to the Hunter in the "Featured" section? The Hunter cannot guarantee this place because Hunters are usually not the part of internal PH team. 6. When to claim the Hunter? I would say, the sooner the better. He/she can advise some good things up front, so the launch and you will be better prepared. That's all. At the moment, I do not hunt product launches (I can only create some awareness through sponsored newsletters or sponsored videos), but I believe you can find many hunters based on the points I mentioned above.

Just want to clarify that Hunters don't need to have a certain number of followers or anything like that. The Hunter is simply the account that posts the launch. So anyone can be a Hunter! And as @shahza1bmushtaq mentioned, quite a lot of featured launches are hunted by the Maker themselves. You can read a bit more in our help center about Hunters & Makers. It also covers how to use our new Hunter Invite system if you do want to have your launch hunted by someone else. Good topic to bring up @busmark_w_nika!

@nickanisimov But there are such profiles. Possibly because they are well-positioned with a high reputation.

The thing is, most startups have no idea who their clients are or how to effectively target them. Product Hunt is actually one of the worst ways to do it. Neither the hunter nor the startup knows if the people following the hunter are the right audience for the startup. Moreover, I built a startup for marketers, and you built one for HR. But when both of us go to Product Hunt, we don’t see recommendations tailored to our industries—we just see generic recommendations for everyone. Product Hunt could solve this issue by focusing more on audience segmentation. If they allowed hunters to create curated lists for specific groups, people would follow hunters that truly resonate with their niche. However, Product Hunt as a platform doesn’t provide that opportunity. Right now, it’s just a mess.

Targeted hunters/categories – this is actually a good point Sergey. Not every hunter is aligned with the idea or has such deep understanding of the specific community. @sergey_glukhov

According to Product Hunt, 79% featured posts were by makers who self-hunted and 60% of #1 Product of the Day winners were self-hunted. Many successful self-hunters/makers shared their experiences in articles and wrote guidebooks about submitting products here.

@shahza1bmushtaq They are a good examples that PH hunters are specific cases so they have chances to succeed without hunters too :)

@busmark_w_nika Yes, and Product Hunt highly recommends makers to become hunters of their own products. This shows them your courage, self-confidence and belief in the idea.

Is there some resource where you can find hunters that hunt product for free? That you know of? 🙌

@benjaminbekken Hunting a product is absolutely free and you should not pay to anyone to hunt your product. It’s against Product Hunt's guidelines.

@abbas143official Oh really i didn't know that, thank you so much for clarifying! It seems like most of the hunters actually take some kind of money to hunt a product, so that was why i was asking

Thanks for sharing! Super helpful! I‘m wondering is there any data or cases showing the difference between having "a famous hunter" and "a regular hunter"? Does it really worth spending 2k-4k for a famous hunter?

In the overview above it states in point 4 that som PH work for free but some charge but in the comments below some have said its against the rules on PH to pay someone. Can anyone clarify if it's ok to pay $50 for 2k to 4k or if you can't. I am new to PH so wanted to make sure we don't do anything wrong during our launch?

@alex_bradley6 Hey Alex, I am going through the guidelines. At the moment, I couldn't catch the information as some texts are fresh new or some are not updated. Please, still have a look at their FAQ, e.g. here: https://help.producthunt.com/en/... https://help.producthunt.com/en/... https://help.producthunt.com/en/... Hey there! Hunters on PH are like guides who help you find rare items or spots. They know the best places and times. Prices vary; some charge per item found, others hourly. It depends on experience. For basics, always agree terms upfront and check reviews. Hope that helps!

Hey there! Hunters on Pocket Hunt (PH) are pretty cool. They help find rare items for players. Prices vary, but usually around 50 to 200 gold depending on skill. New hunters start cheap. Good ones get pricey! You can hire them at towns. Hope that helps!
